  1. I think the D right now is a lot worse than mediocre. It doesn't mean it will stay that way, but it is right now. I see four reasons for yesterday, 1) 4 turnovers will make any team lose, no matter who they are. 2) Clark may be more valuable than he is being given credit for. 3) Mike Williams 4) Justin Herbert is outstanding
  2. I'll say it again. The new Chiefs era will be marked by Mahomes and several expensive playmakers who will need to be paid big time, while relying on first contract guys and some aging good FA's coached by oustanding coaches. This is like the early and later Patriot era. We are a passing team and must protect our golden jewel. Veach spent the offseason doing just that. The D needs to be mediocre and will be before long. One or two more stops per game. It is time to stop ragging on Veach. He did what he had to snd did it well. Offenses are always ahead of defenses early in the season. You know what time it is? Time to chill and and show a tad of confidence. Maybe follow Mahomes' attitude.
  3. Yeah. It's really amusing. And we were one fumble away from a two point victory over one of the best teams in football, a fumble by a running back who almost never fumbles, one of the best non-fumbling runners in football statistically. But the sky is definitely falling. A near 2-0 record against 2 great teams. But the sky is definitely falling.
  4. I accidentally quoted myself instead of editing. Above is the edited post.
  5. The D will get better. As someone else mentioned, they didn't really have to practice much against a running scheme in OTA's and camp. Our O is pass first. Not making excuses, but there are many young guys, and Spags' system is different. Plus, the O HAD to try to find a Watkins replacement. It was all about competition for who was going to be WR2 and WR3. So, they didn't really run a lot agaist the D in practices. That is changing, and so will the outcomes. nd LJ is something totally different. And before that, the Cleveland RB's are no bozos, either. Chubb and Kareem Hunt. C'mon folks. No team is going to look good on run D against those two teams.
  6. All I know for certain is that the sky is falling. The fact that we lost a game proves it.. We suck. End of story. I am officially burning all of my Ben Niemann and Dan Sorenson T-shirts. I don't care how cold it gets this winter.
  7. Plus, I read this morning that the Chiefs are the youngest team in the entire league. i knew they were young, but not the youngest. That bodes for a bright future with Mahomes at QB in his prime. We will get couple more Lombardi's at least before this golden era is said and done.
  8. After what happened in the last Super Bowl, Veach had one overwhelming crucial project - replace and fix the O-line to protect Mahomes. He did an amazing job of that, and that line will gel by mid season and be great for years. But no manager can do that without putting the other side of the ball on the back burner a little bit. I think he did a great job with drafting Bolton, and Gay and Sneed before that, and has found gems in Wharton, Danna and others, but no one should expect a really good D after the project absolutely required for the O-line this last offseason. It was an emergency, and his job already shows. I see Sneed, Thornhill, the young LB's and the front line supplemented by another draft and a couple of FA pickups and a new contract for the HB, and we have the makings of a great D. There is WAAAAY too much concern about the long term D and comparisons like the Packers with Rodgers. It is painful to watch them right now against Cleveland and then LJ, but we should not let that pain distort our common sense. Take a deep breath and enjoy the show. I am still predicting 14-3.
  9. We beat them like a drum. What are you talking about? Thanks to CEH's fumble, we didn't break their hearts at the end. They broke ours Anyway, your team is awesome. LJ is the real deal. Impossible to deal with...until the next time
  10. My long-winded two cents: The Chiefs will poke and prod and feel around for what works or what doesn't while they trade scores back and forth. This will give the opponent the delusional idea that they might win, make us fans nervous, and be good for NFL TV ratings. But in the third and fourth quarter, Mahomes wil be green lighted to break their hearts and backs and then will use the clock to run out the game after getting a two score lead. The Chiefs will win by one score just to keep flying under the radar a bit and avoid making true enemies out of opposing head coaches and teams. This typical pattern avoids creating teams that have obsessive burning desires or missions to beat us the next time we face them. Reid's special tricks will remain in the bag unless absolutely needed, and I don't think they will be needed because of the Ravens' injuries. This game is just another move in a larger chess match. Local writers and national bookies make predictions based on a lot of things, but they rarely take into account the psychologic manipulations of great coaches like Reid who play the longer game with the super bowl in mind. The goal is not to break statistical records and make enemies. Merely win the game.
  11. And what are the comparative number of Pro Bowls that Fisher and Brown made their first three years? These are all really good questions.
  12. And comparative number of games and years playing at L tackle? And what were Fisher's grades his first 3 years?
  13. My question is: what is his composite grade against Myles Garrett? And with a new team with a different system, working with 3 rookies, and playing in 91 degree heat? And with only 5 or 6 games under his belt at that position?
  14. Its more than "sticking to a story". Its not about propaganda or pleasing fans. They are coaches and mentors. They are there to encourage and support their players, not just teach them. A manager or boss of any kind better do that or they will fail...in any business. Reid says only enough. That is his style, and it is a good one. He who talks least talks best. I wish I could do that.
  15. Bolton can react quickly and bust people's chops, and his tackling soundness is terrific, but Gay's tools are out of sight. He could end up like Derrick Johnson according to one opinion I read. I would be extremely surprised if Bolton turned out better, but I like the hell out of Bolton. We could have a really top LB corps in another year or so.
  16. If it turns out to be a long lasting or permanent problem, at least we got him on a short contract that can be not renewed. Not a big risk. I've got an idea. Let's see what actually happens over the course of the season. A road grader is not necessarily a bad thing. We just adjust strategies against teams with great speed rushers. Our coaches and Mahomes are capable of all kinds of different strategies for different teams. Beating Cleveland by 4 points, a team desperate to get payback, hardly seems like a cause for great concern at this point. Hell, reading this stuff , one would think we lost 45-10.
  17. He's been selected to two pro bowls out of three years playing, and his dad was a legend. He is huge and smart. Just because he protected on the right side a very mobile QB who could be a RB doesn't mean he can't protect anyone else. I just think this is way premature. As others have said, let the line gel. No one has any idea what he can do until then. This thread is just ridiculous.
  18. Of course they can change...by the routes you mention. But it happens at an emotional level. Can't change yourself by thinking yourself into changing. It can happen at a spiritual level. It happens by repeatedly remembering your connection with others and acting in that way. We are simply what we repeatedly do. I should have specified that. Your point is well taken.
  19. He's a great runner and receiving back, but you're right. A guy who does that to a woman will do it again at some point.. Maybe this year, maybe n a decade. But eventually. Thinking about one's behavior does not control the rage reaction. It is a pure emotional outburst, not a calculated decision. He is a threat to any woman, and she might very well have been expressing just those thoughts...not that it would change anything...
  20. If you look closely, that is way too long to be a middle finger. She is holding a cell phone to get a camera or video shot. The bottom of the phone goes way down below the attachment point of her fingers. Hard to see in the shadow. They guy behind later tried to pat him on the arm You could be right, though. It does look like she has white painted fingernails on her other fingers. I know! She was asking im to grab onto her finger to help him into the stands, or maybe so she could use the old "pull my finger" joke.
