This seems to be an absolute win for the chiefs to me. I don’t remotely fear russel wilson as a qb. Kinda happy they are tied to him into his 42 year old season

agreed. I'm not scared of Wilson his time has passed or I hope it has, sometimes a player just needs new surroundings to reinvigorate his career. I think this move was just as much of a PR move from ownership as it was a real legit move to win a championship.   Without seeing the contact I have to think  it gives the Donks a 3 year and out scenario

That's a large contract for an older QB who IMO isn't necessarily elite.

He's certainly the best they've had since Peyton, but damn, that's a lot of money.

Russell Wilson receives new contract extension and it reeks of Broncos desperation

The Denver Broncos traded for former Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson back in March as many AFC teams made big, fancy offseason moves. The team that couldn’t find a quarterback for its life since the retirement of Peyton Manning gave up two first-round draft picks, two second-rounders, a fifth-rounder, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive tackle Shelby Harris and tight end Noah Fant to acquire the 33-year-old Wilson.

 

In a desperate attempt to keep up with the Joneses, The Broncos decided to extend Wilson on Thursday, just 11 days before the team’s season opener against the Seahawks.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Broncos and Wilson reached an agreement on a five-year, $245 million dollar contract extension which brings the total deal to seven years and $296 million. The team must have really been impressed with Wilson this preseason as their desperation for relevancy in a crowded AFC West continues.

Since 2016, the Broncos have been chasing the tails of AFC gold-standard Kansas City. The Broncos have lost an astonishing 13 in a row to the Chiefs. It’s clear that the franchise believes Wilson represents the team’s best chance to keep up with the Chiefs, Chargers and Raiders in the AFC West. Denver has not made the playoffs since the 2015 season.
