Free Agents Still Available

Recommended Posts

I like this guy.

Akiem Hicks, DL

Kansas City may also want to improve its depth on the interior of its defensive line. Chris Jones is a dominant player, and Derrick Nnadi is a solid starter. But the Chiefs could still improve the unit by bringing in one of the best available free agents still on the market.

Akiem Hicks, a 10-year NFL veteran, could be a potent addition to Kansas City’s defensive line for 2022. The 32-year-old spent the past six seasons with the Chicago Bears, recording 247 tackles and 31 sacks in 77 games over that time.

An ankle injury limited Hicks to nine games in 2021, but he played well when he was on the field. If he can bounce back and stay healthy for most of 2022, he could return to producing at the level he did from 2016-18, when he started every game for Chicago.

If Hicks is looking for more money than the Chiefs are willing to offer, then they may want to go a more affordable route to improve their depth on the defensive line. But the longer Hicks stays available, perhaps the lower his cost could become. Kansas City should keep a close eye on his market.

Funny they still list Ingram with the Steelers!

Michel just signed with the Dolphins...we don't need LB or OL so i would go after Clowney and Hicks (assuming that Ingram is already coming back)

Hicks could be a decent option but I'm also curious about how the youngsters will do at DT.

What youngsters at DT?  Saunders ad Wharton or about the only backups that the Chiefs can rely on and neither has a history of being consistent pass rushers.  Maybe Saunders will see the light, but I'm not counting on it.

If the plan is to get Ingram, I would not be interested in Clowney at all. For me it would be Clowney or Ingram.  I would not want two old rentals with a third old DE being released next year. The rook and Danna are young.

Just looking at sacks and snaps, Ingram is not high on the list. If I could get Clowney for a year and start him opposite Karloftis, that would be the best you could do with these options.

  Snaps Sacks per
Danna 534 3 178
Clark 659 4.5 146
Ingram 346 1 346
Clowney 677 9 75

There's Nnadi and Stallworth as well even though they are primarily run stoppers. With a rotation of 5 may be we add a 6th guy to the mix but there wouldn't be enough snaps to go around to create some consistency.

The issue is that none of the "youngsters" get consistent pressure on the QB.  Jones is the only interior lineman with pass rush abilities.  There was hope for Saunders, but he's shown nothing so far. Don't know about Stallworth.  If Ingram comes back, he might play opposite Clark on obvious passing downs and move Karlaftis inside next to Jones.

I really think we need another starting caliber DT.  Guessing Ingram is about 90% chance he resigns and YES you can never have to many pass rushers but I feel a starting DT should be our Top priority before the season starts

I’d like to see Hicks or Suh brought in. Either one would compliment Jones nicely.
Saunders is hurt too much.
Nnadi is a JAG.
Stallworth is depth.
Wharton is a situational DT

I think Saunders would be the odd man out

You can't compare a guy playing nose to guys lining up at 3 tech.  They're asked to do different thinks and very few NTs historically got a lot of pressure.   System plays a big part as well.

Good points. I would like to see Houston back. Maybe KC will ad two guys?

Houston is in the same boat as Ingram was for us. They will have right to offer more with the tag they gave him.
