UPDATE: NFL reporter Tom Pelissero has news that offensive lineman Kyle Long is believed to have suffered a fractured kneecap and could miss training camp for the K.C. Chiefs.

A source told The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell that the Week 1 timeline is “probably wishful thinking,” but not entirely out of the question yet. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, head coach Andy Reid confirmed that the injury doesn’t appear to have impacted any of Long’s major ligaments, but there’s still a “chance he has to have surgery,” per McDowell.

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially signed their final restricted free agent. According to reporting from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Chiefs fourth-year CB Charvarius Ward has officially signed his restricted free agent contract tender. Ward was tendered at the second-round level this offseason, which means that he’ll earn $3.384 million in 2021 with Kansas City. The Chiefs originally added Ward in 2018 in a trade sending Parker Ehinger to the Dallas Cowboys. It was criticized at the time, but Ward has developed into a solid piece for Kansas City. He was a starter opposite Bashaud Breeland in each of the past two seasons and he’s primed for a breakout during a contract year.
