Spags on Gay's playing time

My only issue with projects is your half way through their 4 year rookie contract before they generally are paying dividends, sometimes only in their final year.  Meaning you have to decide whether to give them a big contract on one year and their projected ceiling.   Kpass is a great example.   We spend a 2nd rounder and get maybe (depending how this year turns out) 2 years of production and to be honest its avg at best.   We've done that with 3 picks in the last couple years and 4 if you add Hardman to the list.

Well, KC is always picking low in each round and believes in their ability to coach guys up, so don't see this changing any time soon.  If it helps, the draft is a crapshoot anyway, so no guarantees even if you get a guy that's ready to play.

And we have been hitting on later picks too plus UDFA and even FA.

I think many here are overreacting about Gay's playing time.  He has natural ability but very limited college experience and Reid isn't going to put him in just because he was a second day pick.  Two years from now is a better time to judge whether the pick was worth while.
