What I’ve gathered on Frank Clark and his stomach issue: - They’re trying to get him as comfortable as possible - He missed practice yesterday and today - Team Docs have found a specialist for him to now see to find the issue. - They're unsure if it’s virus related

Teammates did not think he was going to play vs Patriots - The plane ride to New England was "terrible" - Sunday showed Chiefs the "warrior" Clark is - Everyone I've spoken with d

There is a norovirus going around in the community.  Those are viruses that cause a nasty gastroenteritis.  Most likely, that is what he has.  It is self-limited, but a lot of teammates could also get it. Hell, any of us could get it at any time. There is a LOT of it this fall. They used to call it "intestinal flu" even though it is not an influenza virus.  Most of the weakness and horrible feeling comes from losing fluids and electrolytes.  Last weekend, I am certain they gave him all of his lost fluids back and the electrolyes he had lost with an IV before the game.  They will do the same Sunday if needed. I hope he wears Depends under his uniform, or at least hope the field is muddy.  Maybe he can squirt through the line and get to the quarterback, or at least flush him out.

That would be a crappy performance.

Really?  You know a trainer isn’t a doctor.  And a general practitioner doctor often refers people to specialists. Haven’t you ever been referred to one?

According to Football Outsiders, the Chiefs defense ranks 6th in pass-defense DVOA and 13th in overall defense DVOA. Kansas City ranked 26th in Defense DVOA in 2018. Football Outsiders also shows that the Chiefs have played the hardest defensive schedule in the league this season.

I think we all know we’ve still got a few weaknesses on defenses that some teams are better equipped to exploit.  But this defense is really starting to grasp scheme and playing with a general competency that we haven’t seen in years and has given the 2019 Chiefs a Super Bowl shot despite regression in the offense because of the oline she running game.

And injuries on the O-line

Aside from Wylie or Wiz (which it’s a toss up who’s better), the oline is healthy now.  Problem is our interior line just isn’t very good and the worst of the three vs New England was by far our highest paid LDT.
That said MAYBE they can improve some with more time together.

That said another reality of Sunday is that Mahomes was bailing from clean pockets several times and throwing off the back foot when it wasn’t necessary.  His drops are too deep which puts more pressure on them. Part of learning curve of young QB where teams are picking up tendencies and making things harder on him. IE: He can help his struggling oline too.

Excellent post Mloe. I hope Reid and co. is working on this with Pat and the oline. Somehow, Pat has to try and find some trust in the oline. I know thats a whole lot easier said than done but, man it's really obvious that the performance of the oline and Pat's trust in them is affecting this offense.

And if we see it....So does the rest of the NFL.

Just speculating here, but I always wondered if LDT would remain motivated enough to put in the excruciating physical work needed to remain a high level O-lineman when he has a long career in medicine in front of him.  It may not pay quite as much, but it is a lot better gig, and you can do it for decades.  Maybe it has taken an edge off his performance.  Just wondering, but I wondered if it would happen fairly soon, even when he was playing at a high level.

Watching LDT, he doesn't lose 80% of his snaps like Reiter and Wylie though. It's more like 40%.

I thought LDT was simply underperforming his contract but last week anyway he was by far our worst olineman according to the film analysis by Seth Keysor allowing 6 pressures. Those other guys are cheap band aid types and yes they certainly play like it. But for the money we are paying him, he may be hurting us the most (other than Cam Erving who can be cut with zero dead money this offseason).

Always possible. He had a pretty significant injury last year as well which perhaps he hasn't fully recovered from. Either way we can save 5 million by cutting him this offseason. This will be interesting to watch. I think the coaching staffs perspective of his motivation could be a key here. It's possible he could be sitting on a rebound year with a healthy offseason. But with a 9 million dollar CAP his next season, he's clearly on the cut line.

Mahomes addressed this issue in a presser this week.  He admitted that he needs to work on some fundamentals in footwork and his drops.  Not sure if he fell into bad habits due to the O-line issues or maybe he always had them and the league has caught up.   On factor is that he couldn't play like last season with a bum ankle and dislocated knee cap.

I watched some clips of last season compared to 2019 and he’s doesnt look like the same guy. Still good without any doubt, just not the seemingly care free ultra elite guy from 2018.

Lots of reasons for this but I just call it part of the learning curve. Can you imagine a few years ago having a QB have a down season with about 4,000 yards and 30 TDs, 6 INTs  in 13 starts?

I honestly don’t know what the chiefs have hired in house. They don’t know the difference between eric fischers groin and knee, your guess is as good as mine.

The only doctor the Chiefs have in house plays right guard.

The deep drops are where he’s at his best. If we are gonna do three step drops to throw four yard passes we should’ve just kept Alex.  Mahomes is elite when he’s improvising and doing the ad lib , and playing the quick drop game to protect a bad line completely eliminates a massive part of the game of the reigning mvp.
