The Panthers will interview Chiefs assistant director of player personnel Ryan Poles for their GM opening.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the interview will take place on Wednesday. Only 35, Poles has been with the Chiefs since 2009 and in his current position for three years. Anyone connected to Andy Reid is going to be a hot commodity this interview season.

To bad we could not get draft picks for GM that was hired.

I think this is a fair new rule.  If you hire a coach or front office employee away from us, then we should be able to send 1 player and their contract along.

For example.  You get EB and Hitchens.  Or Ryan Poles and Sorensen.

Nieman would go b4 Dirty Dan

Yes we would.  If Poles is hired as a GM this offseason we'd get an extra 3rd round pick.  This is assuming EB is hired.  So 2 hires from your team as either GM or HC in the same offseason you get three total 3rd round picks.  If Poles gets hired next offseason though  we'd get two 3rds for him instead of one.  Clear as mud?

The announcers were talking quite a bit about how Herbert was learning quite a bit from their OC and that showed on the field, i thought that the team would give Lynn one more season so as not to stunt the QB's growth. Spanos couldn't help himself and now they have to find a new Staff that will not set the learning back...As a Chiefs fan i love that the chargers could possibly fuck up a good thing yet again. Guess time will tell.

Totally forgot about that. Thanks.

The gist of the resolution:

• A team that loses a minority assistant coach who becomes a head coach or loses a personnel executive who becomes a general manager will receive third-round compensatory picks in each of the next two drafts.

• A team that loses two minority staffers to head coach and general manager positions would receive three third-round picks.

Poles is not the only front office executive that the Panthers have an interest in. They’ve also requested an interview with Chiefs Director of Football Administration Brandt Tilis for the GM vacancy.

If Tilis sounds familiar that’s because he’s one half of the salary-cap duo along with Chris Shea, that helped orchestrate the incredible work structuring the monster contracts in Kansas City, such as the half-billion-dollar deal with Patrick Mahomes. He’s not so much a personnel evaluator as he is a money-man, so that could be appealing to a team like the Panthers that appears set to give HC Matt Rhule roster control.

These types of things are to be expected when you have a winning team. Thankfully, the Chiefs have a number of in-house candidates who they can promote to help offset the loss if either Poles or Tilis were to be hired for the GM job in Carolina.

If someone from the front office becomes a GM for another team, would they carry all the draft data the Chiefs have piled up this season with them?

No that's proprietary information.   But you know, I'm sure accidents will happen...

true and I'm sure someone would pack his bags for him.. that being said one's teams needs are different than  the others so how much  could that info really be beneficial?

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Chargers have requested permission to interview Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy for their head-coaching vacancy. The Chargers are now up to six interview requests since firing Anthony Lynn earlier in the day: Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus (Requested)

Fangio is staying and helping to pick the GM so probably not.

All is not lost

Not much has gone right since that Super Bowl win. On Monday, after another losing season, Elway announced he was removing himself as the team’s general manager, giving up control of building the roster. He’ll be in charge of hiring the team’s new GM.

John Elway gives up personnel role

The team announced the moves in the front office, including Elway stepping down from the GM role. He’ll be president of football operations in 2021 and hire a GM “with full authority to oversee the personnel and football departments,” the team said.

Agreed.  But he did assemble a pretty good defense also.

Yes via FA but paid the price in not being able to sign the majority of his 2nd year contracts. This dried up the well really quickly plus he could not draft a QB to save his life.

They absolutely went all in at the time with Manning at QB.  And QB's and coaches have been his El Guapo ever since.

FA signings too. He was up againat the cap and could not resign many if his own FA. He would then go out and spend or trade big money on a QB or RT that would not pan out. I think at one time he had 3 QBs he was paying for and not even on the team.

He lost out on many good players they could not resign and had to let go who did good else where. The guy without Manning would have been done a long time ago.
