Would definitely love to keep him around but I'm not sure if it'll make financial sense for the Chiefs. We will have to let quite a bit of players leave after their rookie deal.
Does Sneed actually save us any money with an extension? He should be on the crappy rookie deal that probably pays him no more than a couple for this year. Regardless I see him leaving for a good deal next year with the way this regime has been developing CBs.
That would be too much with a QB like Mahomes. Sure makes things easier but that much money tied to a single non-QB position is worrisome. Glad he left and brought us a whole bunch of picks.
I remember the weird PS rule through the pandemic which gave us a 3rd QB. I don't know how Buechle was kept around last year, was he on the 53-man roster or the PS?
No way people can plan for a late-season trip knowing that all their reservations can go to waste. Pointless move IMO, not sure what they see as the benefit as the TV money should already be there since most of the time it's just the fans watching.
One step at a time. Pass defense is much better which helps when Mahomes likes to go up early in the game. Now we need to add some run defense to make this a top 10 unit. By the way the numbers may help in that regard but I don't see that much of a difference between a top 5 defense and a top 10 defense. It's mostly based on the opponent anyway.
I don't see Mahomes ever seeing the end of his contract here. He'll likely get a new contract every few years with some team consideration in mind. Just put pointless numbers in future years that inflate the value and keep it going until Bronze is ready to take over. Mahomes will keep making more money than any other QB with the endorsements and he's too competitive to go for money over rings so I think it's a huge win for both sides.
I'm guessing it's a matter of principal for the organization. Mahomes already "left money on the table" to keep some guys around and I wouldn't be surprised if he does that again. I think a new contract that inflates the average value but keeps the flexibility for the organization is very likely.
Mahomes understands that being the best means paying guys around him and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes for a Brady-like contract approach. He'll keep making more and more money with the endorsements and the rest.
Turns out Pennel as well. I guess Jones liked both guys quite a lot.
The only thing that is critical for me is that may be this enthusiasm is due to an agreement on a new extension. I wouldn't mind entering next season only worrying about Snead.
Based on the Smith signing I'm guessing that's the plan. It's nice to have a day one starter at any position but very unlikely at OT with a late pick in early rounds. That means we have to always think about a year ahead in terms of both OTs and we may see a pattern successfully executed with Morris even though I think that's what they planned for Niang back in the day as well.
