  1. I dont think KC should replace Veach and they wont. I do think some of the challenges this team is facing is Gm and Hc and Coaches and players. Yes great team no doubt. Competitive yes. Room for improvement in all areas yes. Veach is learning on the job and Im sure he is getting more effective and confident every day.
  2. I would think several teams will be in the running. Maybe HB can sell this?
  3. Chargers are said to be interested as well. Another reason to jump on this?
  4. Is there an actual chance that the Chiefs land the veteran pass rusher? In short, yes. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and there seems to be a lot of smoke surrounding this story. Despite the fact that the Chargers may also be bidding for Mercilus’ services, I think that it makes sense for him to choose Kansas City. For starters, his former college roommate and Texans teammate Jeff Allen reside in the Kansas City area, and the two remain close to this day. Mercilus and Kansas City’s defensive leader, safety Tyrann Mathieu, played together in Houston in 2018. When everything is said and done, it wouldn’t shock me if Mercilus is wearing red and gold by the end of the week.
  5. Does Mercilus still have anything left in the tank? Mercilus’ best season came in 2015, when he was lined up next to all-pro defensive end JJ Watt. Mercilus finished the season with 12.0 sacks that year. Since then, he has only topped 7.5 sacks in twice. That being said, Mercilus is more athletic than his numbers might suggest. Prior to this season, Mercilus played outside linebacker for the Texans and was frequently utilized in pass coverage. Coming off a bad year in 2020 when Pro Football Focus gave him an overall defensive grade of 39.5, Mercilus has rebounded in 2021. As of Tuesday, his current PFF grade is 61.1, with a pass-rush grade of 60.8. This is by no means a world-beating grade, but to put things in perspective, it would be good enough to rank second on the Chiefs’ defensive line, trailing only Tershawn Wharton’s grade of 61.2, and Mercilus would be tied for the lead in sacks on the team with three. A couple of weeks back, Houston Texans lead film analyst John Harris broke down one of Mercilus’ sacks as part of Houston’s “Telestrator” series on YouTube. Just based on this single rep, it would appear that even at age 31, Mercilus still possesses the athletic ability to beat a top-tier tackle off the snap, and he has the bend to get around the corner and get to the quarterback. In the video, Mercilus does an excellent job of utilizing his inside hand to rip down on the tackle's outside arm, preventing the lineman from getting into his body, allowing himself to stay clean and outside of the tackle’s frame. That provides him the leverage needed to turn the corner with very little contact and get after the quarterback. This is only one play. But it’s enough for me to say that I might take a swing on Mercilus on an affordable one-year deal.
  6. He had history with Brady. Maybe Tampa had a more urgent need for playmakers.
  7. Jody was also blocking well. Gray may have just simply been behind him on the depth chart. I think he will get some reps now and start working his way into regular targets.
  8. So I thought he was released vs will be released. Thus a trade could happen. From AA. Whitney Mercilus and the Chiefs would have to wait for a potential deal first. But here’s the thing: the Texans know what they are doing here and what can often happen is for a team to step up with a trade offer where there was none before in order to keep another team from getting him. Remember when the Patriots were going to release Stephon Gilmore or the Jaguars were going to let C.J. Henderson walk. Then suddenly there were trades for both after rumors leaked of the forthcoming release. Suddenly teams had to ante up or wait to make a pitch in free agency. https://arrowheadaddict.com/2021/10/19/whitney-mercilus-link-kc-chiefs-isnt-simple-sounds/
  9. The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports the Chiefs have "strong mutual interest" in free agent OLB Whitney Mercilus. Mercilus, 31, was granted his release out of Houston Monday and figures to land on his feet pretty quickly with a contender. Kansas City needs all the help it can get on the defensive side of the ball. Mercilus has three sacks this season and 57 in his 10-year career.
  10. Texans released KR/WR Andre Roberts. 33-year-old Roberts inked a two-year deal with the rebuilding Texans over the offseason. He played 26 offensive snaps for Houston, catching a 35-yard pass on two targets. As a returner, Roberts has returned a league-high 18 kickoffs with a long of 38 yards. He was a Pro Bowl selection each of the last three seasons as a return man.
  11. Im not good at player analysis. Seems no downside to checking in. He has 3 sacks so far. I think that shows some juice left.
  12. Texans released OLB Whitney Mercilus. Mercilus, 31, was in his 10th season with the Texans, the only team he's ever known after being drafted 26th overall out of Illinois in 2012. He appeared in 134 games for the team, starting 102, and registered 57 career sacks, including three through the first six weeks of this season. We'd expected him to land on his feet with a contender as a sub-package edge rusher.
  13. Its more bad luck than anything else. Kc has had good luck for a long time and now the law of averages is showing up. How many teams would be 3-3 with this many turnovers? Not many. Better things should start coming the CHiefs way. I said 11-6 and still winning it all. Im staying with that.
  14. Or a great defensive player. Reid would not run the ball enough to make any RB worth a high pick.
  15. He is an average RB. Those are available every day. Look at Balt. Key guys out for the year and they signed guys off the street.
  16. Meanwhile Ravens are crushing the Chargers. I think Jackson has arrived as a complete QB.
  17. Adam Teicher @adamteicher The cart is out to take Jody Fortson off the field
  18. Matt Derrick @mattderrick Jody Fortson went down during that play and it doesn't look good. Away from the ball, looked like non-contact.
  19. The Chiefs say Tyreek Hill is questionabkle to return with the quad injury that was bothering him during the week. Hitchens will not return
