6 winners and 3 losers from Sunday’s win over the Saints

Le’Veon Bell: The veteran running back has been gradually working his way into the offense — and into a committee with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. This week was Bell’s most effective game so far, averaging over four yards per attempt and scoring a touchdown on an option play with Mahomes. The big headline from this game was a scary-looking injury to Edwards-Helaire, which immediately elevates Bell’s role. They’ll lean on Bell for the next few weeks — and he’s looking like to be up to the challenge.

The Chiefs are bringing in Elijah McGuire for a free agent visit.

In the wake of the injury to Clyde Edwards-Helaire on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t wasted much time in bringing in some potential reserves with news that free agent running back Elijah McGuire will be coming in for a visit to Arrowhead, per Field Yates.

McGuire should be a familiar name for Chiefs Kingdom due to the fact that he was on the roster just a year ago. Brett Veach, the team’s general manager, signed McGuire to the Chiefs practice squad last November.

Even as far back as the 2017 NFL Draft, McGuire was a prospect who interested the Chiefs as they interviewed him even then. From there, the New York Jets were the team most willing to invest as they selected him in the sixth round that year. McGuire would spend more than two years with the Jets, and it was there that he put up his only official stats at the pro level, with 180 carries for 591 yards and 4 touchdowns in 24 games of rotational duty.

Yeah, I thought the same thing last night watching highlights of the game. Signing Bell was a stroke of genius or luck. The right guy at the right time, indeed.

More luck than genius.  They tried with McCoy last season and that didn't work out so well.  Give Veach credit though for being on top of opportunities and running a team that FAs want to play for.
