If so that means he could come back later season? too much talent just to sit a year

IR is to keep him protected from being poached by another team.  The Chiefs seem to use it every year.  Ross probably won't make the 53 so the Chiefs want to stash him until he's 100%.  Makes sense.

IR to protect him (and because he truly is not healthy), but he hopefully develops and makes the active roster next year. If we have injuries he might make an appearance this year, but not without. The top 4 are set. You may see Gordon slip in at 5, but 6 is a STs contributor. Preferably, 5 and 6, but Gordon has enough proven upside to make an exception. I doubt a UDFA struggling with injuries makes it with this depth.

This. They will stash him at IR and any time he gets later in the season will just be "recovery" before he comes to the lineup in 2023. Doubt he'll be worth a late season addition to the roster either, he had a very limited time with the team to actually get used to the playbook and Mahomes.

As mentioned in the above tweet, Reid noted the injury did not occur as Ross participated in the first two weeks of organized team activities (OTAs).

“It was a little bit off of the surgery he had before — it wasn’t functioning quite the way [he wanted],” said Reid. “It was bothering him. It wasn’t working quite the way he wanted it, so they went in and re-did it — and we’re hoping this works out well.”

For all the buzz connected to Ross — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had said Ross could become the “greatest free agent ever” after registering more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns in 38 college games — it did not translate during my looks in OTAs.

During the draft process, only four teams cleared Ross medically — and the Chiefs were one of them. Now Ross and Kansas City have hit the reset button, and Reid added there is no timetable on the wide receiver.

“It is going to take time,” said Reid. “It’s going to take time.”

Does anyone know what the limits are on a player on IR?  Can he attend practices or sit in on meetings?  Just wondering if Ross can gain anything while on the list.

They can practice with the team to determine their health status but not sure about the extent of activities they can participate in. However I doubt Ross will be such a priority for the staff with so many new WRs on the team, I'm guessing all of those guys will need special treatment as they adjust to the playbook and Mahomes.

Another way of having a WR learn, get healthy and hot the ground running next year. Will be nice because if JJ or others fo leave, we won't have to worry as much unless some don't pan out.

Chiefs placed WR Justyn Ross (foot) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Going on injured reserve before the season starts means Ross is out for the 2022 season. Ross's final season at Clemson was cut short because of a foot issue that required surgery. He then underwent a second surgery on the foot this summer before landing on the PUP list to start training camp. Ross reached 1,000 yards as a true freshman at Clemson, putting him on track to be a highly-drafted NFL prospect. Injuries have all but derailed his career, and he will now have to wait until 2023 at the earliest to take the field again.

NFL Network's Mike Garofolo reports Chiefs LT Orlando Brown will not report to training camp.

Garofolo added that Brown will not report for "some time." He has previously speculated that Brown could even be unavailable for Week 1. Kansas City placed the franchise tag on their left tackle this offseason, though Brown has yet to sign the tag. That means he can't be fined for his absence from camp as he technically isn't under contract. The Chiefs acquired Brown from Baltimore last offseason in an effort to turn around their depleted offensive line. That move, combined with a few others, worked out extremely well. Pro Football Focus ranked their line No. 5 in the NFL at the end of the 2021 season. Patrick Mahomes could find himself under pressure more often if Brown misses games early in the year.

O well. still hope he comes back 100% healthy next year and we got a 1st round talent in free agency. its a long shot but no risk.

be curious to see how the Chiefs handle this. I dont think Veach is going to fukaround tho. Brown may want to have a food sampler if he comes to KC.

Never understood the "sitting out TC" part. It's probably pointless for much older vets who probably only need conditioning but for a youngster who's looking for a big payday TC feels like a can't miss. Establish yourself as the guy, do the right training to avoid injuries during the contract year and actually spend time with the guys that will get you paid.

I feel the same way. I have a bad feeling about this whole thing and how it's going to play out.

I would let Christian and Thuney get the work. Brown is not the long term answer. His problem is slow and lazy feet. Setting feet in concrete and leaning and pushing when he starts getting beat. Players don’t tend to get faster with age.
It would be very funny if, by the time he signs the tag, he is only left with a RT spot. Or worse yet, swing tackle off the bench.
Way with it you need to find out what you have in other players. He won’t be here in 2023.

Brown needs a reality check and a new agent.  He's only hurting his future a bit more for each day he misses.

I see him eventually as a Raider. They have proven they will over pay. His no character approach to his life is a perfect fit.
