  1. I agree with xen. You can get creative with what is owed him and giving a bonus of 20 million up front only kicks 5 million of dead cap to 2025 and 2026 assuming you don't resign him or extend him. He could hold out for an extension but he doesn't have any leverage and with the wr market this offeason 19 million at his age doesn't look that bad. Plus he would be playing for a contender. Thought he made expressed that on the Pat Mc show. Plus, we can afford a veteran or two on this very young overall team. Kelce is not getting younger. He mentioned in after the SB. He has literally played almost 6 seasons in the last 5 years when you count all the playoff games he has played. He needs some help. Just because we won last year with the wr corp we had doesn't mean that is the best way to win. Toney is uber talented but fragile until proven otherwise. Moore shows a few flashes but mentally he has a long way to go to be counted on to carry the load. DHop forces other teams to game plan for him and with him and Kelce taking pressue away it gives Toney, Moore, etc better opportunities to develop and thrive. OBJ is another options and right now Veach is playing hard ball and allowing all these other teams to burn their money and fill their holes all the while reducing the price of DHop or OBJ. Time will tell but I trust Veach.
  2. I wonder if his injury is more concerning that most of us know. That contract doesn't look bad but it could also be an acknowledgment that for all his talent he never developed the way we hoped he would. At this point they obviously have a plan and Mecole wasn't a part of it.
  3. I got no issues with Watson being the #5. Battling with Justyn Ross and the rest of the wrs fighting for a spot. He knows the system and I like going into the draft being able to go bpa.
  4. We are fixated on it because its not an easy switch. I'm a huge Alabama fan and love the kid but you have no idea if he can make that switch. I haven't seen Deebo's name on this board in a while or on any Chiefs wish list. Converting a career rb to wr doesn't happen over night and the SF offense is vastly different than ours. A converted RB could far more easily assimilate into that offense in that role at that cost than in our O. If you are using Tyreek as the example for us remember it took years before he was a top tier wr. We don't have the luxury to wait that long and the chances he turns into the next Tyreek is also minimal. Toney may be able to take over Juju's role but they are vastly different players. Sky isn't as fast as Hardman and struggled when asked to do the jet sweeps. Gibbs is a very talented player but that seems illogical to try such a thing with our first round pick when we need a starting caliber DE, OT, and WR first. Also that is the kind of pick you make in the middle of the draft. I like the mental exercise in contemplating such a decision but think it would a monumental mistake.
  5. At some point we are going to have to keep drafting wr because signing these vets to one year deals doesn't solve the long term problem. I agree we need to sign a vet this offseason and still draft a wr high. Then going into 2024 we have Toney, Moore, Rookie that have been in the system at least one year and it won't be such a necessity. Also Kelce isn't getting younger so we need to add more than just a talented vet to the team this offseason. We need to be considering how we can take some off his plate moving forward. I don't think Gray and Forston are the long term solutions there either. A day 3 TE might be in the cards. 1 FA WR, 1 Rookie WR, 1 Rookie TE would be a good start.
  6. I think we are still one more draft away from having the luxury to go get a player like Jones. We have some key players coming up for extensions and FA. Can't keep them all. I don't think we have enough wr depth or DL depth to trade most of this draft to pick up one tackle. I think we signed Jawaan Taylor to avoid this scenario. I would rather have Darnell Wright and Cedric Tillman or some combo of DE/WR DE/OT or OT/Wr plus that 1st next year than Broderick Jones.
  7. He is 30. But I agree with your sentiment.
  8. True, but it cuts both ways. OBJ got beat a good beat quickly last year and avoided the sack because of Mahomes. Burrow is pretty sneaky back there but what happens to a pocket passer when the LT gets beat quickly? Time will tell. I think he is an upgrade over Williams though so they are better overall. Lets be honest that O is scary if their Oline is better. Will be interesting with the Mixon ordeal and losing Perine, Jonah wanting out, Hurts gone, and losing their two starting safeties. They can attempt to bandaid it up front with one year deals but basically they better win it all this year because Burrow will be extension eligible after this year, Higgins will be due and Chase is looming.
  9. In your previous post I agree that getting Gaines would be awesome. I think they have to find a wr that can be a legit #2 if needed in FA as well. Can Guyton or Callaway be that if needed? I do like your approach. Find guys who have had success and maybe a down year and get them in cheap and let Mahomes raise their ceiling. I hope they continue to backfill the roster leading up to the draft as to give Veach full BPA ability. What position group would you be most nervous about in this draft? I think it's wr for me. I could us moving up for a DE or OT but overall its a weaker wr class. If they truly believe Taylor is an answer at LT then a guy like Darnell Wright at the end of the first makes a ton of sense and he has the tools to possibly play LT if needed. My draft crush is Nolan Smith at DE but I think he is long gone by 31. Big Bama fan and love Gibbs but we cannot add another rb in the first. How is Gibbs gonna get 700 yards receiving when we never even threw it to CEH (which was the reason many believed we drafted him). Mahomes doesn't love to check it down so I see that being difficult to do. I also think that takes away touches from Pacheco which reduces the value of having a talented 7th round pick starting, but you are right we need another talented back but maybe not in the first. If we had a different coach that was more balanced then I would be all for it because adding a JC lite running back to this O would be silly ridiculous. Also disagree about the TE postion. None of the guys we have behind Travis are future #1 TE material. Gray is good and very useful but he will never be the #1 option imo. Fortson is talented but getting older and he honestly didn't do much last year. I think we keep 4 TE's this year which allows for one more on the roster.
  10. With Tranquill being a nice upgrade over Harris, does Tranquill push Gay for reps in the Dime/Nickel? Or is just a nice upgrade as a backup? His stats last year seem to point to a guy ready to push Gay for reps. Either way its nice having such a talented LB room.
  11. I agree TE is a sleeper pick in this draft but drafting one in the first is bad positional drafting. Most of the best TE's are drafted after the first round. Most of the first round picks have failed to come close to their potential. Give me Laporta or Kuntz over having to draft Washington or Mayer in the first round.
  12. Yeah I saw that too Palangi. Dude was asking for 20 million when he hasn't put together a great season in years.
  13. Had a down year last year according so some but still had 80 some tackles and some turnovers. Is known for being a ball hawk and making some big plays. At 3 million per year that is a great signing. Veach is filling every hole he can in FA and the draft is going to be BPA for days!
  14. I believe he will sign a DT and WR before the draft and be open to BPA throughout. He has a history of drafting a year in advance so I wouldn't be surprised to see a TE and LB in the mid to late rounds. I also think he is going to be moving around a lot considering 11 rookies aren't making this roster. Time will tell but he's crushing this offseason so far.
  15. We needed another LB who can cover. We finally have a good one. Shocked we got him for such a cheap deal. Don't think this has much to do with 2024 as much as filling a big need with a good player for this year. We carried 4 LB's last year and we have our 4 this year.
  16. True, I guess I was just meaning at this point in time they are not on this roster. Thought McKinnon lost a step down the stretch. Didn't seem quite as explosive, but imo his greatest asset to this team was pass pro and that did not drop off at all. Love Pacheco but still think he needs more time to develop that level of pass pro. If we let McKinnon walk we need to find a back that can protect as well as he did.
  17. His loss in FA hurts because we are already so thin at DT but I like Cullen a lot and am not as worried about the DL. I think they will get it figured out.
  18. I do find it interesting. They lose Jessie Bates, Vonn Bell, Perine, and Hurst and all of a sudden sign OBJ and they have closed the gap? To be fair we lost Frank, Saunders, Juan Thornhill, Hardman (probably, but who didn't play down the stretch), OBJ, and Wylie but added Taylor and Omenihu. Both teams lost starters but their team isn't in a good cap situation and lost key contributors. We already drafted for Juan's depature. Omenihu replaces what we lost with Dunlap. We get Wharton back and still have money to spend and 11-12 draft picks. Not sure how they closed any sort of gap but ok we will see.
  19. I feel like the concussions and the knee put a cap on what we were going to offer him. He was a slightly above avg niche wr for us. In an offseason where Christian Kirk got 17 million apy and Adams and Hill broke the bank, Juju got an incentivized deal worth ~10 that was around 3 without the incentives. That screams replaceable player. I honestly expected more from him but that is because my expectations were more towards his rookie year stats. The WR market has somewhat self corrected itself and I think we can replace his production.
  20. After looking at it the deal with the Bengals is very similar to what we offered. It looks way worse but when you consider the upfront money he got and the fact he wasn't making it to year 5 or 6 on the deal we offered its pretty close to the same. He bet on himself and while he didn't hit it big he didn't lose much and still gets to play LT. Good on him. Glad it worked out that he didn't take the deal last year and Veach has moved on. It seems to have worked out for all involved.
  21. Honestly, at that price I wouldn't have minded him back. Also would have liked to have known what the Chiefs offered him.
  22. What a cool dude. Glad he got his bag. I think his best years are yet to come. However, for being a 3rd round pick we didn't get a lot of production (The elbow played a big part of that and wasn't his fault) but we did when it mattered most this year. His sack in the SB was a huge play in that game. Hate to lose him now but understand the business side of things.
  23. My guess is CJ gets done here in the next week or so and then we add one of the following wr's (OBJ, Hopkins, Slayton, Theilen, or Cooks) before the draft so as to go into the draft without a major hole other than maybe OT and 3rd safety.
  24. He is organizing these things to perfection on the Oline.
