I hope Beuchelle beats out Henne. KC protected him often last season.

I would to, but it isn't going to happen.  Henne carries $3.265MM in dead cap if they cut him.  I guess they could keep 3 QBs active, though.

Could they negotiate and pay the dead money over a couple of seasons?

They gave a weird contract to Hali to spread the money over multiple seasons. Not sure how that works but may be something similar could be done. However I don't see Henne out of the mix as 2 QBs would be way too risky.

Ross probably ends up on IR with phantom leg injury unless he blows everyone away at TC

I dont understand why I keep hearing this. He's medically cleared. The hardware in his spine is going to be there next year too. What is the point if stashing a guy who is actually healthy if he's not going to improve any while sitting?

Pretty much what teams do if a guy is not ready for the active roster and they think he will get plucked off the practice squad.

I am anxious to see how a lot of these battles go. I do know only 4 teams cleared him medically. Does that mean he isn’t 100% healthy? We will have to wait and see.

It probably means teams don't want to take a chance just like they didn't last year with Smith.  One would think that with Ross's talent, any team would gamble a seventh for the possibility of a future starter.  If Ross never plays a down in the NFL it was still worth the try IMHO.

Going on the IR allows more time to test his spine,  his foot to completely heal, get back into game shape, learn the playbook, and doesn't waste a roster spot on a guy who isn't ready yet while keeping him on the team.  Like I said before unless he blows everyone away in TC.

I think he can still be in the facilities while on the PUP list?

Thus still getting mental reps and learning the offense and working out

May be he's not 100% yet or not ready for the full NFL action? I don't think IR or PUP helps the progression though, they could learn stuff but probably at a much slower pace.

Good report on Justin Watson.  Has speed and Mahomes likes him.  Probably no way he makes the 53 unless he's great at ST, but a PS candidate who could replace Hardman next year.  6'3" and 215 lb. with speed.

Justyn Ross wasn't the only Justin turning heads

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Everyone knows about Justyn Ross’ standout one-handed catch by now, but he’s not the only Justin impressing out of the receiver group. Asked to name someone who has impressed out of the new crop of receivers, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes named reserve/future signing Justin Watson. A former fifth-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of the University of Pennsylvania in the 2018 NFL draft, Watson has caught his new quarterbacks’ attention.

“Watson has been a pleasant surprise,” Mahomes said. “That dude can roll. I remember he came down to Texas and I threw with him the first day. I called (Brett) Veach and I was like, “Wait, how fast is this guy?” Because he was running so fast that I was late on my throws. So he’s got out here these first two days and had two great days.”

Watson set the Ivy League record for most receiving yards in conference play at Penn. In the NFL, Watson has just 23 career catches for 258 yards and two touchdowns over four seasons with the Bucs. He is coming off of a knee injury, but based on Mahomes’ comments, it’d seem like he is fully recovered.

“When we have reps like this where we are rotating a lot of different receivers in, you get to see guys step up and make plays,” Mahomes said. “Today, (Justin Watson) made a big play in the corner of the endzone. It is important for these guys to let them have chances and when they get their chances they’re going to go out there and try to make the most of them.”

These roster predictions are very solid and deep. Pass rush and safety are the only fingers crossed for me. More pass rush.  I think WR is in good shape. Oline, CB and DT are tight. RB is very deep. I like Beuchelle if I spelled it right, but it’s hard to imagine that Andy has a #2 with no NFL starts.

It looks like about 11 rookies and around 6 FAs make the final 53 this season.  Isn't that a high number for a championship quality team?  It will be interesting to see how the staff gets them in sync and playing together.

Not really

Those players will be invaluable imo if they get reps and coached up right.
