Lookin like a pure shut down corner. Physical on the release, glued to the receiver on every play, and tackles like a straight thug with nothing to lose.

And no one wanted to sign him last off season. Glad to have him 💯

I'm starting to wonder how much is Spags.  Ward, Fenton, Breeland, and Sneed all just ball.  Seems like that can't be an accident.

He won't come cheap next year.  Without the suspension hanging over him and with his effective play, consider him gone.

Chiefs invested a lot in position coaches and looks like it's paying off.

Not sure if Breeland makes the big money this year with all the cap issues but should definitely warrant a long term deal with his performance after the suspension.

The Chiefs could draft an upgrade over Ward.  Sneed, Fenton, Baker, and new guy works for me if the new guy can step in like Flowers, Carr, or Peters from day one.

Cap being reduced to 180 million will make it hard for him to net a big contract.  He could still come back for a reasonable amount.

If that applies to Clark, why not Ward?

Because the Chiefs didn't invest a huge bundle in Ward.  He gave back much more than the Chiefs had in him and that should be appreciated.  My thing with Ward is that he seems to have peaked and on too many plays he's not finding the ball or ends up chasing the receiver.  He's not a liability like Bartee or Battle, but if the Chiefs are to have an elite secondary, they need an upgrade.  Ward is still cheap and the team will probably keep him around for another season unless they can trade him.  Sneed is a #1 corner.  Fenton is looking better every game.  If Baker can play close to first round level, the Chiefs may have struck gold there.  One mid round draftee that Veach pulls out of his magic hat would make Ward expendable in 2022.

He certainly dropped an easy INT yesterday. But he's not costing us as much as some of those other guys

As Az mentioned, Romo made several attempts (with replay) to show the Chiefs had the Bill receivers blanketed....

He once again referred to the coverage as "sticky"....

Chiefs D is very underrated.

w

which makes me feel better going into Tampa.

If chiefs can, keep all and see what you can do with Breeland. Our back end is so vital to our defense success that any weaker link will be exposed. Another way is to bolster d line.
Either way as many have mentioned our young guys Veach has brought in are balling and getting coached up.
I think the atmosphere Reid has created an S addictive and lends itself to players wanting to make themselves better.

Breeland - cheap free agent (5 mil over 2 one year contracts)

Ward - cost us Parker Ehinger who was out of the league the next year and mostly bounced around practice squads since.

Fenton - 6th round pick

Sneed - 4th round pick

Baker - freebie

Veach remains a goddamn sorcerer.

Consistency, coaching, leadership and players buying create an atmosphere that produces and gets the most out of players abilities.   Our D does more with less than just about any other NFL defense.   There aren’t 2-3 first rounders on the dline or secondary.  We are drafting well outside a few 2nd round reaches and making up for it with late round and udfa gems.    We get them in and HB, Hitch, and Frank maintain the attitude and order and these young guys are stepping up big time.    We are going to be better next year on that side of the ball....let that sink in.

Spags, Daly, House, and Madison are killing it!

Keeping Breeland would be huge for next season, but there's lots of teams looking for proven CBs and the Chiefs are up against the cap.  If Gay pans out, the defense is only about one good edge rusher (Taco?) and a stud LB from having an above average D.  Maybe replace Sorenson if he gets too expensive.
