Clarity after reflecting

Recommended Posts

Last night, although there were a couple glaring opportunities, this team showed us why they can win the Super Bowl.

OFFENSE-

The collection of talent at the skill positions is legit including both tackles when healthy.

WR Group A+

OLine - is only going to get better by subtraction. Wiz and Rankins are better than their predecessors.

RB- as a group is solid. Would be better if Andy would just pick a guy a let them build steam. Time for Thompson. It can’t hurt.

TE- Is only as good as Kelce. And frankly, I’m a little disappointed so far. Lots of key drops. Maybe showing age.

Defense- has a lot of great parts. Once they start working together, I think we are going to see a good group. Reminds of the Saints defense on their run. That group came together at the end of the year and came up big. This side of the ball isn’t in dire straights. And the guys flashing are the young ones.

Dline- stellar in the Passrush department. This line is super deep. These kids can play. Saunders is a star in the making. Kpass is doing exactly what we all said he would do if given the chance. I think they are doing their part in stopping the run now. Lb’s need to show up.

Dbs- admit it, as a group they are really good. Ward is looking great. Thornhill is also gonna make a pro bowl sooner rather than later. Fenton looks good too. Safety is a strength. We’ve held down some big time wr’s so far.

lb’s- clearly the biggest weakness on the team. They can’t cover. They don’t really tackles. Take the leap and play DOD.
But, Ragland is balling! A year late, but he’s breaking out big time. And Wilson looks like the real deal.

specials teams- not too special but switching to Hardman was the right call.

Coaching- I really like  Spags, he makes changes, he try's to make in game adjustments.(which he did well last night after 14-0)  And he has fire.

Andy- I’m not going to beat the dead  horse and  It’s not a popular take, but Andy must improve. It’s the same things over and over.

he said he had a gut feeling last night punting... um, is he watching the game ? Honest question.. before the punt, GB’s previous drives were 3 straight scoring drives ... you were just beat in the same manner just a couple weeks ago. there was nothing to lose.. no one expected that game to be close. I pray he doesn’t cost them a super bowl. And the clock management still blows.

Biggest challenges-

1. Get healthy

2. Lb - sign a lb or figure out some coverages with DOD and watt, and stop playing Dan.

3. Unpopular- but fair , Andy. Andy needs to pay attention to the big picture on the sideline. IMO

I had the argument about that punt with a coworker today.  He kept giving me the speech about how you play the percentages and punt because if you don't convert, Rodgers is going to score and now you're down 14.  He was being stubborn as hell, because my entire point was 7 or 14, if Rodgers gets the ball back the game is over.  His justification was injuries and Moore being under center.  So what?  I don't care if he is a third string QB, he's still an nfl QB, and he played a pretty good game.   The run defense is atrocious, and if you try to sell out against the run, Rodgers is going to check at the line and make you look silly.  I just knew when we punted that the game was over.  I dont know the exact numbers, but it felt like GB was ripping an average of 6 yards per carry on the final drive.

The part of that whole thing that really gets me is, would you rather have Moore try to convert a 4th and 3, or would you feel more comfortable with him trying to run the 2 minute drill if our defense had gotten the stop?  I think from that aspect going for it made the most sense.  If we convert, he's still got 5 minutes, so there's no major rush and that keeps the pressure down on the QB a bit.  Andy Reid is the most bizarre coach in league history.  Some of his decisions are just mind  boggling.  He will literally do the opposite of what makes the most sense at the weirdest of times, and thats a huge reason why he's never won a super bowl.

I'll be the first to admit that I can get caught up in the moment and I was very critical of the D early on and Veaches choices.  I still think Veach has to get better but I think we finally have a defensive staff that can develop our younger guys and the opportunities they have gotten with injuries is showing that development.  That is great to see!   We are a talented team when healthy and we are still dangerous when non fully healthy.   I won't get my hopes up too high because the Chiefs have had a way of crushing those in the past but this isn't one of those teams.   My two big concerns are Andy getting in his own way and getting too cute because he has so many weapons.  Sometimes its best to have 2-3 options and dance with the ones who brought you, but far too often he calls up plays for (DAT, Bell, etc) in key moments that cost us.   His decision to punt is indefensible really.   Our D was gassed, Shady Mccoy's fumble started that trend and you were playing with house money.   But I wasn't expecting us to win that game and only got as upset as I did because we had a really good chance of winning it.

Keep Mahomes upright and we can all enjoy the next 10-15 years as a Chief fan!

Could have run it twice for 3 yards. Or kelce could have made a catch ;) Lots of things. With pat I do think Andy would have gone for it.

IDK Cali, I've seen some improvement in the D the last couple of weeks I'm just not quite as hyped. I do like the New Orleans comparison though. Dalvin Cook, Diggs, Thielen, etc will be another test but I like them getting battle tested by some good offenses. NE has faced the 32,31,30,29,24,20,19 ranked offenses. We might be as good as them with that schedule. ;)

It’s the pieces of d that I’m really talking  about. It’s getting them all out there.
jones, Clark, saunders, badger, thornhill, Ward, Felton, Wilson, ogbah, okafor , k pass...

there are a lot of good players
