Smart teams use statistical analysis to compliment what they see. Both are invaluable and ignoring either puts you at a clear disadvantage. From a fans perspective it’s just something else to talk about.

All analytics have to be taken with some grain of salt, but ignoring analytics is plain stupid. And DVOA has proven itself a very consistent indicator of who is legitimate and who isn't. When you are as dominant as the Patriots defense has been, there's simply isn't any statisical way of looking at it even with SOS incorporated where they won't be ranked extremely high. But as you said the more data (more games) gives better data points.

Atkins is just a superior player though and far more consistent. Also under a managable yearly contract for 3 more seasons where cutting him would be no problem. Williams you'd have to resign and give a hefty guarantee to a guy who's been incredibly inconsistent. I'd take Williams for a mid round pick for sure. Just not anything early.

Geno Atkins is a far superior player. Why not just trade for him? I think we are adding big bodies that can hold up double teams next to the playmaking Jones and they think that will be good enough. It's that underneath coverage that still massively concerns me both from the linebackers and corners.

The Patriots defense is really good by the way and I’m not sure what measure a team giving up less than a TD a game shouldn’t be ranked number one regardless of opponent. This isn’t college football. As for the Chiefs what we know is if Mahomes and the offense around him is relatively healthy, we score 26 points or more regardless of who the opponent is. We will be loaded with playmakers on Sunday night around Moore with the healthiest this skill position group has been since week 1, quarter 1. If we can’t score 26 give both the Packers credit and understand Moore probably played like a 3rd stringer.

Packers have given up a lot of yards but that’s deceiving. They are ranked 7th in DVOA defense which better measures how they play when it matters. 8th in points allowed. You can see their new DC has them flying to the football and making plays. They aren’t great by any means, but are a legit top ten group. By that same token the Chiefs are now ranked 13th in DVOA defense. A monumental improvement as well! If we can finish in the top half of the league by this measure and have a relatively healthy offense, we can beat anyone and win the Super Bowl.

Not buying he’s any upgrade over Watkins. He’s older, drops more passes, misses as many games and brings a bad attitudes as well as drug issues into the mix.

Interesting when they say Matt Moore took most of the first team snaps that most people assume even in the media the MVP took the rest. But what about Shurmer? Isn’t it just as likely he got some work in with the 1s? I have no idea either way. Just found it curious nobody asked. And to that end there appears some gamesmanship here

Agree. I think he will be inactive. But might have to move the timeline for a comeback to Minnesota instead of Tennessee. Because of the quick actions of our medical staff, this injury just isn't that serious. There's no way Mahomes is doing anything that doctors have not cleared him for already.

I was there too! I remember walking across that bridge from the stadium to Honky Tonk row and a huge bar filling up with all Chiefs fans in about 10 minutes.

If you are going to line up and put 8 guys in the box and leave Hill, Hardman and hopefully Watkins lined up with no safety help, any QB should make them pay. I just can't see anyone thinking this strategy would work with our weapons. If Watkins plays it will be the first time all season we've actually had our full roster or RBs and WRs available. But I guess until Moore proves he can get the ball downfield a little bit, anything is possible. I'd actually open with a few play actions early and get those safeties thinking. No doubt most of our passing game will be the underneath routes and easier reads and throws for Moore.

We were better vs Denver but certainly not Houston or Indy. In fact our complete lack of an inside pass rush in either game could have made the difference. Reality is Jones was graded out as our best player on defense by a wide margin until he got hurt. And since then its been Frank Clark the last two games. Get those two going together and keep developing Saunders and hope we get some real help from Mike Pennel in the running game and maybe we can have some real progress against better teams. Corners aren't great but playing better than most expected. Safeties have a chance to be top ten by the end of the year as Thornhill learns on the fly. LBs can't cover anything and will be a problem underneath all year against QBs and coordinators who know how to take advantage.

Agree. That was the most dynamic defensive performance I’ve seen from a Chiefs defense since Hali, Houston, Berry and DJ were all playing in their primes. Spags saw something he could exploit and made his players believe they could.

People don’t understand how big of an advantage Arrowhead is when the Chiefs actually have a defense to capitalize. With a bad defense home field advantage doesn’t exist. We need an attacking play making defense that can stop the run. And with our offense we’d never lose at home.

Rashad Fenton also has the 2nd best kick returner average in South Carolina history. We've got plenty of kick returners. Also should have a full group or both WRs and RBs for the first time all season if Watkins is back. Just no need for DAT no matter how much Dave Toub likes him.

Disagree completely. You don't want to do anything to downgrade our roster right now. And that would do it. The Chiefs have all the leverage here with that tag after the season.

I don't think there's any way this defense has suddenly figured it out, but we can dream. I think we saw a glimpse of what's possible when they do and hopefully we see more and more of it going forward. But I think we need more speed at LB, another pure coverage guy and a lot of maturation from our DTs to consistently hold up double teams to really make a big jump as a defense. That just doesn't happen overnight. When our offense is healthy, we don't need any more than a mediocre defense and that gives hope to this year. But in the short term we are suddenly asking for the defense to be a catalyst with the MVP out. That seems like a dicey proposition.

I wouldn't put $5 on it either way. He's got a hammy and it seems like he should be very close to returning. It's essentially a contract year for him so I would think he's gonna do whatever it takes to get max production. But this guy lives in his own world. At the very least we just have to hope he's healthy at playoff time like last year when he came up big. We are SO much better when he and Tyreek are both on the field.

Should be the return of the MVP in the Music City. Gonna be a TON of Chiefs fans there. I'd consider buying them but we've got about 10 people interested.
