  1. I can’t see him signing for that but I do understand your point. For us it really boils down to Thornhill. If he’s back our top four safeties are all under contract and at most we would be looking for a 5th safety/special teams player. That’s certainly not Berry. If there is concern about Thornhill it certainly helps Fullers case for getting extended here. And yes it’s possible if we didn’t retain him we’d look for a stop gap. But again we swallowed massive cap space because we didn’t think we could ever count on him again. It would seem odd to change that tune now.
  2. I know the coaches were not happy. It’s just rare a player is cleared and won’t play. And his contract is still killing us which tells me that the doctors had no confidence they could heal this enough he would consistently play so we swallowed so we just ripped the band aid off. It would be very odd to bring him back and now after coming to these conclusions even if we did need a safety, which I don’t think we do.
  3. It’s not Berry’s fault he got a bad contract. But I get the point that throwing good money after bad at a position we have no real need doesn’t make sense. Especially with tight CAP situation we are in, in part because of that contract. What really bothers me about him is that from a very reliable source I was told he was cleared to play in late October and just chose not too. It was brutal having to carry a roster spot for a guy that coaches had no idea if and when he’d play. Not sure what changes here. Even if he had some procedure we moved on and upgraded. Best safety group we’ve had here in a long time already. He’d have almost no chance to start. Just not a good fit.
  4. There’s no way with injury he has that he can hold up for an entire season. Anyone who signs him will have to play the same game we did. There’s a price to that which goes beyond money.
  5. No doubt. But maybe better said teams can at times overvalue a 40 time. Speed certainly does matter but not as much as good film evaluation from scouts.
  6. Anyone hear Mayock say tonight he was hoping Josh Jacobs would run a bad 40 time last year? Speaks volumes about how teams will just throw out some of these performances that we think are so important. They know they like the player and don’t care.
  7. Pass protection is the bigger issue for RBs playing early for Andy
  8. Ive heard media guys that saw him practice say it was obvious the kid was special even before he really played
  9. I know several people who have done this. And it didn't work for either. Really an odd thing to do minus some type of addiction or something that one of the parties has recovered from.
  10. The way he completely disrespected and lied to Eric Bienemy, I can't see any way Andy would ever bring him back. That said the Browns said they intend to tender him.
  11. I don't think so. I think any offer on the table that would restrict a players ability to get to free agency such as RFAs and any Tags like this automatically hit the CAP when offered. (or in this case probably when it can first be applied)
  12. At the start of FA all teams must be and stay under the 2020 salary cap. Only difference between offseason and the actual season is that in the offseason only the Top 51 contracts matter. But that really doesn’t help much.
  13. No question Veach has a plan. We’ve got a ton of FAs and can’t sign any of them without cutting or reworking several other guys. I’m sure this is all coming by the March 18 DDay for being under the CAP. But this tag does somewhat hamstring him in a very tight CAP year.
  14. It means he counts against the CAP when FA starts. What ultimately happens isn’t relative short term so Veach will have to create space. Also if we extend him, even if we really lowball his first year salary, he’s still gonna cost at least 5 million in 2020. Much more manageable than 16M, but we can’t save the full amount without trading him.
  15. Since they still had two weeks to get a deal done it would seem the sides are far apart. I expect some cost cutting moves to be announced quickly.
  16. Sounds like they are still messing with how it would work. The season used to start Labor Day weekend but because ratings were always weaker it seems they prefer to stay with the later start date. With two byes and an expanded playoffs the Super Bowl when then be played mid or even late February. The new schedule will almost certainly create more of a gap in schedule strength with 1st place teams in the AFC likely playing first place NFC teams and so on although there was some talk about regional matchups. Again though it sounds like they will figure this all out later if approved. Only thing off the table appears to be playing all the extra games Internationally. ..
  17. He’s 29. If he’s good enough to get a first rounder from someone else (he’s not). Why not just keep him for 5 more years? There’s no reason at all to even consider trading him unless he’s not good enough.
  18. James Palmer ✔@JamesPalmerTV Expectation is for #chiefs S Juan Thornhill to be ready for the start of the season. When he gets going during training camp is still TBD. I’m told his ACL injury actually turned out to be in better shape than expected when the surgery actually happened. Good news. 615 12:36 PM - Feb 25, 2020
  19. Eric Fisher has 9 million in Dead Cap this year if he is moved. So we lose our LT who we went undefeated with and save only 5 million on the CAP? Thats nuts. Nobodys giving up a top ten pick for Jones either and he is worth it.
  20. Another thing to consider is how each team evaluates each particular draft. The Chiefs only gave 1st round grades to about 16-20 guys last year so moving out of 29 was much easier to do. This year according to Brett Veach there’s 10-12 more players they are likely to give a first round grade too.
  21. Baseball is still very popular regionally. But because people don’t watch games that don’t involve their own team it’s bad for the game’s popularity when your team is out of contention early and often. More playoff teams is.an unnecessary move out of desperation though. Meanwhile the NFL has no such issues so this is pure shortsighted greed to capture more money in this round of tv contract negotiations. At some point this will hurt the sport.
  22. Understand your point. But looking like a tight end and actually being able to play TE are completely different issues.
  23. Yep. Re Build this oline from the inside out over the next 2-3 seasons.
  24. We are the defending champs and trying to rebuild the roster where it’s not necessary right now makes no sense. It’s why I think C Jones will be back. They want back to back Lombardi’s and see it as very possible.
  25. Exactly right. The common school of thought in league circles had been that they are so far apart a work stoppage was inevitable. Now I’m seeing what looks like more common ground than division. I’m very interested to see an actual response from the NFLPA to know where they are really at here.
