Texans released OLB Whitney Mercilus. Mercilus. Interested?

Texans released OLB Whitney Mercilus.

Mercilus, 31, was in his 10th season with the Texans, the only team he's ever known after being drafted 26th overall out of Illinois in 2012. He appeared in 134 games for the team, starting 102, and registered 57 career sacks, including three through the first six weeks of this season. We'd expected him to land on his feet with a contender as a sub-package edge rusher.

All we need, is to slightly improve on defense. Just slightly.

I mean, since Patrick became QB1, when we hold the opponent to 27 points or lower, we are 36-1.

Unfortunately this season teams are averaging 29.33 points scored. Turnovers are giving opposing teams extra possessions which is killing our defense

Im not good at player analysis.  Seems no downside to checking in. He has 3 sacks so far. I think that shows some juice left.

Yea that was sarcastic. We can't let Justin Houston ball out at Baltimore without doing something ourselves. They will beat us come playoff time

Texans released KR/WR Andre Roberts.

33-year-old Roberts inked a two-year deal with the rebuilding Texans over the offseason. He played 26 offensive snaps for Houston, catching a 35-yard pass on two targets. As a returner, Roberts has returned a league-high 18 kickoffs with a long of 38 yards. He was a Pro Bowl selection each of the last three seasons as a return man.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports the Chiefs have "strong mutual interest" in free agent OLB Whitney Mercilus.

Mercilus, 31, was granted his release out of Houston Monday and figures to land on his feet pretty quickly with a contender. Kansas City needs all the help it can get on the defensive side of the ball. Mercilus has three sacks this season and 57 in his 10-year career.

So I thought he was released vs will be released. Thus a trade could happen. From AA.

Whitney Mercilus and the Chiefs would have to wait for a potential deal first.

But here’s the thing: the Texans know what they are doing here and what can often happen is for a team to step up with a trade offer where there was none before in order to keep another team from getting him. Remember when the Patriots were going to release Stephon Gilmore or the Jaguars were going to let C.J. Henderson walk. Then suddenly there were trades for both after rumors leaked of the forthcoming release. Suddenly teams had to ante up or wait to make a pitch in free agency.

IIRC the trades were for not much..I'm not up on  what WM has left in the tank but I'd wager 6th would do it and worth it if Spags n company thought he would bring real value but then I'm not sure what this means either as far as salary cap

Him or Ogbah. I really like Ogbah, but I don't want to do more than the rest of the season contract really. If we could get Ogbah for a sixth maybe that helps. I don't think one average player will turn the defense around. We need to generate a pass rush with 4 somehow.

getting healthy will be half that battle

getting some depth is important too, but obviously we don't have a lot to fork out just for depth

defensive starters taking up half of our payroll, sitting on the bench since the first week of Sept, is the biggest problem
