The Kansas City Chiefs roster will look much different in 2020. A closer look at some draft-eligible replacements for potential departures from the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing what may be the most important offseason in franchise history. Cap space is limited, so Brett Veach and the crew in Kansas City will need to draft well to fill some important roles for the organization.

Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones need new contracts. Kendall Fuller, Emmanuel Ogbah, and several other role players are playing on expiring contracts. As of this writing, the Chiefs have less than 500k in projected cap space for 2020. Kansas City will have to lean heavily on the draft to replace their depleted roster.

Brett Veach will have to make some tough decisions. Sammy Watkins, Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff, Daniel Sorenson, Damien Williams, and Alex Okafor are all earning a lot of money and failing to live up to it on the field. Each could offer potential cap savings if Kansas City moved on.

Chris Jones has continued to show that he deserves a payday, the question is whether or not that will be in Kansas City or somewhere else.

The Chiefs cannot afford to limp through another season with a partially competent defense and an inconsistent supporting cast for Patrick Mahomes. Thankfully, the 2020 NFL Draft appears to be deep at positions of need for Kansas City, including some players that could be upgrades over potentially departing players.

Let’s take a look at some of these fits.

Yeah we are top 10 in cap space. That number in the article is total bullshit.  Plus the cap will be raised league wide a couple mill like it is every year.

And the fact we will cut Watkins, Sorensen etc to free up even more cap.....

Obviously it's not exact but we have Hill + Clark + HB + Okafor actually start counting against the cap next year so we are already around the limit assuming the cap doesn't go up considerably. Departure of Watkins, Sorensen, Erving will add to the cap and it'll go up with a few on its own so we'll have decent cap space but the number mentioned is generally correct.

No, it isnt generally correct. The number provided in the second post is correct and includes all those increased numbers.

The original post states we have less than 500k available in 2020. Its incorrect.

Sorry I thought you were referring to the numbers you quoted. They probably forgot the carry over but shouldn't make such a mistake when writing an article.
