  1. All around good day. My third day of Covid, and symptoms almost gone. All the most important teams won (or lost depending on which is more important). Weather was beautiful. Now I have to wait for my tests to turn negative . Please don't let Skyy Moore return punts ever again.
  2. Have you considered that a lot of the problem is that the last two games were against really good offenses?
  3. And a side of circus peanuts. Or maybe a small bowl of candy corn. I always like folding in the melted harshmellows with the rice crispies and a nice shot of insulin.
  4. That's because we are secret members of the "Dead Goats Society."
  5. Maybe the ability to keep someone who is an important piece - a punter? placekicker, long snapper? rotational lineman? A midseason pickup to fix an injury situation? Lots of things.
  6. He was never a speed rusher. He's a pressure guy, and yes, he is new to American football and just starting to learn. Pressure rushers don't need that much bend. They need to be strong and relentless. They knew all this when he was drafted, expecting to use Dunlap on that side during Karlaftis' first year, whenever a speed rush was needed. The fact that he is starting as a rookie indicates that the coaches feel he has a high ceiling. His floor is already average, maybe better. He is just learning how to use his feet and hands against NFL competition. His strength is very impressive. He is extremely intelligent and by all accounts is picking things up fast and has a passion to learn and improve. To have questions about him being lousy at this point is ridiculous. In a year, we will know.
  7. Karloftis is going to be great. One rather invisible game in his rookie year trying to push through Buffalo tackles means nothing. Just good experience. Anyway, we needed DE's, and he was the best left on the board. Maybe if we had lost 12 or 13 games last year, we could have grabbed the best one.
  8. Hate to harsh your mellow, but estrogens, especially estradiol, are extremely important in males. So, joke doesn't work. But still funny.
  9. Absolutely. Especially (as you say, this has been bothering me) why did they not throw to the backs? In the previous game, CEH did not realize he was going to be actually targeted, so the ball hit him in the back of the head. If he were targeted more often, he might be ready for it. He has great hands. Yes. CEH and all the runners would do a lot better on a shallow hand off. As far as the Bell comment, does a mouse like cheese?
  10. Right. And we still lost by only 4 points yesterday. Also, we miss Hill. We knew it, but it will pay off.
  11. With Gay, we win this game. My concern is not with the gameplan or the pass rush or choice of rushers. My biggest question is why they didn't throw to CEH and McKinnon. They never did that. Never that I recall. Why?? My other observation is that the O-line simply came up against a D-line that is the best in the NFL right now. Those defenders at all levels are simply very, very (OK, very) good. Karlaftis if fine. He is a rookie and learning the moves. Face it, everyone. Buffalo is a great team and simply played better, and we were missing Gay and half of our secondary. It's not the end of the world. Everyone in football and most of us here predicted this. I thought it would be worse. They smashed us in the mouth and were intent to do so because of last year's playoff game.
  12. Thanks, Burps! Just remove the four "far"s, and I'll consider it a gift.
  13. Thanks, Mex. At my age, all I can say is that it is better to be lucky than good. I think the Chiefs will need to be both.
  14. It's my 75th birthday tomorrow. The football gods will give me whatever they think I am worth. In truth, I think they're sick to death of me. But there is a small chance they may smile upon me. There is a bigger chance they will flat out laugh upon me and point and snicker.
  15. I'll weigh in. I'm afraid we will lose this one. Buffalo is a juggernaut right now. We won't have McDuffie, even though he is at practice. The secondary is missing guys. We don't have Gay. The whole defense has not gelled yet. The Buffalo defense is extremely strong and will bring great pressure. Allen will run on us to maintain drives. Sorry guys, we lose this one. Could be by just a little, but I would say more likely by more than one score. The main thing is that Buffalo is supercharged to get even for their last second loss to us last year in the playoffs. Their motivation will be off the charts similar to ours against Tampa Bay.
  16. Reid also has an uncommon knack for keeping players and his team on an even keel, playing down big victories as well as defeats. One of the amazing qualities that can't be replaced is the way he immediately gives a player who made an error or fumble the ball again, literally on the next play, as a way of letting them redeem themselves to the fans and help them immediately regain confidence in themselves. Other coaches simply take them out of the game and punish them by not giving them opportunities the rest of the game. There are 10 times as many coaches who do those things than there are coaches who stick up for their players in the way he does. It pays off. That's why the team tries to play its ass off for him. He uses carrots instead of sticks. It probably accounts for a couple more victories per season all by itself. It is going to be a herculean task to replace a coach like that.
  17. What will not be replaceable is the way Andy lets his players be themselves on the field and the love his players end up feeling for him. They all feel it, even the UFA's and 7th rounders. Those are the intangibles. His deadpan sense of humor, also.
  18. Having Mahomes-Reid every year is like having one or two extra 1st round draft choices every year. It took so many decades to put a combination like that together. Whenever one or both are gone, it will take a long time once again. Enjoy the glory years of the Chiefs franchise. Dawson-Stram was like that.
  19. Yes. In terms of those mistakes, every team makes them We also benefited from the Raiders'decision to try to go for 2 Monday night and a few other things, like Adams and that other receiver colliding with each other. So that's a wash. At the same time, you are right about Butker, McDuffie, and Gay. Other teams we have played have had key injuries, though. So, all you can say is that it is part of football.
  20. In a complex defensive scheme, that is understandable. Especially early in the season. I would love to still have Charvarius Ward, but we also are good with minding the cap and drafting guys, so as the Rolling Stones said, "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
  21. I expected us to be 50:50 this first half of the season because of the schedule. Although some of it is luck, we are looking better than that for sure.
