Titans coach Mike Vrabel said that Ryan Tannehill (ankle) is questionable and will be a game-time decision for Week 9 against the Chiefs.

Tannehill got back on the practice field today, enough to be called limited, but it sure didn't seem like he was as involved in the practice as he could have been. He did not participate in the stretch and came on to the field late. It will be a pain-tolerance issue for Week 9, but getting out on the practice field in any capacity gives him more of a chance than he had in Week 8. We'd consider Tannehill truly questionabl

On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs released a recently-signed wide receiver and signed a defensive back to their practice squad. Gone is Dazz Newsome — who had been signed earlier this week — and joining the team is safety Ugochukwu (Ugo) Amadi.

Amadi appeared in just two Titans games this season. The team waived him on Monday. Kansas City may have signed him in order to learn what they could about Tennessee before Sunday’s game against them. But Amadi also has enough experience that getting information about an upcoming opponent might have simply been a bonus.

Kansas City currently has a full complement of 53 players on the active roster and 16 on the practice squad. We estimate that the team has $4.0 million in cap space.

On Friday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid took the podium and provided some updates on the team's injury outlook heading into Sunday's game. He started by ruling out Fortson, but he added that new wide receiver acquisition Kadarius Toney (not on the injury report) would likely be good to go.

How Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes have evolved in 2022: Tyreek Hill's gone, but K.C.'s new-look offense is thriving

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/how-chiefs-patrick-mahomes-have-evolved-in-2022-tyreek-hill-s-gone-but-k-c-s-new-look-offense-is-thriving/ar-AA13Kd0f?cvid=64f3ad672ff7413c8e343b01dabd1cf8

Mahomes is getting the ball out faster, throwing it to targets closer to the line of scrimmage, and not utilizing play-action as often. None of those things are necessarily supposed to lead to more efficient quarterback play (especially when opposing defenses are daring your receivers to beat them by playing more man coverage, whereas last year they were determined not to let any receiver beat them and played a metric ton of zone), but that's exactly what's happened with Mahomes.

Year EPA/DB Time2Throw % < 2.5 Sec Play-Action % AirYds/Att Deep % Man % Zone %
2018 0.33 2.84 41.9% 29.0% 9.06 15.2% 27.0% 61.1%
2019 0.25 2.84 44.2% 30.7% 8.83 14.2% 40.8% 52.8%
2020 0.22 2.93 41.3% 30.0% 8.34 12.1% 30.7% 62.2%
2021 0.18 2.86 44.2% 26.7% 7.34 11.6% 25.0% 66.5%
2022 0.35 2.77 46.4% 20.9% 7.10 8.4% 40.2% 52.7%

This can be most obviously seen in Mahomes' numbers on intermediate throws. On passes that traveled between 5 and 15 yards in the air last season, Mahomes ranked 25th out of 31 qualifiers in EPA per dropback, according to Tru Media. He completed them at a 61.9% clip and averaged 7.2 yards per attempt on those throws. This season, he is completing the same throws 67% of the time, averaging 9.6 yards per attempt, and leads the NFL in EPA per dropback on those plays.

Lot of weird trends surrounding this week's game.

*Andy Reid is 1-8 lifetime in regular season games against the Titans. But Reid is 20-3 after a bye week.

*Patrick Mahomes is 0-2 against the Titans in the regular season.

*The Chiefs are 12.5 pt favorites against a team that has the same record and who themselves lead a division. Conversely, Chiefs are 0-3 against the spread at home.

*Last year the Chiefs held Derrick Henry to under 100 yards rushing and still lost by 24 points.

*Chiefs are #1 in 3rd down offense. Titans are #1 in 3rd down defense.

Tenn played nobody. KC has played a tough schedule. Those stats dont match up at all. Kc should score as usual. At least 30 points. Tenn will play from behind. Poor passing game even with Tannehill.

Chiefs 30 Tenn 16

There's an old saying "styles make fights". I think the Chiefs should win but I'm willing to admit some teams, even though they might not be as good, stylistically match up well against certain other teams. I think the Titans are that to the Chiefs.

Past yes. Current not so much. Buffalo torched them and KC will too. Buff & Kc are very similar on offense and defense.

I agree. I'll take the home town advantage and Andy's history after a bye week as the clinchers on that argument. Also, I have to take our kickers, Butker and Townsend as huge pluses for KC.  We can flip the field when necessary and cash in when we get even somewhat close on offense. The Titans don't have kickers like that. That allows Mahomes to take more chances on splash plays.

Indianapolis is another one of those teams. How'd that turn out? Yes the Chiefs made key mistakes but they also struggled throughout the game partly because their style matches up well. Chiefs had the lead late but couldn't stop a pathetic Colts team on that last drive? Like I said, Chiefs should win. They are by far the better team. If we had a 3 point lead late in the 4th quarter and the Titans had the ball would I be nervous? Yep.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a single practice squad elevation ahead of their Week 9 game against the Tennessee Titans on “Sunday Night Football.”

According to the NFL’s daily personnel notice, the Chiefs have used a standard elevation on WR Marcus Kemp. This is the second practice squad elevation this season for Kemp and it comes at a peculiar time for Kansas City.

Many thought that DT Danny Shelton might get the call-up against a tough rushing attack. Others thought that TE Jordan Franks would get the call-up with TE Jody Fortson ruled out. Instead, it’s the team’s special teams ace getting the opportunity to play in Week 9.

With the addition of Kadarius Toney at the NFL’s trade deadline, the Chiefs will now have seven receivers eligible to be made active and play on Sunday. Could a player like Skyy Moore or Justin Watson be made inactive to accommodate both Toney and Kemp?

Keep in mind, Kemp will only have one more standard elevation remaining after this week. He was the subject of our special teams film review in Week 7 and it’s easy to see why he’s getting called up when you look at the success he had a week ago. He recorded two total tackles against the 49ers on special teams.

This was the lone roster move from Kansas City on Saturday. That means the team did not activate OT Lucas Niang to the 53-man roster yet. They’ll have 21 days from this past Wednesday to activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.
