Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy may be staying put, but the man considered his heir apparent could be on the move after the conclusion of the 2019 season.

According to a new report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are expected to request an interview with Chiefs’ QB coach Mike Kafka for their vacancy at the offensive coordinator spot. Philadelphia made the decision to part ways with their offensive coordinator of the past two seasons, Mike Groh. People have taken notice of the success that Kafka had with Patrick Mahomes the past two seasons and view him as a natural candidate to become an offensive coordinator.

Pederson is familiar with Kafka because he coached him in Philadelphia as a member of Andy Reid’s staff during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. During t he 2011 season, Pederson was Kafka’s position coach. They haven’t yet coached together before even though both players came up through the Reid coaching tree.

According to Rapoport, Kafka would fulfill a similar role to that which Bieniemy fills with the Chiefs. He wouldn’t have the playcalling duties in Philadelphia, but he’d have input and help with the preparation during the week.

The Eagles haven’t yet formally submit a request to interview Kafka, but that could happen in the coming weeks. Rapoport also noted that Reid could block Kafka and offer him a promotion in order to keep him around. He is considered to be next in line for the offensive coordinator job, once Bieniemy moves on to a head coaching position.
