Hunt is more talented than any back we have on the roster, but the past is too toxic in the modern culture.  If it were my decision, the PC crowd wouldn't phase me, it's that our refusal to run the ball has soured me on running backs.   I'm pretty much at the point we may as just use receivers in the backfield when we're not lined up empty.  There's no point in tempting the headlines for a player at a position that Reid won't use.

  • Hunt is at or near the end of his shelf life.
  • The current rotation of backs is more than adequate with this offensive line, which is only getting better.
  • Why pay for another RB to sit on the bench while Andy forces the pass against drop 8 defenses?
  • No doubt, the fiasco resulting in his departure left a bad enough taste that he will forever be unwelcome at 1 Arrowhead Dr.

What current rotation? McKinnon and Williams are free agents.

with Reid's history of rehab projects and being Hunt  paid his dues going through his suspension & staying out of trouble it is not out of the question  IF Hunt  apologizes with hat in hand. That being said I thought  that bridge had been burnt from both ends. Highly doubtful IMO

I’d love him back. Only guy Reid ever truly ran the ball with. May have another Super Bowl had he not decided to be a clown.

That's what's unfortunate when thinking about Hunt. The 2017 draft for the Chiefs would have been pretty historic had he remained. Mahomes and Hunt, those two players alone would have made it so.

It sounds strange but we ran the ball more times for more yards last year than we did the year Hunt won the rushing title.

If the chiefs brass are willing to put the past behind them I think they should go get hunt. He changes this offense and with teams playing two deep shell we need a back that can do everything. Block catch run and short yardage.
Only issue is if Reid uses him.
His presence alone in the backfield may alter how defenses approach us.
my thoughts anyways.

That's interesting, I didn't know that.

After looking at the stats that's true, but Hunt was gaining more yards per rush by himself vs the combo of backs we used in 21. His runs, from what I remember where much more punishing to the other team, both physically and mentally.

I agree. I was surprised by that. Hunt is a stud.

Hunt presented the threat of the run. He presented a threat in the passing game. He was a tremendous blocker. No one respects the run game now: obviously.

Exactly. Hunt was a full-time back that stayed on the field and defense's had to acknowledge his presence.

He was a solid rusher and above average receiver + blocker. I think that's the ideal prototype to find a RB for this offense. Specialists that excel in any of those areas are always nice but a solid threat in both the run and the pass game (both as a receiver and a blocker) enables the offense to reach new heights.
