Power Rankings- Preseason Week 2

Recommended Posts

Not that anyone cares but still, I thought it interesting to read the blurb on each team and see how opinions ("Analysis") vary.

RANK #4 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense looked mortal in their preseason tuneup against the Steelers. The reigning NFL MVP finished 2-of-5 for 11 yards in two fruitless possessions. You may remember -- or Steelers fans may still be trying to forget -- Mahomes throwing six touchdown passes last September at Heinz Field. Is there any reason to worry in K.C.? Of course not. With Tyreek Hill a full go, the Kansas City offense will enter 2019 as an unholy terror. The addition of speedy second-round pick Mecole Hardman, who had a TD catch in each of the first two preseason games, further complicates matters for opposing defensive coordinators.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

Who's on the hot seat: Sammy Watkins, WR

Why his seat is warm: Watkins' 2020 contract has a cap charge of $21 million. The Chiefs would save $14 million of that by releasing Watkins. Kansas City, which is facing contract showdowns or extensions with Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Chris Jones, could very well need that money. So Watkins needs to be more productive in 2019 than he was last season, particularly since the Chiefs drafted wide receiver Mecole Hardman with their top pick this year. -- Adam Teicher

#4 Kansas City Chiefs

Defense should be better suited to new coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's philosophy and will benefit from arrival of multi-faceted DE Frank Clark. But secondary questions linger. K.C. caught a break with resolution of WR Tyreek Hill's situation, but that doesn't mean QB Patrick Mahomes can replicate off-the-charts MVP numbers.

2. Chiefs (No. 4): The non-suspension of Tyreek Hill keeps the Chiefs in position to topple the Patriots

No CBS.com since it mentions the "looming suspension of Hill".....

Ditto for Sports Illustrated

It is interesting. I have nothing to add.  I no longer think there is much logic sports reporting. All the preseason stuff will be forgotten once the season starts.

Hell we were ranked below the Broncos in some of these last year. Interesting to read the blurbs but matter not much for anything else. Use to have my Broncis fan bring these up all the time, like last yeat lol. Man he hates them now or conveniently forgets to bring them up lately.

Yep. Preseason is completely irrelevant when looking at any team rankings. First team offense struggled most of the preseason last year and then went to LA in the opener and hung 38 on one of the leagues best defenses and of course a historic year. We've got a target on us now. So does the MVP. That's uncharted territory that has different challenges than before. We will see how it works out. But for our Power Ranking to change in the preseason without losing a starter to injury is laughable.
