  1. You don't get rid of people like Jones, especially when the defense is the weaker part of your team. The idea is nuts.
  2. The last game I went to with my son was a few years ago. Rainy and cold. A night game. Miserable. Plus we lost. I think it was to the Jags. So, we planned this for earlier in the season and during the day, get tickets, and here we are. I wonder if there is some conspiracy. Oh well, this time we win....I think.
  3. I think you're right on. LJ hasn't yet had to deal with noise like at Arrowhead (I'll be there, but my voice isn't what it once was). He will have some false starts. I believe this game we will finally see Clark at his best, and he will make Jackson pay for some of his runs. We are much better on the edge than last season. That will put a little fear in him. Their defense will not be able to keep Mahomes from putting at least 30 on the board. The Ravens defense has lost too many key guys from their defense of the prior few years. My only concern is the weather. If it rains through the game, the team with the better running game has the advantage, and that is not us, not with D. Williams out and McCoy limited. Maybe Darwin Thompson will get his shot. I still predict a win, and it just may turn out to be on Buttkicker to do exactly that.
  4. What are the stats rating for Fisher compared with Williams last year? I would want to see those before deciding that Williams is an upgrade. I don't have those numbers, but somebody around here must. An OL takes about 5 years to reach his peak, by the way. Fisher has gotten better and better each year, and the last I heard was that he is now considered one of the best. It might be that there are opinions here that look cumulatively at all the past mistakes he has made since he was drafted. If true, that would be a mistake. Last year's comparison of the two should be the criterion used.
  5. I don't think it's that desperate. Mahomes may have to escape and improvise a bit more. We've seen he is pretty good at that. The Cassandra's around here are pretty pathetic.
  6. Reid believes in versatility and depth, especially the OL. There are three or four guys who took many snaps at tackle during training camp. Reid expects nearly all his linemen to learn the tackle position. I suspect that Schwartz is going to move to LT and put one of the other guys will play RT.
  7. Hell, if he needed surgery, his playing a few snaps made zero difference. It had no effect on worsening his core muscle injury. He had a core on the other side. So that is BS about the training staff. But this is definitely bad news. In order to protect Mahomes, the line will be tied up in pass pro and won't be able to run block as well. The running game will suffer big time, just like in the game against the Raiders. Mahomes is going to have to use his escape magic and make more plays on the run, relying on the pocket less, like last year. We need Hill more than ever on those bubble screens in order to spread out the defense. A lot of motions. But we won't have him back for at least a month. I suspect Schwartz may be moved to the left side. Or we could get by with an average LT in a trade. Cam Erving is less than average. Wiley might be better.
  8. I hope Fisher can go. Otherwise, we will have to use up our run blockers protecting Mahomes again, and our RB's will be stymied again.
  9. I'll be there. My oldest son is taking me as a belated father's day present. Really looking forward to it. It's like full circle. My dad took me to all the games at old Municipal Stadium in 1969 when we won our only Superbowl and then for four years after that. Then I was gone to Atlanta for 5 years. By the time I got back to KC, the Chiefs stunk, but my fanship was set. I could never miss watching a game after that but only went to a game usually only once per season. Now its 46 years later, and we have the best QB in football.
  10. I think you are about 80% on that one, because the difference with DRob is that he is big and can go up and win contested catches much more so than Hill or Hardman or even Watkins. Also, his routes looked pretty disciplined to me yesterday, but I am not much of judge on that sort of thing. Those seemed to me to be designed things, not him making himself available when everyone else is covered.
  11. When your left tackle is out and replaced with a hack, and your all-universe franchise QB has mobility (purposely) reduced from a sprain, all of the guards' attention along with the tackles is on pass pro. That doesn't leave any holes for a running back, even someone with the vision of McCoy and the overall abilities of Damien Williams. I believe that yesterday's game simply cannot be used as a measure of our running game. Once Mahomes has full mobility and Fisher is back, we will see what our running game actually is. When you have a QB like Mahomes and great targets for him, you can put every single guy on creating an impenetrable pocket for him to pass from. That's what they did, and it obviously was the right decision. Shady was used merely as a threat to keep Oakland honest.
  12. They were keying on him - thought he was going to be the big weapon with Fisher out. In fact, Fisher being back in would be a huge boost to him. There were guards assigned to help with pass pro, especially with Mahomes' mobility a bit reduced. Better to keep Mahomes in one piece than to make holes for Shady.
  13. I'm going to point no fingers, but there were several on the board not long ago saying that we should get rid of DRob, that he was expendable and never has done anything. Mahomes, of course, makes any receiver better, but DRob runs great routes, is fast, smart, has amazing hands, always manages to get some space, and is a good special teamer as well. Hmmm. That's a lot of skills. I'd say he's a keeper.
  14. We should have used Darryl Williams in some of those short yardage situations.
  15. Mahomes is just shocking to watch. He is from a different planet. To think he is ours is....there are just no words.
  16. Guys like him are like fine wine. You need to sip it, not gulp it. They don't lose anything. They just can't be as great for as many carries per game. As long as we do the committee thing,, he will be (already is) a huge asset. Coaches need to be careful about using him too much. To me, having him along with Damien, Darrel, and Darwin makes us as good at RB as when Kareem Hunt was the man. All of them are excellent receivers. Without Hill for awhile, that is going to be really crucial.
  17. They could use any # of carries formula to start out and then adjust according to performance and fatigue. Who knows? McCoy could function so highly and with so much stamina, that he could end up with the bulk of carries, or it could go the other way. I don't think they will ever use McCoy for short yardage. Too much wear and tear. As you say, we have both Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson for that. But Reid will keep defenses confused by using a RB that seems to indicate one thing and then Mahomes might pass. It could be 3rd and 1/2 yard to go, Reid would put in Darrel William, and then Mahomes might throw a 70 yard bomb to Hill or Hardman. Reid will establish a pattern and then use that to fool the defense when the time is right. It really is an embarrassment of riches.
  18. Yeah. Jamaal Charles was still very effective until his second injury and rehab. Being able to juke and move and change directions and make people miss is a skill that will still get him a lot of yards. And you don't need a lot of speed to be a great pass blocker.
  19. Whatever he can still do, the front office thinks it is worth 4 million dollars, even with the running backs we already had. That means something.
  20. I just cannot imagine how any team can really stop the Chiefs' offense now.
  21. It may be that Reid will put him in on 3rd and around 5-10 yards to go, when teams will be coming in screaming toward Mahomes. This protects Mahomes a lot, because they will be too afraid to do that if McCoy is in there. This would seem to be a major Mahomes protector gambit as much as anything. Also, think about the clock-killing benefit when we are hanging onto a one score lead late in the game. Scoring fast is one thing, but getting first downs has its place. Think about its effect when playing against Von MIller or Chubb.
  22. I think an older guy can be just is good if he doesn't have to play the majority snaps. With more breathers, he can function more like the younger McCoy when he is in there. HIs reputation alone will keep LB in and open up the middle. Bell and Yelder might be better if they have a little more room. We could weather an injury to Kelce better. He could be "The Real McCoy."
