KCSLC2008 605
I love using Excel and Pro-Football Reference, so I made a spreadsheet for our QBs best games, stretches of games, and what he needs to match or set career highs. I plan on doing one for Jamaal Charles and perhaps Dwayne Bowe. Three things: 1. Yes, his career highs are low, yards, TDs, and INTs. 2. Most of the good career marks are recent. 3. Yes, it was ultimately a waste of time, but I did it relatively quickly. 4. Figured sharing it might lower the wasted part of it. Stats to follow (assuming the kids don't make me have to leave for dinner).

eraser 722
I love your optimism. I hope Alex can do as you say. It will be a challenge. He doesn't have much support from the offensive line, and he won't get much help from the receivers. Here is what I believe will be important for Alex Smith, and the KC offense to be successful. 1. Getting rid of the ball quicker. Alex cannot afford to hang around and wait for something to come open. He won't have the time. 2. The Chiefs need to run more 2 TE sets. Kelce needs to turn it up. 3. Charles and DAT will need to be a big part of the receiving group. Getting these guys in space will help take the pressure off Smith. 4. Avery and Bowe need to have better years. The Chiefs need at least one other WR to step up. 5. Our OL needs to stay healthy. They are definitely not deep. 6. Smith needs to be creative, but not get himself into trouble. 7. The Chiefs need production from their other running backs. I believe the Chiefs can line Charles wide in some formations. He is probably one of the better receivers on the team. KCSLC2008 605
What I posted wasn't a prediction, so it can't really be "optimistic" or pessimistic. Smith's last regular season game was the Colts game, so that really messed with the numbers. For example, if you take the last 6 numbers of a group: 24 36 28 32 26 12 That 12 means you have to play 6 games at a level higher than 12 to escape it if you are making a best 6 stretch. That 12 is the Indianapolis regular season game. If the order were reversed, it'd be easy. Just play one game. That was in 2011 when he replaced the bad games. KCSLC2008 605
I wasn't going to do this because the game was so bad, but I figured I would have done it if he had great numbers, so I have to show the good and the bad, right? In the last game, he set his 9 game best of 17 TDs (most TDs in 9 games). Also, 15 games and 16 games rushing bests for attempts and yards. He also made it impossible this year to beat his lowest INT total for 16 games (2). Will follow with Week Two.

KCSLC2008 605
In the Broncos game, he set his: 3 game best of 125 Rushing Yards, 6 game best of 195 Rushing Yards, 10 game best of 17 TDs (didn't exactly do anything for it). He set his 15 game best for 3374 Passing Yards, 16 game best of 3597 Passing Yards, and 16 game best of 484 Rushing Yards. Will follow with Week Three later this week. I think I will only post what bests that are possible. For example, with just 216 yards, he can set his 9 game best of Passing Yards. Yes, I know, he didn't set the bar high. Again, ignore if you don't care.

Not true, I don't think. I think it must have been against teams who score over X points or at worst, playoff teams (though I still don't think that's true). And most QBs have bad records in those games (over 24 points or so by opponents) but not that bad per se.

KCSLC2008 605
I commend your effort to prove how mediocre he is. He had a very average game yesterday and someone on here said he played exceptionally. That bar is low. I meant to do this for Charles, too, but after his 7 rush game and the early exit, it seemed like he wouldn't get enough touches to challenge his high bar he set. I don't agree that Smith himself is mediocre, I think he's average to slightly above average who can play well. His stats are mediocre. With Reid's pass happy system, his numbers will be higher than before. If the oline gels and/or we get a good receiver, his numbers will reflect his average to slightly above average self. From there, it's up to Smith to become more aggressive. Reid is getting to him a bit. I said this on another thread, but while we saw so many dink and dunks last year that 10 yard attempts seemed deep, we have had more 10 yard attempts this year - though his currently low completion percentage on two-three second passes keeps his YPA low. Once the oline gels, percentage will rise and YPA will bump a little bit. Won't see big YPA jump until receivers improve. Shrug. As said, I like stats and excel. Smith is our QB, what am I going to do. I just decided to share my hobby.
