Just before Super Bowl LV, the Chiefs have placed left tackle Eric Fisher and linebacker Willie Gay on injured reserve, elevated wide receiver Marcus Kemp and quarterback Matt Moore from the practice squad to the active roster, activated tight end Deon Yelder from injured reserve and signed linebacker Chris Lammons from the practice squad to the active roster.

oh for the love of pete...

bet you were the high school debate team captain runner up

If you'd like to tell me which of these 7 losses (taking out Mahomes "ankle games") were primarily and specifically the result of bad run defense as opposed to bad overall defense and/or turnovers and other miscues, then I'm all ears:

2018
43-40 @ NE
54-51 @ LAR
29-28 vs. LAC
38-31 @ SEA
37-31 vs. NE
2019
35-32 @ TEN
2020
40-32 vs. LV

I'll do the work for you: the only one you really have a case for is the TEN game, and we still (1) gave up a fumble return TD, (2) let them take the lead on a quick last minute scoring drive that was primarily passing, and (3) had multiple miscues on our own offense and special teams that could have sealed the game or at least sent it to OT.  So the run defense hurt but we had plenty of chances to survive it.

Or you can go with an inaccurate and uninformed insult.  Your call.

One more summary:  my point is not that it's totally irrelevant to have a bad run defense.  It hurts to be bad in any phase of the game.

My point is that of all the flaws this team has or could have, it's the most survivable one.  That is contrary to historical conventional wisdom, but fortunately conventional wisdom  is changing.  And this team's specific history from 2018-2020 also supports the idea that we only lose when we shoot ourselves in the foot on offense and/or get burned by the pass just as much as the run.

Therefore, per the topic title, it's not a key to the game.  The top two keys are passing well and stopping their passing game.

As the grand exhalted, fair and impartial judge of all things football related, I have to agree with Adam here.  They are not gonna beat us running the foosball.

If we lose it will be because (most likely culprits in order):

We self destruct too much on offense, too many drops and turnovers

The line doesn't hold up to 4 man pressure

We can't pressure Brady combined with one of the previous 2 things

Brady’s contract with Satan calls for 7 superbowl wins instead of the 6 we thought it contained

Hamburgers don't show up on time for the pregame meal

Brady sneaks in and switches out our cleats and we come out wearing high heels

Mahomes gets shot by one of those pirate cannons

Meteor hits our sideline

Run defense

or, instead of saying all that (damn you guys are long-winded) just say:

If TB successfully runs the ball, we lose.

xen's keys to winning:

1. when we get the ball we should try and score points.

2.  We should try and score every time we have the ball, not just some of the time.

3.  When the other team has the ball, we should try and keep them from scoring.

4. When the other team has the ball we should take it away from them

5. When the other team has the ball, the defense should score.

6. When we kick the ball we should take it away from the other team.

7. We should return kicks for scores.

Sorry xen didnt look like you where done.

Sure I suppose if everything else on my list happens, including Mahomes getting murdered in the face by pirate cannons, they could then run for the win.

Hours and hours of hype tomorrow before gametime. Does anyone watch it all?

Guess I should be more interested... just can't get into it

Been watching replays of the Chiefs games this season... and the playoffs from last year... and the SB

probably what I'll be watching tomorrow before the game

BRING ON THE GAME

Yeah, I have no interest in the hype. The endless, multi hour pregame is the worst.

I won’t turn on the tv until kickoff. Nothing before that is of the slightest interest to me.
