  1. For some people, their own ego or sense of self-worth is more dependent on money than on substance or actions. A lot of people in the world are like that, not just OBJ. The only concern I have is that we never get a deal done, he leaves, and he turns into a perennial all-pro. It's possible, but if my first paragraph applies, not likely.
  2. Yeah, they are great at it, and it works. It contributes to the team chemistry that has been so important. It is like having an extra player on the field.
  3. Exactly! A different kind of game plan that would achieve more time of possession would do more to improve our defensive stats than any single other thing, even if nothing else changes. We can't have our defense gasping for air in the fourth quarter. Our new line , running group, and the variety of receivers who can run more short and intermediate routes would make this the year to change things up in that direction.
  4. He would make a fine right tackle, no doubt. Imagine that! Maybe the Ravens were on to something. It is really interesting to read this fine analysis from last November. https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/gm-report/lt-orlando-brown-jr-is-earning-a-massive-payday-with-the-kc-chiefs Possibly the only problem is trying to convince this guy to finally realize that, yes, he was physically made to be a right tackle and might as well accept it and accept that he should be paid like one. He will eventually. I hope it is with the Chiefs, because he really is a good "big man" for the right side, like Mitch Schwartz was. I think Veach and crew are in the early stages of a massive hunt for a truly great left tackle for 2023 and beyond.
  5. A 26 year old kid getting less than 20 million dollars? What has the world come to? Cry me a river.
  6. In retrospect, Brown's dealings with the Ravens and demand to move to LT or be traded pretty much described him as a person. I think the Ravens were probably happy to be done with him. I wonder if Veach and Co. are having any buyer's remorse. I am guessing that Brown, Jr. thinks that everything should be given to him, because, you know, his father.
  7. Known as "huffery puffery." Unearned demand for respect. A guy desperate for his own cut.
  8. Yeah. Probably too much guaranteed up front. If he gets a career ending injury, that guaranteed money still gets paid and counts against the cap. Only desperate, bad teams do that. Which is why they remain bad. Been there, done that.
  9. The double franchise tag gives Veach a chance to save a lot of money and have the time to give him what he wants later. There is also the possiblitiy that Brown gets hurt. We don't want to commit to major guaranteed money and take a huge cap hit if he gets hurt this season and gets question marks about his value.
  10. Thanks. What about college players? Do you know who the hot prospects are?
  11. What does the market for LT's look like for next year? Both for the draft and for free agency?
  12. Also, Blake Bell would come in to run block more and give the "old man" Kelce more rest.
  13. True. And if the Chiefs can run 40% of the time, that will still be an improvement. Maybe even enough to force defenders to bring one of the safeties in. That will help the receivers the other 60% of the time. I just think that guys like Trey Smith and Thuney and Humphrey and Brown can create big lanes and get runners to the second level like we haven't seen for quite awhile. To not take advantage of that with the running game would be a strategic failure in my opinion. I even think that running 45% of the time would really mess up defenses and help Mahomes the other 55% of the time. His passing stats might even improve. Opponent's defenses will be more tired by the 4th quarter, and Mahomes passing magic would be even more amazing then. With a lead, we could really run out the clock a lot better if we are running more. Not sure that Reid and Mahomes would have that kind of discipline, though. It would be definitely safer for Mahomes. With our schedule and the stronger AFC West, having Mahomes lose 4 games to an injury while scrambling would be a death knell for us.
  14. I don't think so. Why? Because he has continuing legacy, his dad, to want to live up to. He is also protecting the best QB and has a perennial chance to get the ring. Not everything is about money when it comes to motivation. I guess that may be true of some players, but Brown has a lot to prove on the field. He knows it and wants to prove it. I don't think there is any danger at all in giving him the contract he is looking for.
  15. One thing is that OB is a great run blocker. If we run more this season, your opinion on his value would change.
  16. I remember it, too. God, I hated Ben Davidson and all those smirking and nasty Raiders and their dirty hits and bullying attitudes. The Redwood Forest never had a problem with them, though. Nor did Lanier, Lynch and Bell.
  17. Otis was so fluid. He just glided and then could leap up and beat anyone on a contested catch. Great hands. I remember it like yesterday. I went to every home game the year I got back to KC in 1969.
  18. Absolutely. We tend to forget them because of his huge number of targets. But I remember most of them for that very reason, and a few of them hurt really bad.
  19. Depends on the cast and director. One of my favorite all time movies was "Dumb and Dumber"
