  1. Clark deal was one of the worst trades ever. Gave up way too much. If Garrappalo completes that pass to a wide open Sanders , Clark would be seen for what he really is, an average DE.
  2. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has certainly noticed some differences in Hardman’s approach as he enters his third season with the team. “Yeah with Mecole (Hardman), the maturity I guess you would say of how he practices, how he goes about his business is completely different,” Mahomes told reporters on Friday. “I mean we’ve always seen the talent; we’ve always seen the speed and the way he’s able to make plays happen. Him being so comfortable with the offense and with just how we do things, I think it’s going to take his game to a new level.
  3. Kemp has continued to have an excellent camp, with two touchdowns on Tuesday and a beautiful high-point among three defenders on a deep pass from Chad Henne during Wednesday’s nine-on-seven work. Wednesday also saw Kemp with about 10-15 yards after the catch during the tackle period. Kemp has become a reliable target for Mahomes — as has Hardman.
  4. Offensive and defensive line drills continued on Wednesday, with left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. having a better day than Tuesday. Here are the winners and losers: Winners (in order): Turk Wharton, Trey Smith, Chris Jones, Mike Danna, Lucas Niang, Khalen Saunders, Creed Humphrey; Losers (in order): Darryl Williams, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Nick Allegretti, Frank Clark.
  5. Nate Taylor @ByNateTaylor Khalen Saunders had a great spin move to get by Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Saunders also worked Nick Allegretti on back-to-back repetitions.
  6. Patrick Mahomes just extended the play and found Noah Gray deep over the middle during 7-on-7. Looking forward to seeing that on Sundays.
  7. Sam McDowell @SamMcDowell11 One-on-ones observations: Trey Smith ain’t losing his starting job. 8:27 AM · Aug 4, 2021 Nate Taylor @ByNateTaylor Trey Smith is good at this blocking thing. He swallowed Tershawn Wharton in 1-on-1 drill. Geoff Schwartz @geoffschwartz Trey Smith has been jumping all the 3T. So the DT goes inside and Trey redirects inside and hammers the DT. You have to love the way he plays
  8. KC Chiefs have very real competition at right tackle https://arrowheadaddict.com/2021/08/04/kc-chiefs-real-competition-right-tackle/
  9. With pads being on, the Chiefs participated in their first offensive line-versus-defensive line drills of training camp, which came with some winners and losers. Winners (in order): Tershawn Wharton, Mike Danna, the first-team offensive line interior of Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, Chris Jones, Frank Clark, Austin Edwards Losers (in order): Orlando Brown Jr. (who Jones tossed and Danna beat), Andrew Wylie, Taco Charlton. In the above drill, Lucas Niang had better reps against Alex Okafor than Jones. “As a rookie, he is very impressive,” said Okafor of Niang. “Obviously, he’s big, strong, physical, but more than anything, you don’t see him mess up too often. He’s patient, and you don’t see that too often as a tackle. I think offensive linemen, especially tackle, has one of the hardest learning curves as a rookie, and you just don’t see that from him. At least not yet.
  10. TYREEK HILLWR, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS Tyreek Hill missed practice Tuesday with knee tendonitis. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is being careful with his superstar wideout, who was seen working out to the side of the team's training camp practice. Even if Hill sits out a few days, there's no real risk of him missing any regular season action. The speedster's knee health is worth monitoring though.
  11. bie Teope @HerbieTeope Takeaways from vantage point: * Joe Thuney looks part, a wall. * Creed Humphrey stonewalled Derrick Nnadi. * Trey Smith stopped Jarran Reed cold on second rep; Reed got penetration on first rep. * Niang struggled vs. Clark. * Chris Jones destroyed Brown, pushed him to ground.
  12. Pete Sweeney @pgsween The long awaited OL/DL one-on-ones wrapped up. New offensive line largely looked good, sans Orlando Brown Jr., who seemed to struggle a bit vs. Chris Jones, Mike Danna. Danna and Turk Wharton had very nice looks. I was rather impressed with interior — Thuney, Humphrey, Smith. 8:50 AM · Aug 3, 2021 from St Joseph, MO
  13. @Jacobs71 If you are wondering about Creed Humphrey’s anchor is . He just stonewalled Nnadi back to back. #Chiefs Chris Jones walked Orlando Brown back on the first rep then the second he tossed him to the ground
  14. After what had been some solid days for the offense as camp began, quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw the ball away three times during Monday’s workout. As is well expected by now, Bieniemy made sure to verbally express his dismay. “Being a competitor, we all want it to be perfect, but we understand the ebb and flow of practice,” said Bieniemy. “Sometimes you have good days, sometimes the guys on the other side have good days. The only thing you want to see is guys making sure that they continue to play with the effort that we expect them to play with. Then, when it’s all said and done with, we’ll coach it up on tape and just clean it up. So, [Monday], we didn’t have a very good day, but I’ll have an opportunity to really evaluate it once we go in there and look at it on tape.” Bieniemy and his offensive coaches will evaluate Monday’s tape, establish what went wrong, and then address it with the players in anticipation of Tuesday’s workout, which will be critical: it’s the first padded look of the preseason. “You want to see these guys communicate at all levels,” explained Bieniemy as he looked forward to Tuesday. “On top of that, you want to see them lined up and play hard together. You want to see them strain to finish. One thing about an offensive line group, they all have to work on gelling and making sure they’re on the same page. “ I will say this: they’ve got a heck of an O-line coach that’s done a heck of a job with them. So far, so good. We come out here tomorrow with the pads on. Now we continue to roll.”
  15. Chiefs training camp team practice Day 5. Don’t see OL Mike Remmers (back), RB Darwin Thompson (reserve/COVID list) out here. Ben Niemann (hamstring), Nick Keizer (back), Kyle Long (knee), Malik Hereing (knee) at rehab tent. S Armani Watts (foot) back to work today with helmet.
  16. Lucas Niang also had a great series of repetitions, as he faced both Frank Clark & Chris Jones.
  17. Now Kaindoh getting some plays with the 1st team D , coming from the right side. Explosion popped out on a pass-rush rep #Chiefs Darius Harris nice INT in coverage on Travis, fought with Kelce to secure the pick #Chiefs
  18. PA rollout, Kaindoh beats Niang and blows up Mahomes’ path to roll out #Chiefs Frank Clark just worked Lucas Niang. 8:38 AM · Aug 2, 2021
  19. Nate Taylor @ByNateTaylor The training is looking at & stretching Juan Thornhill’s right leg. 8:01 AM · Aug 2, 2021
  20. Willie Gay with a GREAT interception , jumping in front of a deeper throw where Mahomes tries to rifle it in there. Great play in 7v7 #Chiefs
  21. Ron Kopp Jr. @Ron_Kopp 3 TE set with Kelce , Gray and Bell. PA fake , off his back foot Mahomes gives Kelce a chance on the sideline and he brings down a tough catch in coverage #Chiefs
  22. #Chiefs 1st team defense running on air. Darius Harris in at MIKE as Hitch shadows behind play. With Sneed/Ward on outside, two CBS shadowing their spots are Hughes and UDFA DiCaprio Bootle. They also had Bootle shadowing Sneed in slot in Dime reps on air 7:38 AM · Aug 2, 2021 from St Joseph, MO
  23. Frank Clark’s contract It feels like common knowledge at this point that Frank Clark is expensive, but it still feels shocking every time to look at the actual numbers. Clark has the single biggest cap hit this season of any defensive player in the NFL. He’s got the biggest cap hit of any member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. He’s No. 7 overall of any NFL player as Clark Hunt is on the hook to pony up $25.8 million for Clark’s services this season. Here’s the crazy(er) part: Clark is owed $500K more than that next season and $2 million more in 2023.
  24. two things to note here: One: On the open market, it appears that Houston was worth more than the $4 million the Ravens will pay him in 2021. So he was willing to take less than his market value to sign with the team he wanted. Two: Despite clear fan sentiment to bring him back, that team wasn’t the Chiefs. So if Kansas City was among the teams talking to Houston about a one-year deal, it likely would have been for substantially more than $4 million — which the Chiefs have already demonstrated they aren’t willing to pay for a one-year rental of an over-30 defensive end. In 2021, the Chiefs will face the Ravens in a Week 2 Sunday Night Football game in Baltimore.
