He needs an O-line, hell any QB needs an O-line. Brown getting walked backwards by Jones on One on Ones is not good. Looks like your ravens are preseason games warriors hands. Congrats. AFCWEST 1,238
“We had a couple guys out — and then we had a couple guys working in there — so I thought we did a nice job,” said Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. “99 (Khalen Saunders) had some good snaps in there, so he’s had a good camp.” Saunders played well after Chiefs defensive line coach Brendan Daly recently complimented him on a strong week at training camp. Saunders needed a good summer session to reaffirm his importance to the club, and he now projects to make the 53-man roster.

AFCWEST 1,238
Tim Ward: In an impressive performance, another young player buried on the depth chart added two sacks and five tackles to the defensive box score. Ward was able to time snaps perfectly and get to the quarterback in a hurry. He even clinched the game with a sack — something like a preseason Frank Clark. We have to wonder if the Chiefs will find a way to keep Ward around for yet another season. Mike Hughes and DeAndre Baker: We’ve been talking about the competition between these two — and Saturday night featured good performances from both. Hughes was active and physical in coverage — and it looked like he’s got juice in returns; his aggressive 40-yard kickoff return is just what Dave Toub wants to see. Baker played significant snaps on defense, nearly had a pick and generally looked the part. Maybe this is less about competition and more about two former first-round picks who will have a substantial role this season. Jody Fortson: The newly-anointed tight end put together a solid effort on Saturday — including a smooth one-handed catch and run in the final drive. The bulked-up former receiver had three catches for 32 yards during some quality tight end reps. He’s making sure the Chiefs will once again have difficult decisions to make during roster cutdowns. AFCWEST 1,238
The first play from scrimmage was an inside zone run that went for 10 yards and a first down. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire showed good vision on the cutback — but the lane was there because right guard Smith bulldozed the defensive tackle. Niang also got to the second level quickly, sealing off a linebacker so Edwards-Helaire could get the whole 10 yards. Bottom Line The first-team offensive line had a good preseason debut — but we should remember that the 49ers didn’t play any of their starters along the defensive front. Just the same, the Kansas City offensive linemen executed the running plays and kept their quarterbacks clean — but still have some lessons to learn from their performance. Best of all, the three rookie starters did not stand out by looking like first-year players. They all had reasons to feel good about their first game action. I was more impressed by the red zone short yardage pickup when they ran a man blocking scheme and powered their way to a first down. Next to last in league last year in those situations. I don't recall that sort of thing last year.

Fmbl2187 2,279
Over-reaction. Sometimes ones run with the threes for completely different reasons. The coaches know what Thornhill can do. He still needs to get his speed back up. He still is in a playing rehab mode. So much hand wringing around here without a shred of real inside information. I trust the coaches of a 14-2 team with two consecutive Super Bowl appearances and 5 consecutive AFC West titles to do the right things and evaluate where players are and what needs to be done with them. I saw a really good heads up play by Thornhill on Saturday. A near interception, if I remember right. AFCWEST

Fluid and dynamic, blitz coming along Rookie linebacker Riley Cole and running back Elijah McGuire sustained ankle injuries during Saturday night’s preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers. Both were present for Monday’s session, but did not participate in practice. But two players who were injured during Saturday’s game — linebacker Darius Harris, wide receiver Marcus Kemp (shoulder) — were back at work Monday morning. So were previously unavailable defensive end Taco Charlton (hamstring), Mike Remmers (back), Willie Gay Jr. (concussion protocol) and cornerback BoPete Keyes (finger).
