Sunday’s arrest

Clark was pulled over for an alleged vehicle code violation near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles, which is south of downtown, LAPD spokesman Tony Im said.

During the stop, officers observed an Uzi firearm sticking out of a bag in Clark’s car, Im said.

Clark was subsequently arrested at 9:20 p.m. Pacific Time for having a concealed firearm in a vehicle, a felony charge under California law, Im said. Clark was booked into county jail before being released at 2:30 p.m. P.T. Monday afternoon on $35,000 bond, according to a spokesperson for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

Clark has a court date scheduled for Oct. 18, sheriff’s department records show.

March arrest

At 11:45 p.m. Pacific Time on March 12, Clark and Charles Phillip Smith were pulled over on 223rd Street in West Carson, California, for failing to display a front license plate, according to an arrest report from the California Highway Patrol.

Neither the CHP report nor a department spokesperson specified whether Clark or Smith was driving the vehicle, a 1993 Toyota Supra.

During the stop, officers “observed, in plain sight, what appeared to be the muzzle of a firearm within a bag in the back seat of the vehicle,” according to the report.

The officers detained Clark and Smith before searching the vehicle, at which point the officers recovered two loaded firearms — one handgun and one rifle — the report said.

Clark was arrested at 12:11 a.m. March 13 under the same felony charge as the one he allegedly violated Sunday — having a concealed firearm in a vehicle — according to the report.

its apparent they just cant let him go without a Clause but being this is his 3rd Felony arrest..yes 3rd they might have an out

Back in 2019, Clark signed a five-year, $104 million contract with the Chiefs after he was traded off the Seattle Seahawks. If the Chiefs were to release Clark, they would take on a dead cap hit of nearly $25 million for this season and $12.9 million for next season, per Spotrac. While Clark does have two years remaining on his deal, he also has a potential out at the conclusion of this upcoming season.

looks like a real piece of work

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/chiefs-frank-clark-charged-with-third-felony-in-decade/ar-AALjLmJ

Chiefs star edge-rusher Frank Clark was charged with felony illegal firearm possession after police discovered an Uzi tucked away in a duffel bag in Clark’s SUV during a “routine traffic stop” in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, this latest infraction by Clark is just another in a long line of criminal behaviors from the 2020 Super Bowl champion.

Most recently, Clark was arrested in March of this year on another felony gun charge when California Highway Patrol recovered two loaded firearms from Clark’s car. Much like his arrest yesterday, Clark was released on bail less than 24 hours after being charged.

However, the felony gun charges are just the tip of the iceberg for Clark. While still attending the University of Michigan in 2014, he was charged with domestic violence and assault after an altercation with his then-girlfriend at a hotel in Sandusky, Ohio. Clark was dismissed from the Michigan football team after this incident. According to witness reports, Clark’s girlfriend’s brothers came out of the room screaming that Clark was “killing our sister.” Other witnesses reported seeing the girl unconscious on the ground while Clark screamed at onlookers. Clark claims that he never touched his girlfriend, but reports indicate that the woman had bruise marks on her cheek and red marks on her neck. Clark’s charge was reduced to fourth-degree disorderly conduct, with Clark completing a 25-week domestic violence course.

Just two years prior, while still attending the University of Michigan, Clark pleaded guilty to a felony charge of second-degree home invasion after stealing a MacBook Air from a dorm room across the hall from him. Clark faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $3,000 fine, but the charge was ultimately expunged under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which offers first-time offenders a chance to keep their criminal record clean as long as they complete probation. Clark was given a one-game suspension from the Michigan football team.

I see your logic but without knowing Houston or Ingram's salary demands  your last 4 words  are just an assumption. From what I could gather Ingram left the Chief's facility empty handed because of his salary demands, now if your assuming the Chiefs  release Clark will have $$ to spend  I'm not thinking they should pay Ingram the extra $$ just because they have it.. that is not sound economics.

The assumption is being able to get out of that contract thus voiding the cap hit altogether.  That would free up close to 20 million so even if you had to pay both 8-10 it would be a wash this year and then a 20 million dollar windfall next year which would come in handy.

Again not saying they should but if this illness of Clarks has really derailed his career this is gift from the football gods.

A Chiefs spokesman told McDowell the team is aware of Clark’s arrest but did not have a comment. It is unclear whether the Chiefs knew about Clark’s first arrest this offseason.

if he covered that up, he can be cut...i mean remember what happened to Hunt

whats that in real $$$??

His signing bonus was 19 million but according to overthecap.com 7 million of his 2020 salary was converted so there's some additional cash coming in which seems to be 20.4 million left in total. I don't think the Chiefs would be on the hook for anything else but there could be some non-voidable guarantees in his contract so I'm not sure how that goes.

Would he be cut under the "Personal Conduct" clause? I assume there is one in the contract. Even if there is, the team is still on the hook for the Salary Cap number, correct Xen?

I cant imagine that wouldn't be voided, if it's not guaranteed money.

Typically any player that is cut, the guaranteed money accelerates into the cap.  If done after June 1 the hit can be spread over 2 years.  Whether additional relief can be had depends on any offset language in the specific contract.  KC would have to show the player violated that portion of the contract and the union almost always files a grievance even then, which may take a few years in arbitration, and usually results in some sort of compromise.

This is different than the league process.  In that, he has violated league conduct policy which specifically mentions illegal possession of a firearm or weapon.  Even with 2 violations that likely would only result in counseling and suspensions from the league since it wasn't a violent crime.  Possibly he would be placed on the commissioners exempt list.

For Clark, his 2021 salary fully guaranteed in March.  Future guarantees may be able to be recovered though since there is an out built into the contract after this year.

Trade his ass if we must. Take the cap hit you would do with the trade and maybe what would be next year up to a certain amount.  Make it enticing to get him traded for a 4th round pick or some shit. Be done with him and wait for training camp cuts or a FA now like Houston yo sign. Next year draft a DE or get a FA one. Cap will rise a lot for us to be flexible but a HB extension would help even more.

Hunt was a completely deal.  He was on a rookie contract and could be cut at any time for any reason without the Chiefs having to pay guarantees.  Clark is due money whether he's cut or not and probably the Chiefs are stuck for this full year.  Until the legal issue is heard in LA, the league may not act so this could drag out until after the current season.  Too bad the Chiefs don't have a sanity clause in Clark's contract.  Why would an adult person drive around with an Uzi sticking out of a bag in the back seat of a car designed to attract police attention?  How many bright yellow Lambo SUVs are on the street.  How much does it take to hide the gun from someone looking through the window?  What are you doing that requires you not to zip up the bag?  Would having been arrested three months earlier for an illegal weapon maybe make one think to be a little more careful?

Two questions.  What would be Clark's trade value at this time.  How do the Chiefs get a top flight DE from the draft when they draft at the end of the round?  DEs with promise go early.

So we are fucked for 2021. Keep him and look like we are endorsing his behavior. Cut him and he still gets paid and we have no extra cap room to replace him.

DEs can be had later to develop, some slip too from time to time. Not all go early.  Also look at FA ones. You can also put Jones there and resign Reed, Nnadi etc in the middle. Plenty of options. Trade value say would say a 4th imo as per my post.

Damn i did not think the team could be on the hook for that much $$.

How many bright yellow Lambo SUVs are on the street.

Well it is LA so probably more than the average city

What are you doing that requires you not to zip up the bag?

Maybe he was anticipating having to use it sooner rather than later

Good Grief.  If you're driving in LA in a Lambo and thinking you'll need an Uzi so immediately that it can't be tucked away, you're problems are bigger than an illegal weapons charge.  That make of SUV can't be all that common, even in LA.  Who even knew they made SUVs?

I had no idea he was arrested for domestic abuse in 2014.... and kicked off his team.

And a home invasion?

Now this. What a fucking loser. Makes hunt look like a Boy Scout, and of course we shitcanned him immediately.

Fuck frank Clark. Dump him now and get some replacements.
