Sometimes I think people respond acting like they know yet really don’t.

Pickens has a great freshman year and was off to a really good sophomore year too. Until he tore his knee. Was leading the team in receptions and yards and TDs. Until he tore his knee against Kentucky. Pickens then didn’t return until last year in the final regular season game against Georgia Tech.

so to say he want good last year is ignorant.

In the games I watched he ran really good routes. Obviously looked better before the injury but he came back too fast I think. Guy wanted to play so can't blame him.  Pickens is a high ceiling player.  I like him a lot.

I agree. I don’t think he was 100% when he came back.

Woods absolutely can play.  Dude plays above the rim amd goes and gets balls.  He needs work on technique and routes... most college receivers do but he can play.

Like I said, I haven’t watched the tape.  Just going on RGRs analysis last night.  According to them, he can’t separate, and has a minimal route tree.  But, he is a plus blocker and athletic freak.  And, could be a red zone threat because of his ability to high point.

i will have to find some tape.  Due to mucho overtime lately I just haven’t had time to study these guys like usual.

Even if he is as RGR says, he is still worth a day 3 flyer on measurables alone.

He's definitely not kelce but he's got some talent.  I like the Rucker kid but Ohio state tight ends scare me.  I couldn't find a ton of receiving reps but he looked pretty good to me.  They just never threw him the ball.

That's the deal... any OSU TE will be a hell of a workhorse on the line... because that's generally how their offense rolls.

That said... it's changing. Ruckert is a stud. Check out his game last year vs Clemson... he dominated. He can catch. Just needs reps.

I mean I get why they didn't throw him the ball.  When Jameson Williams has a tough time cracking your rotation you ain't throwing the ball to the fucking tight end.

Speaking of which, I like Jameson better than both of the OSU receivers this year.  How the hell did he not get playing time up there?   Did he just blossom that much in bama?

I been barkin' up the 'throw the damned ball to the TE' tree for years

My guess is JW was close... just not good enough to get the start. Hartline is the best WR coach in CFB... no way he overlooked a guy like Jameson.

Bama was soft at WR last year.... which is why he was able to step right in and become an All-American. Can you name the other starting WR at Bama without googling?  Bet you can't.

Both starters at OSU are household names for a reason. Gotta keep them both happy, which means neither of them reached full potential, like JW at Bama.

Burrow couldn't get the start over Fields, because their offense was geared around a mobile QB. Burrow goes to LSU... in need of a QB... and proceeds to win the HT and a natty.  Then becomes a pretty fucking good QB in the League.

Could he have done that for OSU? Doubtful. LSU was just better that year... especially on defense.

I actually have watched quite a bit of the Bama offense while looking at Jameson.  The other guy I like a ton in the draft as well.  He's super underrated.  Btw no googling, his name is John Metchie III.  Also injured himself.  Really smooth receiver.  Probably put him in the 2nd round range by watching him, but with no testing he may drop.

It was more of a rhetorical question... but I think you understood my point. There's a reason JW couldn't crack the 1st team (Wilson and Olave) and a reason he was All American at Bama.  Brian Hartline knows the exact reason, and the coaches aren't going to elaborate.

Hell, Smith-Njigba couldn't crack the lineup... he's gonna be the best in the NCAA this year. He's already broken more team records than any other receiver including Chris Carter and a pretty respectable list of others.

That said... weird shit happens... During OSU's natty year they had an unknown receiver named Mike Thomas who was barely used in that offense. The coaches loved them a running QB... which cuts down on pass attempts. What does MT do? Goes into the League and proceeds to wreak havoc. I was kinda pissed about that... but I'm just a dude on a couch.

Hard to flash at TE when you're playing at a mid-major.  🙂

Yeah that tyreek hill kid sucked ass.

Of course, I did say "most."  I was really ridiculing the current craze among sports writers to constantly describe players as "physical freaks."  Unfortunately, most of those players are not "freakishly adept at learning" or are not "freakishly motivated." or emotionally healthy or non-abusive.  And some go to teams that have freakishly bad coaching.  I really prefer that the term be dropped, because it has become a worthless predictor when draft time rolls around.

who's your college team? IIRC it's the tigers... how many natties do they have, again?

No, I follow Mizzou a bit because I live here, but have no emotional attachment to them.  My school was the one that didn't give athletic grants.  The team only got together as a whole on game days (if they didn't have a Sat. am lab).  Guess it's changed since because Wharton played there.

I can understand that. Football hadn't yet been invented when you went to college. 😉

Oh....I see the Chiefs are "in the mix" for Deebo Samuel. Is it just me or are the Chiefs in the mix for every free agent (or trade candidate) that hits the market?🙄

When you are sitting on two draft picks in each of the first four rounds and have the best QB in football, you only need create the impression that you are "in the mix."  Being "in the mix" makes other teams panic and spend too much on FA's.  Then, they are tapped out, and the Chiefs are the only ones left to snap up one or two of the few remaining FA's at a bargain in the summer.  Meantime, we build enormous depth with all the draft picks.  I have a sneaky feeling that we will get Ingram or Mathieu back in the summer.  But the truth is that I have no idea what Veach is going to do or has up his sleeve.  So much smoke and mirrors.

Every writer and talking head has to create stories.  Speculation about player movement is a favorite topic.  There's a big difference between actually interested in real life and "in the mix" in media world.

Most sports writers are pointless during the offseason, so they try to make up stuff to keep themselves relevant. The team with the best QB in the league with a whole bunch of draft picks and enough cap means they can be in the mix for every trade-able player or FA based on "their sources".

Its funny to read the draft grades on him.

How he'll fit on the Chiefs roster remains to be seen, but the team had both Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West play well in the absence of Jamaal Charles last season. It seems it will be tough for Hill to crack the roster as anything more than a No. 4 running back or kick-return specialist.

Grade: D
