Chiefs need an answer to teams that play man coverage.

Andy has to dig deep and he has to understand that if teams rush 3 or 4 guys and drop 7 into coverage. YOU MUST RUN THE BALL.  Patrick Mahomes is great. Now imagine if teams also fear the run game. UNSTOPPABLE

Defense will come around. Struggling against man coverage is what scares me.

Agreed...but Reid often forgot about him as well.

17-5 in the regular season with Mahomes at QB. 1-1 in the playoffs. Ill take that year after year. Eventually KC will get that Superbowl win. Reid is doing extremely well. This game the offense just did not get it done. One Game One Loss....

The answer to man coverage is Tyreek Hill.

I'm going to throw it out there...we miss Kareem Hunt

Both true.

Kareem Hunt used to get some tough yards and was hard to bring down. He also was really good catching the ball out of the backfield. He was better than Damian Williams, McCoy and everyone else the Chiefs have. That's all over now, but it's still possible to get corrected IMO.

The Chiefs aren't running because the lanes aren't there.  They need to figure out why it ain't happening

We tried to run for 1 yard at the most crucial part of the game but it got completely blown up

Hunt was a man coverage killer because he was so dynamic on the wheel route.  Now we have a journeyman castoff rb in Williams who is pretty average, a young guy with limited upside, an on the wrong side of 30 guy who carries the ball like a loaf of bread, and a speedy defender turned rb.  Our rb group is by far the least talented of all groups on the offense, and the answer to losing hunt was to extend an average rb and bring in a couple of old ones.  This is why I just can’t get mad at Reid being pass happy this year, we have the leagues best qb and an uninspiring group of rbs.  I’d really like to see us grab a rb at the back end of the first round next year to round out the offense.

Fully healthy our line is just a tad above average.  With multiple backups on the field it’s downright bad.  Pair that with a group of average at best rbs and you have no running game

We’ve got solid bookend tackles that are essential to make this offense go. Fishers absence should make people appreciate him. We are overpaying.LDT, breaking in Reiter and still not sure what we have there and have a backup quality guard starting on the left.  But truth be told we had a historically good offense with this formula last year.
In short nobody may hold bigger key to our season than Fisher.

You are correct.  Also though, you can’t deny that Schwartz hasn’t been as good as years past.   Fishers absence makes our left guard situation more glaring.

The G position is one i hope we address in FA. Need a solid guy to go right away. Center i can see us trying draft. Next years list of G for FA is not to bad.

Need to run the ball more consistently. McCoy didn't see the field after the fumble. He lit it up on the screen pass. I think he's been fine. Williams will need a week to get his feet under him again you could tell he wasn't 100% fit. Darryl Williams, was used seldom after he lit it up in Detroit last week. Give him the rock.

Think having Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins playing would help any?

Man coverage works well against their back ups it seems.

It's going to be tough.  You beat man by getting an extra second of pass protection to let your speedy WR's get free.  Right now we have Erving being a turnstyle to Mahomes and Pringle/Drob/Hardman can't get open quick enough enough though you do see flashes of it with these guys.

Once we get Fisher, Hill and Watkins back healthy, that man to man coverage is gone.  Teams will have to put safeties over the top to protect from Hill and that exposes everything underneath which Mahomes feasts on.

Getting Watkins and Hill back does more than just add competent wide receivers.  It also allows you to keep tight ends and backs in pass protection,.

Still think we did not do anything to slow down the pass rush.  Not enough runs and definitely not enough screens.  Too many seven step drops.  Kept going for the big vertical plays.    That 4th and 1 that got blown up.  Just Houston was not blocked at all. If Irving got a hand on him and slowed him down by a second, we pick up the 1st down.

Forgot, was Sherman I’m on that play?

This.  Missing Hill and Watkins had no bearing on yesterday.  Any defense that plays man relies on pressure, because no matter how good your secondary is, man coverage will break down if a qb is allowed to stand in the pocket for more than a few seconds.  The Colts recognized our line issues and gambled playing man.  That defense plays a ton of zone, but with our leaky line, they gambled that the pressure would break through before the man coverage broke down, and it worked.  Every single problem offensively in that game boiled down to the offensive line and it's inability to block, whether it be run or pass.
