Wilson benched.

He limits the offense.  SP wants to see what he can do with Stidham, so he can evaluate their moves going forward.

The last thing you do with a poor investment is double down on it, it's better to cut their losses now, if possible, and begin the road to recovery now, instead of putting it off, IMO.

Russ isn't terrible, but he isn't a $250 MILLION QB either, so....................

What is the plan then?  Have him be the backup next year?  Seems like you can't trade him and you can't cut him.

Think they don't want to playback in case if injury which would guarantee him more money. I bet they eat the cap and cut him soon.

They have to cut him.  He can't really restructure meaningfully because of his signing bonus, and the Broncos will be on the hook for serious money in 2025, and if he were to get hurt these next two weeks it's a $37 MILLION in guarantee and no cut provision would kick in.

So if he is not the long-term answer, which he clearly is not, the only option is to cut him in the offseason and eat the loss for the next several years.  That's all they really do.

My GUESS is that Stidham will put up good numbers the next two weeks and demonstrate why they need to move on from Russ anyway.

Cutting him will cost 85 million the next 2 seasons. They have just 6 picks with no 2nd rounder this year. They will be hurting for awhile unless they really hit in the draft.

They will be hurting until 2026 - 2027.  But it's either that or you prologue the agony even longer.

His history does not support that guess, but I admire your optimism.  Time will tell.

Denver's passing game is next to nonexistent right now.  SP has limited Russ's mistakes by keeping it ultra conservative, but the result is no real air attack.

Though Stidham has a very small sample size, he did throw for 365 and 3 TDs against the 49ers defense last season under McDaniels shit-ass system for the Faiders.  And he looked really good in preseason against the Rams this year as well.

But only time will tell.  Either way, Russ is only averaging 204 yards passing per game this season, and that number is skewed upward by throwing so much in the 4th quarter because they don't score in Quarters 1-3.................................

the broncos will not draft high enough to get one of the better QB's and they don't have the draft capital to trade for a decent one so you can spin it however you would like to but your team is screwed because Payton wants to be the big bully

Denver shouldn't worry about trading up or trading for a QB, there are plenty of available veterans would would be OK until a legit QB comes along.  There isn't any major hurry.

First things first, get out of the bad contract SP inherited.

And he's not being a "bully".  Again, I REALLY like Russ, he's a good dude and he has taken all of the negativity from the past two seasons like a champ, hasn't said one negative word back.  But SP doesn't trust him one bit on the field.

Denver has NO midrange passing game.  Wilson is either checking to the RBs or tossing it deep, and his statline might be one of the most misleading in NFL history.  The Denver offense sucks, and isn't ALL Russ, but he definitely has a major contribution to it.

If you demand $250 MILLION, you had better be a serious gamechanger, and at this point Russ is anything but....

Well then your GM needs to be fired for engineering that trade in the first place

Yes he does.

SP's first move as the Denver HC was to sign Jarrett Stidham to a pretty large backup QB contract ($5 MILLION per year).  He was already hedging his Wilson bet before the season began...
