  1. I think the original offer was pretty fair 4/~82. After Adams I could see that getting to 90. I love Hill and he is a weapon like few others but he isn't irreplaceable. For the betterment of long term picture this is the type of haul that if you draft well could set you up for a 10 year window. Might be the perfect time to do it. Not saying we don't compete but while all the other teams overpaid older high end vets for the next two years we compete this year and maybe get lucky but then cash in long term with the rookie class we draft this year for 2023. Who know? Maybe Veach still goes crazy this offseason.
  2. We have more flexibility now for sure. Seems like this might be a soft rebuild. Can't imagine Mahomes is happy with this decision though, but to be fair Hill and Mahomes don't hang out much outside of the team do they?
  3. So we are getting a 29th and 50th pick and their 4th and some meh picks next year. Would have rather had one of those jets picks to grab a sure fire starter. Watch Veach package both of our firsts to move down to the top 10 and we draft a wr that isn't as good as Hill. I was pretty patient and optimistic until now. I know we can reload and maybe that was the plan all along. Just seems like this offseason has been a disaster.
  4. I'm not defending Watson at all. I think he is a creep who very easily could have gotten away with illegal activity, but that fan base who adores Jim Brown and loves Kareem Hunt is doing a lot of virtue signaling. They start winning in the playoffs and the fan base won't care.
  5. Didn't Karlaftis have like 31-32" arms? Yikes! Ojabo is intriguing but can we afford for our first round pick to sit a year? A year he doesn't hardly get any reps. If we want Mafe we have to take him in round 1 but he is also raw but would at least be able to rotate in and get some reps. Where do you think we have to get to to nab Jermaine Johnson? He looks like a perfect fit for us. 15-20 range?
  6. I think both of you are right. Really don't want to get in a bidding war for a guy with bad issues though. However, he looked really dominant in the playoffs last year. It really is sad we have burned some of CJ's best years with less than stellar edge play. What are your thoughts on D. Hunter? I think he is a stud but I hate trading high picks for guys that we have to turn around and pay huge money. It's almost like double paying for a guy. Those are the only two guys we have been linked too that I think really help us this year. I'm afraid we end up with Frank, Ingram and a bottom of round one rookie. This team needs Kaindoh to pull a Maxx Crosby.
  7. I love Andy Reid. Some of his tendencies at times drive me crazy but he is an incredible coach. I wish he would course correct and would have made a run at La'El Collin and lined up in 12 personnel and got creative with running smash mouth football with play action and keep teams guessing. That is one thing that no one in the AFC West has done is bolster their run D. It is something our Oline could exploit at will and if we had a little more dynamic RB we would be unstoppable. All those speed rushers would have to set the edge all game long which is frustrating and not nearly as glamorous. At the end of the day our defense was meh last year and our qb finally had one of those halfs of football that he really hasn't shown in his career. We will be fine. They will surge to catch up and then we will finish FA off with some great solid moves that no media will talk about but at the end of the season will be what makes us the best in the AFC.
  8. Every team outside maybe the Bills was considerably less talented than us. Obviously not saying a less talented team can't beat us because we saw Cincy do it twice, but every team had to be desperate to catch up. Adam's real numbers are more like 22 apy not 28. This might add a little to Hill's contract but it won't be stupid imo. Every other team has blown their wad early and in most cases overpaid on aging vets they hope will produce. Chandler Jones and Khalil Mack. The Broncos mortgaged their future. If those teams are going to do it then it has to be this year. Mack and Jones and probably Gregory aren't going to be studs much longer. Broncos and Raiders traded important pics to get guys. The Chargers are the real threat because of Herbert but Allen isn't getting younger and they have issues on their Oline as well. The gap between us and the rest of the AFC is smaller but we should have all seen this coming with Mahomes contract eventually costing more. Reality is we are still one of the best teams in the AFC today and we still are going to add a DE and probably some more bargain pieces. I think we will be fine. I look for this O with the addition of JuJu to be next level scary this year.
  9. This will be Veach's biggest offseason. We have most of the high priced guys in house. We have to fill long term holes in the draft and/or find hidden gems similar to Ward. Last year's draft was awesome but it was also positions that are typically easier to hit on. Finding CB, DE, and WR will be more difficult. Like you said, if he can be above avg we will be fine. Mahomes deal is going to be a steal when it is all said and done. I love their philosophy about not signing older guys to long term deals.
  10. Agree. The mental toll is going to be immense. Also everything that gets said and comes out in each of these 22 civil cases is going to brought up and his teammates are going to have to answer for it. It is going to be a circus for a long time. They are considerably better with Deshaun and pose another threat but it will be interesting to see how they handle everything and all the blow back.
  11. Pringle is a great story but he isn’t young and at this point he is what he is. Good time to move on and give another player a chance.
  12. Veach will fill in the gaps so he can go bpa in the draft. Nnadi is good if it’s for depth as a run stuffer.
  13. The urgency and maybe desperation of the other AFC West and even the top tier AFC teams in trying to surpass the Chiefs? Teams are paying older vets in hopes of taking down the Chiefs. The Chargers went all out on D. The Broncos sold the farm for Russ. The Raiders doing Raider things with a 29 year old WR. Curious to see what Veach has in store.
  14. As slow and underwhelming as its been so far this week. If Veach could nab Fletcher Cox on a one year 12-14M, then sway Z Smith to come over for 3/36M and wrap it up with Juju on a 2/18M deal then I would say we got a lot better and spent a fraction of what the other AFC West teams spent to try and catch us.
  15. All I've seen is a bunch of desperate teams trying to catch us in the AFC and AFC west. The amount of money tied up in older vets is crazy. It may pay off this year or it may not but none of these signings is a sure deal. Prices will drop and we will fill our roster with solid vets for moderate deals which will help us down the road. This isn't a sprint its a marathon. The Chargers and Bills are the two teams that worry me the most at the moment but they blew their wads already and we are just getting started. Just be patient for a few more weeks.
  16. You are right. Can't trade picks and hand out massive deals either. Have to hit on hard positions in the draft. I'm also not sure that this run will mean an edge rusher will fall. All those teams that just lost an edge will be looking to upgrade as well. I also think teams know that if they want to beat the Bills, Chiefs, Bengals, Bucs they have to have a dominant pass rush. This would be the perfect time to deviate from the rest of the league. Value would be there too. DE/OLB are expensive. Grab a La'el Collins and a RB and start smashing the ball. I don't think any of the AFC west teams beefed up on the interior they just added edges so they could rush 4. I think it is something a dynamic HC would see and take advantage of. I don't foresee us doing this though.
  17. Who is left that would be a legit 10 sack guy? Von? Have to believe he wants to go back to Rams/Broncos before coming here. Was hoping for Z but maybe the back issues scared Veach off.
  18. In 2017 - 405 / 1903 4.7 ypc with Alex Smith as QB. Defenses would load the box vs that squad and Hunt still was avg 4.9 yards per carry. 2021 - 431/1955 4.5 ypc with Pat Mahomes. Defenses literally played 3-4 in the box and we avgd less yards per carry. A dynamic rusher would have feasted. I was absolutely surprised that the numbers were almost identical though. Andy going to run 25 times per game on avg regardless of the running back. I think a low key need for this team is a rb that has home run ability. Maybe bring McKinnon back?
  19. Lots of bad teams overpaying. It’ll settle down and Veach wilL find some steals.
  20. I appreciate all Tyrann did for this team. I am also excited Veach doesn’t allow emotion to influence him. Great signing! What shocked me was how close Ward and JC Jackson were in apy. I think adding JC at 16.5 per would have made our secondary borderline elite. Oh well, maybe they noticed something and passed.
  21. Not sure why anyone is against this. He is better than anyone we could have gotten for 1.2 million and we don’t exactly have any experienced DEs on this team. He should be a rotational player and offer veteran leadership. I don’t love him but it was a good business decision. Now we can still go get Z Smith or Jones and add Ingram latter along with a wr.
  22. Glad for him and glad we didn’t pay that. Crazy that JC only got like 2.5 million more in apy.
  23. Dang set the market as well to some degree.
  24. Why do I get this feeling we overpaid (if this is true).
  25. Landry would be steady but he finds ways to get open with out speed or being physical and there is value in that. No one else on this team could consistently do that. Juju has had two rough years but one was injury plagued and Ben is a shell of himself. He would thrive in that #2/#3 role. The biggest issue might have more to do with attitude and locker room chemistry. We share the ball here generally and whoever comes isn’t going to be hauling in 100 rec or 12-15 TDs barring an injury to Kelce or Hill. It will be about winning chips and being that missing piece this O needs. That isn’t for everyone. Excited to see Veach work but Gladney would be awesome and would add another talented young DB on the cheap!
