  1. I trust their decision making with the back 7. Wish we drafted and developed a little better on the Dline.
  2. Seems like Nazeeh Johnson gets overlooked when we talk about our S room. Has all the tools. Is he the next in the now becoming a long line of young players we have developed into good players or is he just good ST player? Veach is doing his best to have all major holes filled before the draft. I know we don't love it but if its true they view Taylor/Niang as the bookends. Omenihu/Danna as the starting DE opposite Karlaftis. We signed some DT's to fill the gap there. Some of these might just be camp bodies but the rooms are at least somewhat full. Gonna be a fun draft. Now watch us draft an OG/LB in the first two rounds in prep for Thuney and Bolton's FA next year lol.
  3. I would say no for this reason. We have a real good chance of winning back to back SB's. I'm not sure we could get much more than a 2nd rounder for him and unlike Hill we don't have a Mahomes on that side of the ball to elevate the rest of the D. Just keep using 3rd day picks finding and developing players like him. Plus I would like to see our D take a step into being a top 10 unit this year. I just want to see what this team can do with a good D.
  4. If that many OT's get drafted in the first round then a guy like Duncan, Mauch, Freeland or Jones is gonna fall to mid or end of 2nd. There is going to be a good player there at 31. I would rather us be super aggressive and trade a lot for a player that we believe will be our LT of the future or a future stud at DE than trade up a few spots to reach for a player that we are worried won't last. If we think Jones is the LT of the future then make the move and get him locked up. The financial security as well as the protection are worth a couple added picks.
  5. We need to get in front of both Buffalo and Cincy. The Bengals have to know that their biggest downfall last year was not being able to protect Burrow. Have to think they have sufficient weapons but need quality OL help. I think our first and 3rd easily move us up 2-3 spots.
  6. I think another issue for us in Cincy is right in front of us and will need a RT. Probably gonna have to move up to grab a RT if that what they want.
  7. 3rd and 7. Shoot 3rd and 4 lol. 3rd and 15 seems probably with Mahomes. Truly makes you realize how far we truly were with Alex Smith and even to some degree those Vermeil teams (Which had that guy leaned into the draft instead of viewing it as a joke we might have won one then). All these teams that perenially make the playoff with an avg qb and good defense aren't much closer to actually winning the SB than mediocre teams who rarely sniff the playoffs. Takes catching lightning in a bottle if you don't have an elite qb. I don't blame franchises for making bold moves any more to acquire one. If you hit its worth it!
  8. I understand that jet and you are correct xen about Wright. I was just implying that if he fell to 20 or close they could move up to grab him. I do not think they should trade the farm to get him though. I saw somewhere that Hendon Hooker might get drafted to half of the first round......Dude is as old as Mahomes or close lol. That is however good for us and pushes another quality player to the back end. At 31 we can find a very good player that will help us and it would be easier to move back up in the 2nd round to grab another falling OT/DE/WR. Gonna be fun for sure.
  9. Exactly. As good as this team is I still get nervous in big games. The past 30 years has left its scars. Its getting easier and easier but there is always that doubt that creeps up before a big playoff game. With a past like ours it sure does make you appreciate the run we are on though. Great times to be a Chiefs fan!
  10. I agree jet. I trust them and am happy we signed him. I was just making the comment in regards to this FA period. The market sort of reset itself on quite a few positions. I seriously doubt he gets even close to that in the open market. I honestly wouldn't be upset if we traded up for Broderick Jones. Keeping Mahomes upright is the most important.
  11. OT, WR, and DE can be the hardest positions to draft especially the latter two. Unfortunately we have needs at all three to some degree. We haven't needed to draft an OT lately and while many feel Niang is the opening day starter at RT, we have had Wright in twice for visits. My guess is keeping Mahomes protected is priority and last year showed we can find some vet wr's after cuts that can provide enough for this O to function at a very high level while the younger guys develop. A guy who tested poorly but whose tape is pretty good is LSU WR Kayshon Boutte. Might be a sneaky good round two WR. I get a little nervous about work out warriors at WR. To your Powell point, from my understanding our playbook is complicated because it requires reading and reacting to the D in real time so regardless if you know what the play calls for you have to be able to read the D properly and then react in the same manner Mahomes does. Being ultra fast doesn't matter if you don't break to the spot he is expecting you too. We saw this time and time again with Hardman. MVS and Moore to some degree but they get somewhat of a pass being their first year. Problem is after round 2 there isn't much in the way of DE talent left so you may be right they need to get that position there or the first and wait until 3rd round for the WR.
  12. I hope we go this route. I really hope we draft Darnell Wright in the first and then come back and grab a guy like Zay or whoever falls in the second and then spend the rest of the draft adding depth to the D.
  13. Linking every player to the Chiefs in the attempt to drive up the price is smart on the agents part. Sucks to be a fan and get your hopes up so frequently, but this comes with the territory of having a historic HC/QB/Team. Glad Veach isn't overpaying anyone else this offseason.
  14. The fact he didn't hire an agent until the middle of summer and when he did hired a guy because of sentimental reasons (which is his right) the agent has no experience with NFL players iirc. For a team that is constantly planning years in advance and needs the bigger pieces to fall into place to organize other areas it had to make the front office frustrated. I've gone back and forth this year on bringing him back or letting him go. He is a known commodity and that has value but we have seen his ceiling and he is what he is. You aren't getting a better player down the road. For that reason I think he found a desperate team much like we were a few years ago to protect their qb and he got a fair contract. This is probably an unpopular opinion but we overpaid for Taylor, but we were in a precarious position and had to. In this market I don't think Taylor was gonna get 20 million from anyone else. The one nice thing is if he stinks on the left side we can move him and have a very good RT albeit expensive one but we have a good player on the roster. Veach has done an amazing job of putting this roster together and he has learned from his mistakes, but his recent hits in the draft are almost all lower positional value positions with the exception of the DBs which feels like we have the staff to develop them and the scouts that know exactly what they are looking for. George was a premium position and looks to at least be solid but he was also a first round pick so the expectations are higher. WR is another premium positions and while I think Moore will be a stud we still don't 100% know. This isn't a bash Veach thread at all, he is one of the best in the NFL. It is however easier to hit on lower positional value positions especially if you draft them high. We have three potential top positional value spots to fill (DE, OT, WR) on this team and I'm curious if Veach can hit another home run this draft and set us up for the next decade in the process. I think he can but it won't be as easy as previous drafts imo.
  15. Yeah the market sucked this year. No reason to lock yourself into a bad contract unless you are injury prone or older. I have a sneaky suspicion that he will be the starter and outsnap Gay by a good bit this year. Hope I'm wrong but losing important snaps to Harris down the stretch isn't a good sign.
  16. Hurt to say you are correct because I think most of us wanted him to become a dominant stud. I think Darius Harris taking Gay's reps should have told us this. Has all the tools but can't put it all together. By this point in your career the chances of all of a sudden turning it around aren't great but contract years have a way of getting the best out of players. Tranquill was definitely a move to push him and insulate the team in the event he doesn't progress. I agree that Veach's first couple drafts he drafted top tier athletic project way to early and the major problem there is by the time they figure it out its usually the last year of their rookie deal so you get no real value and then have to make a decision if you are going to pay for that lone year of production. Those players should be day three picks unless you have a staff that works miracles like our secondary staff and even then we have found a niche for day 3 picks for that group to develop.
  17. Yeah we can find a potential stud in the 3rd-4th this year.
  18. a switch to a 3-4? Maybe just the flexibility to run a 3-4 on occasion. Seems like Veach is always trying to find market efficiencies and maybe this is one of them. We interviewed BJ Thompson and Nolan Smith, both of which do not fit the Spags criteria for DEs. With that said I doubt this is anything more than having versatility because there are been some reasonably priced NT out there we have passed on in FA. What do you think? What would you prefer we do?
  19. Cowart has a chance to make the roster. But yes camp bodies and backfilling prior to the draft.
  20. I 100% agree its a sleeper possibility. Travis Kelce is such a unicorn. Even if we don't draft one in the first I hope draft one in the first 4 rounds. Round 3-4 would provide such great value and some more weapons for 12/13 personnel. Who are your targets in the 1, 2-3, late rounds? Mine would be Luke Musgrave, then Washington/Mayer, then Kuntz/Schoonmaker.
  21. I don't think we even offered him a contract or he would have immediately responded "yes". He knew if he said no that wouldn't look good for him so he hemmed and hawed around the question. My opinion is Mahomes grew tired of him and was ready to move on and Veach/Andy felt the same way. He was talented and helped but he never developed over the course of 4 years. Now maybe that is on our coaching staff but offseason is personal time to get better and we never really saw it. I think Mahomes is comfortable with Kelce and Toney being the two main targets and he's good with MVS and Moore with a full offseason to gel. JMO. Lot of offseason left. There will be some good veterans let go for cash/cap reasons and we won't have to pony up any picks and usually at that point most teams have already filled their holes. What teams are aggressively seeking wr now? Down to just a few and even less after the draft. Most of the teams competing against us are going all in because they have to. Bills, Bengals, Jets (to satisfy Rodgers), San Diego, Miami. All have major cap deal ramifications after this year. The Chargers kicked the can down the road for one more legit shot by redoing Williams, Allen, and Mack. Bengals lost a good bit on D and have to be careful how they structure those contracts because Higgins, Burrows and Chase are coming due fast. Bills aren't any better after loosing some key players and are cap strapped. Their run for DHop is truly desperation (if they get him they will be favorites for a good reason but for just this year). The Jets are signing everyone for Rodgers, hoping to get a good year or two out of him. The Dolphins are banking on an oft injured qb behind a porous Oline and loading up on a D that couldn't stop anyone last year with a diva. We might not win it all this year but we are set up beautifully for the next 5-6 years. One more good draft and we are put ourselves on a legendary historic run. I'll trust the process and Mahomes.
  22. To me it looks like there is missing a comma between the Chiefs and Ravens. I read it as the Chiefs are interested if the price is right and the Ravens are not among the bidders. I could be read both are not among bidders. Interesting indeed.
  23. Not a team player? Dude risked further injury to lace it up in the conference championship game. Went in made a big play and got hurt which has affected his FA value. He had a ton of value just never developed into the wr he hoped he would. We missed him when he was out. T
  24. He is owed 34.5 million for two years. We add on two fake years so we can give him a 20 million dollar signing bonus up front to spread out over 4 years. Now we only owe him 14.5 million. Pay him 6-7 this year and the remainder (7.5-8.5) in 2024. Then you cut him and we have 5 million dead cap in 2025 and 2026. You need the two dummy/fake/add on years to spread the signing bonus. Just one example of manipulating the cap. We can do that because we have an owner with deep pockets.
