  1. I've never heard of a good TE class prior to the draft and haven't seen any TE drafted by the Chiefs as a serious prospect besides Gonzo. I'm sure there are people that focus on TE as well but in general the whole position seems to have less of a buzz than most others during the run up to the draft.
  2. I doubt Villanueva will go for a vet minimum deal. His value will go down each year so something like a 3-year deal would likely be his goal after the draft. Most rookies are considered day one starters at RT so makes a lot more sense to grab one and don't worry about the position for 4-5 years. Not sure how legit but read that Ravens could be packaging the picks to move up for a QB and let Jackson leave in FA once the time comes.
  3. At 32 years old he'll be declining rather fast at this point, not sure if I would want to absorb that contract. We could get a young FA for that much money.
  4. Rather than the players he knows the system, which is generally a good thing in a backup. Chiefs already needed to find some veteran backups for this year, might as well hang on to what's already in town.
  5. We definitely have the numbers right now but an upgrade at OC will be huge. If there's that protected PS like last year I can see the Chiefs carrying a couple linemen in there. Also there's the possibility of sending the worst guy packing.
  6. He might be too expensive to extend but a decent contract with the trade could make sense assuming the cap is really going up as much as expected.
  7. The draft itself will be as boring as it gets with the pandemic restrictions but there sure will be some interesting picks once the season starts as the article suggests. Teams don't know what to expect from quite a bit of prospects and teams that scouted better in 2019 might have an edge over others. Regardless the trade for Brown makes a lot of sense as a proven commodity is definitely better and with limited scouting and the extra 2nd is probably very useful to pick up someone that falls early on.
  8. Mahomes running for his life sure didn't have anything to do with the lack of a decent running game but if we could actually utilize such an aspect the pass rush wouldn't be so fierce and Mahomes could even get a breather. In the past it was run first and pass was complimentary. Right now the passing game has taken over and an even split is considered serious running. No matter how much emphasis is given to the run the pass attempts will likely exceed the rushes. However the run game should be there and available when needed for the ultimate goal.
  9. Neither is efficient in the NFL. If you go one dimensional the defenses will adjust and as seen in the SB some bad luck can render an entire offense useless if the other aspect isn't ready to take over. The most efficient way is simply to be able to do both at a decent level and adjust the ratio based on the needs of the specific situation. A solid running game will allow us to better utilize Mahomes and more importantly preserve him for a longer career. We have a generational talent at QB who injured his knee during a QB sneak, went into concussion protocol after a weird play that served no purpose, and became a punching bag in the SB as the defense didn't have to worry about anything else. 2 of the 3 situations in this list were due to lack of a decent running game (or trusted by the staff) and the other one is a consequence of it.
  10. Obviously some risks need to be taken but Kelce is the only legit receiver we have in the middle of the field and there's really nothing at TE besides him. They could always sign a veteran after the draft but I think TE is a legit need. In terms of replacing Kelce there's the need for a youngster with upside but I'm not sure which draft would be the best to address that one. Regarding the free agents, I think it's much easier to find a decent WR than a decent TE but in the end it's all about who's going to be available in either position.
  11. I wouldn't compare other teams picking OCs in 2nd with the Chiefs. We got our last two solid starters from day one there and one of them is still one of the best in the NFL. As long as the staff do their homework 2nd seems like the best place to pick one up and the reports about this specific draft point to the 2nd as well.
  12. Wylie is likely a matter of continuity. Not sure if there will be a bloated roster like 2020 but regardless I expect the staff to keep as many linemen as possible throughout the camp and knowing the system probably gives him some edge over others. Basically the "devil you know" for a year before some youngster is ready to take over his spot, if not sooner.
  13. Agree completely, a solid OC will turn this line into a strength and there are some solid options that are expected to be there in 2nd. We could find our next Hudson or Morse. There's also the bunch of veterans leaving after this season like LDT, Long, Wylie, Blythe, etc. I feel very comfortable at DE. It would definitely be nice to upgrade, especially if a solid prospect falls, but Danna showed some promise and Taco was decent before going down. I also expect Jones or Wharton to line up there in obvious passing downs. LB might be an issue but no other position is as big of a need as interior OL at this point assuming Niang is legit at OT.
  14. I think the order is OC, LB, TE, WR, CB. Not sure how the draft shapes up but OC and LB are the two priorities IMO, would probably go that way with the 2nds. Even though I think TE is a bigger need and would make a bigger impact than both WR and CB there's no specific order to the 3 positions and it all depends on whomever is available.
  15. From his Twitter activity I don't think Schwartz will return to the NFL and since both already have rings they won't be looking for cheap deals unless making a comeback due to some injuries on the roster. Fisher will likely get a multi-year deal after the draft though.
  16. Run should be the primary focus as long as it's working. Even a 50-50 split would be considered run-heavy in today's NFL and we have been more successful when running.
  17. I would just spend a 2nd on an OC and keep Thuney at LG. It has been a position of weakness for too long and would be nice to fully ignore the left side for a change. There seems to be some nice OC prospects that could start from day one and one should be available with one of our 2nds.
  18. The initial goal for Niang was a rookie year at OG before moving outside. So he might be a decent option in the short term and may be the long term if they think he's better there. With a deep OT class there might be some nice options available on the 2nd day or later that could start in 2022.
  19. Definitely, just curious about the reports if any came up.
  20. So is Niang our RT or swing tackle at this point? They paid a decent sum for Remmers and he looked good last year.
  21. That's the rule of the NFL, you need to swap expensive players with cheap options and sometimes lose some production assuming the rookie class is definitely worse.
  22. Makes a lot of sense for the Ravens as well. Brown is a RT for them and unless they tag him he would leave in 2022 and bring in a 3rd for 2023. Instead they get another 1st this year as well as some other value in the draft and don't have to deal with the contract next year. Instead they can get a rookie RT this year for cheap and not worry about it for the next 5 years. I don't know or actually care about the value of each pick as the charts are all arbitrary but I don't think the trade is bad for anyone involved.
  23. Davis will likely end up at OC but I like Myers out of Ohio State as a day one option. Would definitely prefer Dickerson or Meinerz and have Humphrey ranked as the 3rd. Pretty sure at least one of them will be there with the Ravens' pick.
