oldtimer 8,685
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs superfan and Leavenworth, Kansas native Melissa Etheridge debuted a new Chiefs tribute song Wednesday. The anthem titled, Chocolate Cake, was dedicated to Andy Reid. Reid recently compared his desire to win a second Super Bowl to the act of eating chocolate cake at a press conference. Etheridge premiered her new song on the popular NFL Network show Good Morning Football. This content is imported from Twitter. That song isn't the only Chiefs anthem the Kansas native has been a part of. Etheridge actually performed the national anthem at the 2019 AFC Championship game, during the Chiefs now fabled super bowl run. Perhaps the new song is a good omen for the Chiefs Super Bowl hopes. Local businesses are already reaping the rewards of the Chiefs delicious success. The singer did more than just make an homage to Andy Reid's love of food though, she also tackled the Chiefs epic divisional playoff game. "When the going gets grim, you gotta be the grim reaper," Etheridge sings in the ballad. On a happier note, Andy Reid will be sure to keep us up to date on any culinary analogies too. The head coach's food references are becoming the stuff of legend. “They keep you young. And at the same time they make you feel old. It’s kind of like sweet and sour pork,” Reid said in 2020 comparing his nine grandchildren to food. No cake yet though, the Chiefs will have to take on the Cincinnati Bengals first if they hope to keep their Super Bowl hunger fed. artsy and nmchiefsfan
