Mocking an offseason

Palangi

Recommended Posts

Resigned:

Daryl Williams RB. Congress back as solid depth

Byron Pringle WR. Is a RFA.

Taje Sharpe WR. Hopefully he does something here at the end

Remmers OL. Quality depth

Taco Charlton DE can be a solid starter

Kpass DL. Bring him back a depth at DE and pass rush inside

Rashad Breeland CB. Congress back to keep continuity.  Will be pushed though.

Antonio Hamilton CB good depth and good special teams

Free Agents:

Ethan Pocic C. 4 years $33 million. Starts in Seattle. But Lewis has played well at center for them too and if they don't have to pay Pocic then they let him go.  Only 25 still.

Draft: we get a 3rd for Bienemy then a 4th and 5th for Fuller and Ogbah as comp picks.  And we got a 6th rounder from Miami for our 7th and Washington.

1. Simi Fehoko 6'4" 220 Stanford WR- big, long, and fast.  Is projected to run a 4.3 forty. Gives us a big WR to use in the redzone.  Replaces Watkins.  Has very good hands too.

2. Darian Kennard 6'5" 345 Kentucky OL- a RT at Kentucky.  Kicks in to RG in the pros.  A mauler in the run game but a very good pass protector too. Didn't give up a sack last year.  In the SEC too. Had very good length also.  Day one stater.

3. Hamsah Nasarildeen 6'4" 215 Florida state S- a Sorenson replacement.  More speed and length to help guard TE's. Has a lot of potential.

3. Jabril Cox 6'3" 240 LSU LB- long athletic LB. Transferred to LSU from North Dakota State.  A SLB to play over TE's. Great length.

4. Charles Snowden 6'6" 245 Virginia DE- has played OLB in their 3-4 scheme.  Very good edge rushers. Has tons of length.  Has a frame to get up to 260. Can be a pass rush specialist his first year.

4. Spencer Brown 6'8" 330 Northern Iowa OT- a project tackle to replace Fisher.  Is very big,  long,  and athletic. Has played RT but is very athletic and would be good on the left also. Has 35" arms. Has a 500lb bench.

5. Trey Mcbride 6'3" 260 Colorado state TE/FB- a Sherman replacement.  Good blocker.  Better receiver.  And can play special teams too.

5. Kyhiris Tonga 6'4" 340 BYU DT- Pennel replacement.  But a better pass rusher.  Physical kid.

6. Zach Davidson 6'7" 245 Central Missouri TE- has potential.  Can develop for a couple years behind kelce and Keizer.

QB- Mahomes, Henne

RB- CEH,  Williams,  Thompson, Mcbride

WR- Hill, Fehoko, Hardman, Pringle, Sharpe, French

TE- Kelce, Keizer, Yelder, Davidson

Fehoko does not play like a 4.3 guy.  I would be really surprised if he runs that fast.  His routes need a lot of work as well.  I'd rather have a guy like Amon-Ra in the 2nd.  or Olave.  Overall I like the player but I don't think he would go this high.

I love Hasah Nasirildeen.  Great pick.  Dirty Dan replacement except he has really good movement and coverage skills.  Lays the wood.  Needs development but the 3rd is a good spot for him.  I am concerned if he tests well he could go higher though.

Kinnard is also a good pick but might be there in the 3rd if teams don't think he can play tackle.  I'm a bit torn on that.  For us, I agree he's a guard.  He may not come out early though if he gets a projection from the NFL of 3rd round or later (they only project 1st, 2nd or later than 2nd).

Jabril Cox I'm not sure about.  Similiar skillset to Gay, but then where do you play him?  If Gay moves to Will, and Cox can't play MLB, do you spend that high of a pick on a Sam that will only see the field 15-20% of the snaps?  It may be a couple years before he's ready to play nickel.  Great player though and I guess you can't have too many coverage linebackers now days.  He might be ready for the nickel by year 2.

I'm beating the drum for KADARIUS TONEY

https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/2021-nfl-mock-draft-crabbs-4.0

32.

Chiefs

Kadarius Toney

WR, Florida

I know. I'm a monster. But I really appreciated what the Kansas City Chiefs did last offseason as the reigning Super Bowl champions—they doubled down on their strengths. And with the Chiefs facing some difficult salary cap decisions this offseason, stocking the cupboards for Patrick Mahomes once again makes sense. Wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson are on expiring contracts, so there's certainly room for reps for a rookie wide receiver. Toney's electric playmaking skills are unparalleled after the catch this season and thus he's a delightful complement to Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and the rest of the Chiefs' diverse playmakers.

I like Toney too. I was thinking of getting a bigger guy to compliment Hill and Hardman.

At worst Fehoko will run a 4.4. He lives where I am from and has been working with aWR coach on routes. Kids is much better than you think.  And will rise after his combine workout.  He will have a 40" plus vert too.

Think Chase Claypool type receiver. His YAC is very good also

he is slightly "bigger" than Hardman altho maybe a 10th slower in the 40 and with savings of $600K as a post June 1 cap cut it pays for itself and use the Watkins savings for some one not soo brittle and be bigger  wr

Yeah Toney screams Hardman 2.0.   I wouldn't be surprised if Hardman isn't resigned after 2022.   He's a great gadget player but I don't ever see him moving past a solid #3 wr.  We need an X receiver with speed or more importantly ability to separate.   Not heard much about Fehoko but he's got the size and possibly the speed.   What I worry about is using our 1st on a wr, knowing that it is very difficult to learn the play book and get on the field.

Love getting a center via trade.   I proposed maybe trading for Jason Kelce with a low round pick but I like not trading away picks.

In all honesty if we could find a center that way, we could utilize the draft for more BPA.   We would technically only need to find an immediate starter at LG/RG.  I still think we should do what you do and find Fisher's replacement somewhere in this draft as well.

Toney has no idea how to run routes and has suspect hands.   Electric player though.  He may have trouble in the slot if he can't learn to beat press.

now I m not going to claim I have seen all the games but I dont recall seeing him drop many.. I'd say more of a Tyreek  lite that a Hardman 2.0  JMO  tho also  I think we can get him in the 2md rnd

With Schwartz maybe done and Fisher possibly in his last season next year, I think the Chiefs should give OT a high priority.  They don't know what they have in Niang and it could be that in 2022 they will have two players protecting Pat from the tackle positions that aren't on the team now.  Sammy might be resigned.  He won't have that much value with his record of missing games and he wants to play in KC.  Last Sunday was encouraging in that Saunders, Baker, and Ward looked near ready to play big roles next season.   Ward and Taco could eliminate the need to draft an EDGE early.  Baker could start opposite Sneed.  A starting OC is mandatory but could be had on day two.  If Osemele comes back and Rankin is healthy, the guard positions may not be so critical, especially if Durant can be trained up at that position.  He looked pretty capable at guard against the Chargers considering he hadn't played there before.  Keizer is a loss and the Chiefs will have to draft a TE at least by mid rounds.  If Collins falls to the Chiefs, I'd love to see him and Gay in a couple of years.  Hitchens and Gay will start next season, but Hitch probably has only one more year.

Bug difference between that and a 4.3

4.3 is Mecole fast.

4.4 is half the wideouts in the NFL.

Still don't think he sniffs round 1.

I do still like the player, just there are better receivers who should be available at 31 if that's the direction we go.

Fyi CBS mocked Spencer Brown to us in rd 1.  Love the player, probably too early on him as well but could be a great tackle.  Massive and athletic.

so who's more right? the last sentence.

The Chiefs Should Invest in Developing Offensive Tackle Spencer Brown

JORDAN FOOTE

Spencer Brown - OT, Northern Iowa

By the numbers:

6'8", 314 pounds per Senior Bowl measurements.

Did not play in 2020.

Positives:

The most noticeable thing about Northern Iowa's Spencer Brown is his rare blend of size and athleticism. He has elite length — even for an offensive tackle — and moves extremely well for a big man. He's comfortable pulling and has a great understanding of angles and how to make the most of his swiftness in space. Brown's athletic profile is one of the best among all offensive linemen in the 2021 draft class.

Brown is a violent player who brings a mean streak and an element of "nasty" to the field. He has strong hands and greets defenders with long arms and a firm jolt at the line of scrimmage. He routinely finishes plays through the whistle and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Brown always looks to wipe his assignment completely out of the play. The basics are there for him to become a really good tackle in the future.

Negatives:

While Brown posted some impressive reps in college, he isn't ready to start at the NFL level. The jump from the FCS, combined with his rawness as a player and not having a 2020 season, makes him a draft-and-sit candidate. He lacks consistency and still needs to improve his leverage against shorter defenders, among other things. Brown has immense potential, but patience will be key in helping him unlock it.

Despite having a relatively strong upper body, Brown doesn't set and hold a great anchor. Adding strength to his legs and overall frame will assist him in holding up against more powerful defensive ends. When facing quicker edge rushers, he relies on lateral movement that just isn't quite good enough by itself. Brown is more of an open field operator and should develop a sturdier base to make him more well-rounded at the line of scrimmage.

How Brown fits with the Chiefs:

The Chiefs' need for a tackle remains legitimate — especially after releasing Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz. Signing Joe Thuney and Kyle Long certainly helps the offensive line picture, but not on the outside. Brown is a great future fit in a zone-run scheme on a team that will get him on the move. The Chiefs make a lot of sense and have a system that will maximize his value while also filling a potential future need.

Final Thoughts:

Brown's length and athleticism simply can't be taught. He needs at least a year to learn and develop as a player but if his first NFL team is patient with him, he should make them very happy. He has a sky-high ceiling and is worth the investment for a team like the Chiefs. Brown grades out as a fourth-round pick who could eventually make a lot of teams jealous for passing on him multiple times.

He will go in round 2.  Or at least day 2.  That kind of size and athleticism isn’t making it to day 3.
