Projected 53-Man

Recommended Posts

Going out on a limb before the preseason action starts....

Quarterbacks

1. Alex Smith

2. Tyler Bray

3. Aaron Murray

Bubble: Chase Daniel v. Tyler Bray. If the Chiefs think Bray has potential, I think they keep him over a perennial backup in Daniel. If the potential isn't there, bye bye Bray and in with Daniel.

Running Backs

1. Jamaal Charles

2. Knile Davis

3. DeAnthony Thomas

Bubble: Charcandrick West or Cyrus Gray could make it if KC decides it isn't comfortable with Thomas as an actual running option.

Wide Receivers

1. Dwayne Bowe

2. Donnie Avery

3. AJ Jenkins

4. Junior Hemingway

5. Frankie Hammond Jr.

Bubble: Albert Wilson. If KC decides to carry 6 wideouts, he'll definitely be on the roster. He could make it over Hemingway or Hammond, depending on how KC sees things. Hammond has added value as a returner on special teams though. I'd cut Hemingway and keep Wilson, but I don't see KC doing it.

Tight Ends

1. Anthony Fasano

2. Travis Kelce

3. Richard Gordon

Bubble: Demetrius Harris isn't likely ready yet, but he could make it as the #3 option. I think Reid will put him on the PS again though and keep the sure option.

Offensive Line

1. Eric Fisher

2. Jeff Allen

3. Rodney Hudson

4. Zach Fulton

5. Donald Stephenson

6. David Harris

7. Eric Kush

8. Rishaw Johnson

9. Jeff Linkenbach

Bubble: Johnson, Linkenbach and J'Marcus Webb all will be looking for a spot. If KC only keeps 8 lineman like last season, I have a feeling Link is out.

Defensive Ends

1. Mike DeVito

2. Vance Walker

3. Allen Bailey

4. Mike Catapano

5. Jaye Howard

Nose Tackles

1. Dontari Poe

2. Kyle Love

Bubble: Jermelle Cudjo was somewhat solid in St. Louis and could be a guy that could supplant Howard or Love, whom I have at NT.

Outside Linebackers

1. Tamba Hali

2. Justin Houston

3. Dee Ford

4. Frank Zombo

5. Dezman Moses

Inside Linebackers

1. Derrick Johnson

2. Joe Mays

3. James-Michael Johnson

4. Josh Mauga

Bubble: Nico Johnson hasn't been very good since being drafted and the last update the depth chart has Mauga ahead of him, not to mention Mauga is better on special teams. I suspect Nico is gone, but you never know.

Cornerbacks

1. Marcus Cooper

2. Sean Smith

3. Ron Parker

4. Chris Owens

5. Phillip Gaines

Bubble: Sanders Commings and Vernon Kearney. Commings can't stay healthy and could go IR again, if KC keeps 6 corners that could leave room for Kearney.

Safeties

1. Eric Berry

2. Husain Abdullah

3. Jerron McMillian

4. Malcolm Bronson

5. Daniel Sorensen

Bubble: Sanders Commings and Steve Gregory. Commings has seen action at CB and FS, so who knows, but he's out and likely going to IR. Gregory is a veteran just brought in, so he'll push for that 5th safety spot.

Specialists

1. Dustin Colquitt

2. Ryan Succop

3. Thomas Gafford

Bubble: Cairo Santos could push Succop out of a job, but I find it hard to believe the Chiefs will take a rookie over a proven commodity just yet.

Practice Squad

1. Demetrius Harris - TE

2. Mark Harrison - WR

3. Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff - OT/G

4. Ben Gottschalk - OT/G/C

5. Charcandrick West - RB

6. Albert Wilson - WR

7. David Van Dyke - CB

8. Kona Schwenke - DL

Bubble: Josh Martin - DE/OLB, Brandon Jones - DB, Ryan McKee - OL

Cuts

Chase Daniel - QB

Nico Johnson - LB

J'Marcus Webb - OT

Alonzo Highsmith - LB
Dominique Hamilton - DL

Steve Gregory - S

Demarcus Van Dyke - CB

Joe McKnight - RB

Fred Williams - WR

Kyle Williams - WR

Jermelle Cudjo - DL

Darryl Surgent - WR

Weston Dressler - WR

Adam Schiltz - TE

Jerrell Jackson - WR

Justin Rogers - CB

Kevin Rutland - DB

Cairo Santos - K

Ricky Henry - OG

Ryan McKee - OT

Brandon Jones - DB
Otis Hudson - OG

Jordan Campbell - FB
Deon Anthony - WR

Cyrus Gray - RB

Vernon Kearney - DB

Josh Martin - DE/LB

Is Jenkins best #3 receiver right now?

We'll see, but that's what it's beginning to sound like.  "There's a fierce competition at WR!"  That would be great if it were between NFL caliber starting players.  It's Dwayne Bowe and not a lot else.  And Bowe would be best at WR2.

That WR group scares me. No upgrade whatsoever from last season...

Good job Crow. My only suggestion is that I think we go with four running backs including Thomas. He's just not a guy that can consistently run between the tackles in the NFL imo. Even in a pinch. I think Gray will make it.

I think Hemingway will be an upgrade just getting a chance to play. Jenkins, Avery, and now Thomas can open some space for bowe. I think internally and scheme wise we'll be better.

Agree Cali....

We have known commodities in Bowe and Avery.....We have real potential in Kelce.

Can Hemmingway continue to improve at the same rate as last year?  If he can, the WR mix may turn out to be pretty damn good.

It certainly looks like Charles, Davis and Thomas are going to be playmakers catching the ball out of the backfield.

After Pre-Season Game 1, here's my updates:

Quarterbacks: Bray and Murray look a long way behind Daniel. Could be a tough decision at this point to let Daniel go.

Running Backs: Really looks like Gray is going to be in and DAT will be a flex RB/WR

Wide Receivers: Albert Wilson looking more and more like he is in. At this point I'd slide Hemingway off the list.

Offensive Line: I might be premature in cutting McKee. At this point, he's in and Harris is out. Also, Jeff Linkenbach better look out too. Ricky Henry would be in over Link at this point.

Outside Linebacker: Josh Martin in and Dezman Moses out right now.

Cornerback: I have no sure-fire replacement, but Ron Parker is definitely down to bubble status.

I haven't changed anything else yet. Will do a complete update after Week 2 of pre-season.
