But there was an option in his contact that allows them to tag him after being paid for the incentives. They picked up the option, but it doesn't mean they will use the tag. The player makes the call, but the agent can influence the player to make a bad one. Orlando Brown is one example and it would seem that Jones last summer is another. Did Jones learn something? I’m not sure they use the tag on CJ if it comes to that unless they are just really close on a deal and they need to buy some extra time before FA starts or they have a trade in place. His tag number is around 32 million and I think they will want more flexibility going into FA unlike last year. Jones has one question to answer that will decide this do you still want 30 million or do you want a chance at making history. The opportunity to "3 Peat" is very compelling for the players. I like that Mahomes put "3 Peat" out there immediately and Jones has since jumped on that train. Agree that the top priority is to not fumble and fair catching on the five is pretty important as well, but did James have any meaningful returns? I remember seeing Tamrick Vanover win a couple of games with returns. Earlier, Nolen Smith (Super Gnat) made some great returns. None of them played well at regular positions.
