JMO but I think his best years are behind him and I dont think he'd come cheap enough but if he wasn't worried about  the $$ and strictly into t the chance of a Ring.. I'd say  work him out and see.

would he fit in a Spag's scheme is what I dont know

Agree. We are probably more in the market for a 1 year prove it deal for a guy coming off an injury or bad season like B Breeland than a big name who's probably going to be overpaid. Draft a corner in round 1 and make a decision on Fuller who I'd keep.

Yeah I think we got back to the well on those 1 year prove it/ship deals while we draft a cornerback.   Who got hurt in preseason last year that we had hopes would develop into at least a backup.   We are gonna needs bodies and I wouldn't mind bringing him in if he's chasing a ship but if he comes here for like 4-5 million wouldn't we rather have Breeland back for 4-5 million more a year?  I'd rather have a known commodity that probably will play even better next year if he stays.

But do we need to do that?  I know that's the conventional wisdom... throw a first rounder at the problem.

But outside of Mo Claiborne, this was our DB room, and I think we can all say it was a strength not a weakness:

Juan Thornhill - 2nd round

Kendall Fuller - 3rd round

Tyrann Mathieu - 3rd round

Bashaud Breeland - 4th round

Armani Watts - 4th round

Jordan Lucas - 6th round

Rashad Fenton - 7th round

Charvarius Ward - Undrafted

Keith Reaser - Undrafted

Daniel Sorenson - Undrafted

In 8 years he has made 65 million.  Will depend on how well he has managed It.

which means after taxes and agent commission, he probably has about 20 mill, assuming he was good at saving money.

It was okay this past season, but take out the FAs and it looks very weak.  Breeland is gone in my mind and even if the Chiefs retain Fuller, they need the new guy.  A CB in the first make perfect sense if they don't have to reach for one.   I agree that they're okay at safety as long a Thornhill recovers in time.

My point was you don't necessarily have to use a first to find talent.  Most of those guys are pretty good and none of them were 1st ed picks, FA or not.

Always BPA in the first.  Never force it to fill a perceived need.

If a good corner drops great.  But only make the pick if the grades are there.

I'll stick with BPA in an area of need.  If the best player is a QB or Safety, pass on him and get the CB, LB, or IOL.  I agree it doesn't have to be a CB in the first, just that it's a position where the Chiefs need a starter.

It was better than ok. This team was 8th in pass defense. And just arbitrarily subtracting Breeland makes no sense either. He may love it here and be a priority for us.

And why would you take out the free agents? Why not take out the trades as well? That eliminates Ward and Fuller. Hell take out the draft picks too. We have the worst secondary in the league now. Fuck. What do we do?

Well yeah duh.  Nobody drafts kickers in the first except the raiders.

technically we can call it a first round pick, but I see it as a high second

sometimes you gotta trade up to get an important position of need

like MVPat, and like SF did with Bosa... neither team is in the SB without them

I see your point that one can find value in FA or lower picks... there's no doubt about that

the question in my mind at least, is what is our biggest 'position of need'?

IMO we need LB, secondary (CB and S), and OL

I'm thinking we can use free agency for both the OL and LB corps, as well as to replace anyone we lose on the DL to FA

I agree we can find value in the later rounds... especially at LB

IMO CB and S are our most important needs... which should be our prime focus in the early rounds

what made the Pats so great for so long, is player evaluation... how they found value in FA and in the later rounds

I think Andy and Brett are up to the task... and considering we're a champion, and how many great FAs are out there who want a ring... it's gonna be a fun offseason

Meh we can use more talent at every position group except QB or specialists.  WR, for instance, doesn't appear to be a big need but consider the contracts, that it takes a couple of years to get Andy's system down, and that we can maximize Pat's talent by keeping the skill positions loaded.  When you hit the playoffs, we've seen our top guys constantly doubled.  Having your 3rd, 4th or 5th best targets be guys you can rely on has been huge for us.
