kkuenn 3,597
https://clutchpoints.com/patriots-news-cam-newton-signs-one-year-deal-with-new-england/ The New England Patriots seemed resigned to a quarterback competition between journeyman Brian Hoyer and 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham. That changed on Sunday evening. 00:12 / 06:49 00:00 Next Video The Secret Behind Kawhi Leonards Uncle Dennis Cancel Autoplay is paused Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the Patriots have signed veteran quarterback Cam Newton to a one-year deal. Newton will likely head to training camp as the favorite to win the starting job, though the Pats will also be hoping for a clean bill of health. Schefter also reported the deal is “incentive-laden.” The Patriots were one of the teams thought to be in the mix to sign Newton after the Carolina Panthers cut him. But salary-cap inflexibility made it seem somewhat unlikely they would be able to finalize a contract with the former league MVP. Newton’s health issues also seemed to loom large. The 31-year-old had shoulder surgery at the end of the 2018 season, and a Lisfranc injury ended his 2019 campaign after just two games. Still, this would seem to be a winning move for the Pats as they transition from the Tom Brady era. Aside from experience and past production, Newton also offers more in terms of his mobility in and outside of the pocket. The Panthers hoped to limit his rushing attempts in the last few years, though he still managed nearly 500 rushing yards during the 2018 season in addition to completing nearly 68 percent of his pass attempts. The Patriots figure to administer their own physical prior to completing the signing, much like the Atlanta Falcons did with running back Todd Gurley. But Newton has been working tirelessly all offseason to prove he is healthy and ready to go and should come to camp as hungry and motivated as ever. ATLchief 3,126
Verrrry interesting. Not terribly surprised. I've been hearing this as a prediction for quite some time.

xen 1,010,219
Yeah I saw that. Not really surprising. I felt all along that if they really weren't going to pick up a stopgap QB it was them signaling they were tanking for Trevor. Nobody really thought they were putting all their eggs in the Jared Stidham basket
bamaroyal 87
I hope Scam Newton shits the bed for them!
sith13 1,746
Makes a lot of sense for both sides. Newton needs a solid team to push for a new big deal and Pats need a QB that can actually play in the NFL as opposed to Stidham or Hoyer. I doubt Newton will be a major boost for them but still could push for the playoffs.
oldtimer 8,685
according to reports it was the Pats or the Browns as they were the only 2 teams even interested..easy choice
jetlord 10,208
Had sports radio on while driving this morning and the national talking heads were slobbering all over this. Cam for the Pats and Brady for the Bucs closes off all competition for the rest of the league. Superbowl tams already decided. oldtimer

DieHard 2,061
I think he will really help them, but why? Do you want 10 or 11 wins next year and bumped in the wild card round or tank a solve your QB problem for the long term? It feels like an ego by Belly. Bill, brother, let’s talk. Out performing Brady next year is not the goal.
