kkuenn 3,614
Chiefs and Jets agreed to trade terms for LB Darron Lee, league source tells ESPN. A 6th-round pick in 2020 for Lee, per league source.
kkuenn 3,614
2016 1st round pick, 20th overall. 5th year option declined by Jets so he will be a FA in 2020. Bet we probably extend him.

Well Lee is 232 pounds so he probably plays the William's or O Daniel role. Be good to have depth then whoever he takes for a spot.
kkuenn 3,614
https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/player/27270/ Ourlads' Profile: 2016 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about DARRON LEE: Ohio State, 6006 232 4.47. Junior entry from New Albany, OH. Started 28 games over his career. In two years he was in on 147 tackles, including 27.5 for loss. He scored three defensive touchdowns in his career. In the 2016 Fiesta Bowl he made 7 tackles, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and a quarterback hurry. Normally reads and fits the inside holes well. Has a quick punch with his hands and can get separation. liquidfriend 1,151
Think this happened really fast once the Jets canned the GM. He's pretty cheap depth and quick and perhaps Reid Jr. can build him up some so they can get a higher 2021 comp pick in return.
kkuenn 3,614
Good coverage LB, not great against the run. Seems to be another O Daniel? Graded out good for pff. Reading on him a bit, seems to not like to make contact at point of attack. Hopefully a change of scenery and being able to play in a new system works for us. https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/darron-lee/10654
Mloe68 1,521
I’ve been complaining about our lack of diversity and coverage ability at linebacker for a while. Nice pickup by Veach. Improving former first round young guy too if they can get him to buy in could become good starter.
liquidfriend 1,151
They could kick Lee in at weakside, Hitchens at Mike and just gotta figure out strongside after that. Trade Ragland for some big league chew.

I was worried that Rags would get a shot to start there. He is just depth now, if he sticks at all.

kkuenn 3,614
William's will be SLB. DOD I believe is the better pass rusher out of him and Lee but Lee is the better pass coverage guy. It may come down to situational at times but whoever can show they can defend against the run may take the starting spot. Lee should have an edge right now due to experience itself at the LB position and game time play

He’s gotta get that piece before I’ll pile on accolades. But if he does, it’s been a pretty extraordinary offseason for him.

Sucks that Mo Claiborne is the best available FA CB.

I could be wrong, but this is how I interpret the building of the defense. There's going to be less emphasis on edge rushers. We are going to stock guys in the back 7 that can cover and knock receivers off of routes, but also speedier guys. This in turn leaves me believing that there's going to be a bit of creativity within the defensive scheme, going back to my first point about less emphasis on pure edge rushers. I'm thinking a Steelers style defense, cover the receivers, disguise your blitzers, and run varying zone blitzes to try to keep the QB uncomfortable. I don't look for this team to be overly stout against the run, but much improved from last year, I'm guess in the 15-20 ranking league wide. I think it's going to be vastly improved against the pass, and this whole thing is by design. Our offense is going to score points. Lots of points. I think the overall plan here is to win track meets, as we have an unreal QB who is a year more experienced, so the goal is for the offense to take the opposing running game off the table, while the defense creatively finds ways to pressure the QB, and get nasty on the turnovers. I could be wrong, but this is just how it seems to me the plan is falling out.
sith13 1,746
Front 7 went from nonexistent to decent relatively quickly. Now if Veach can fix the secondary we should be in for a SB run.
