Crow's Keys To The Game - NE v KC

Recommended Posts

Keys to the game.

1. Dwayne Bowe vs. Derrelle Revis

In 2011, when Revis was with the Jets, Bowe beat Revis in man coverage 10/19 times and ended up with 6 catches for 69 yards. Bowe needs to have at least a similar effort against Revis to help awaken the Kansas City passing attack.

2. Chiefs Interior Offensive Line vs. Vince Wilfork.

Let's be honest, Wilfork isn't what he used to be, but he's still a force. KC's interior line needs to handle Wilfork in one-on-one matchups so that other lineman can get into space and put blocks on the Patriots active linebackers. KC needs to run the ball well to win this game, and it all starts with controlling the big fella.

3. Travis Kelce vs. NE Linebackers.

Travis Kelce is athletic enough to beat the bigger linebackers NE has on the outside (Collins and Hightower). The Chiefs need to get the ball in his hands early and often in order to force New England to match up with Mayo or McCourty. This will open up the interior run game or the deep ball.

4. Dontari Poe vs. New England Interior Offensive Line

The best pressure on a QB is always up the middle. Poe needs to wreak havoc on the atrocity that is New Englands interior line. Force Brady to slide towards KC's outstanding OLBs and rattle him. Brady has looked human this year for the first time in a while, much because his line can't block, KC has to take advantage of it with pressure.

5. Kansas City Linebackers vs. Rob Gronkowski.

The Patriots passing game is rather anemic without Gronkowski ripping off chunks of yardage. If the Chiefs' linebackers can contain Gronk, then Brady has to throw the ball to a below average set of receivers.

6. Make Tom Brady throw the football all night.

If you can take away the Patriots running game and balance, forcing the Patriots to pass all night, then the odds are very much in your favor for winning. Brady's stat lines are very pedestrian historically if he throws the ball 40-50 times. With an offensive line susceptible to pressure, Hali and Houston could have a field day.

7. Defense vs. Patriots Quick Set Offense

The Chiefs' defense needs to be ready and waiting when they give up a first down for the Patriots' quick set offense. Brady and Belichek love to go to this to get a defense on their heals and keep them there, especially when their offense isn't creating mismatches and clicking along.

So since #1 won't happen all night...what's your next best #1?

Not really a ratings system, more to just offset the points of emphasis. I don't say never, but its very important that Bowe forces coverage over the top by McCourty else the rest of the receivers will have a much harder time finding space. Bowe doesn't have to get a bunch of catches to do this.
