I really think we need to move up and get this massive LT from Penn State instead of a wide receiver. It’s not sexy but this guy is a pure pass protection specialist. Could protect Mahomes for the next decade.
Olu Fashanu - LT - Penn State - 6'6" - 312 pounds

He'll cost two 1st round picks probably

Would you be willing to do that?   I would.   I know losing next years first would stink but if this guy  can finally lock down that left side on a rookie 5 year deal then its worth it.  Premium position at a good price.

Ran a mock that it cost us 32, 1st 2025, and our original 3rd to move to 14th.  I would be far more comfortable trading that far up for a LT than a WR though.

14.  Draft Fashanu

64.  Ja'Lynn Polk

78.  Maason Smith - Cost one of the 5ths this year.

131. Brandon Coleman.

There will be an area of huge need next draft.  There always is.  Better to have a second tier LT and draft Hollywood's replacement next year for example.  The Chiefs won with below average LT play this season and while that's not a great plan, who's to say an OT drafted at #25 won't work out as well as one at #14?  I'm sticking with the philosophy of never trading two firsts except for a QB.

100% agree I mean only 15 of the 32 starters at LT  are first rnd choices that bodes well for finding a LT at 32 or down

I think we need LT desperately, but the fact is we may never have a chance at this quality of WRs at the end of the first and second. Double up. And let’s roll!

Okay to double up at WR, but not first and second rounds.  There's just too many other places to improve the roster, especially for the following year, to concentrate that much on one position.  Reid is notorious for bringing on rookie WRs slowly.  With Kelce, Rice, Hollywood, and one rookie early pick, what would the other one do?  First or second round plus maybe a fourth is as much as the Chiefs can afford at WR.

Ok. If you mean this years pick at 32 and next years first? Yeah I could see that for a franchise left tackle.
Then, cause it’s Veach, we swap some picks like this years extra 5th rounder for their 7th rounder with a draft choice in mind. Sometimes their scouting and planning makes them a better team at the end of day when they pull something like this. They have to get up to at least 15 to pull this off. Imo

Basing off reading about future draft for positions it looks a bit average for OT next year. WR looks good. D line is deep as heck and LB look very solid as does inside OL. We have to think about G replacement which could be next year. Center I have not read about anyone that would wow us.

So if anything we need to think about next year going in knowing we will draft end of the first round. Any LT worth a damn will be gone. Of course a lot can change with the players and in season of the college football, but I am sure Veach and company are looking as how it looks now. We will need to resign Creed for sure too.

This leaves us on a deep OT draft this year. One where it makes sense to get the OT now. Go after a WR too but knowing we have Hollywood and the ability to get one next year via draft or FA.

Some FA WR now, without knowing if extended or tagged are Cee Dee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Amon St. Brown, Diggs, Hollywood Brown, Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Hopkins, Chris Godwin, Amari Cooper, chase, Higgins, Brandin Cooks, Aiyuk, and many more. 2025 will be a lot of WR available it seems.

Best OT next year. Tristan Wirfs....would love to get this guy who had played the best RT and very high LT play when switched last year. Sewell, Slater, Darisaw will have their 5th year options picked up like a few of the WR above will too. Thing is OT is pretty thin next year in FA also.

There is so much more chess playing that Veach is doing being 2 steps ahead it is all just fun to speculate.

I really disagree. Kelce is coming up on retirement. In 2025, the only WR under contract is Rice and I think its fair to say we has question marks. WRs are super expensive in FA. This is the opportunity to go R1 and R2 at WR and be set for years to come. You just have to do it IMO unless you are completely convinced in someone at LT. This is a freakish class that gives someone drafting 32 a chance to get unusual quality at the position. You have the best QB in the league who suffered badly from a crap WR room.

Double your pleasure, double your fun, double WRs and Double Mint Gum. Let's roll.

The Chiefs won last year with a lesser WR room than they already have before this year's draft.  Hollywood, a quality top draft pick, and a more experienced Rice (when he's available) might not be ideal, but one new starting rookie WR is about all Reid can handle IMHO.  One side note is that the Chiefs PR department is pumping up Toney all of a sudden.  Why?  Have they sat him down and he's had a "come to Jesus" moment?  Are they trying a positive attitude in hopes that he'll finally use his talent and screw his head on right?  Curious.

Hollywood will do great. Rice will get his suspension and hopefully want to be a prove it guy after it. If we get anything from Toney and company it will be a plus. I think unless they have a, no shit we want this guy, type WR we should go OT. Also getting the guy next to CJ would be awesome. I think WR market next year will be saturated with FA and a draft that will be above average. Everyone will be getting their WR this year and next. The OT market just is not there next year or in the draft.

Just saw Amon Ra St. Brown got 4/120 with 77 guaranteed.  We would be wise to draft a couple wr's in the draft.  We have to develop some premium positions to manuever around Mahomes and Jones contract.   2 WR, OG, OT, DT should be a must in the draft.   Maybe they push the LT position for another year but the first 4 positions are getting paid a premium and we are thin at IDL talent.

Sewell was signed too for 4 years 112 million and 85 guaranteed.

Chase option picked up by the Bengals.

The deal, announced one day before the NFL draft, ensures Chase's fifth-year salary for the 2025 season will be fully guaranteed. The option year will carry an estimated value of $21.8 million, according to a projection from OverTheCap.com.

Pretty much agree.  But if the Chiefs are able to draft a quality WR on day one or day two every year, they might be able to avoid having to spend that $30M/yr.  Add one this year (plus a later second WR) and do the same to replace Hollywood next season.  I feel one disadvantage is that the WR assistant coach isn't as strong as at some other position groups.  Merritt can turn a golden retriever into a quality DB.  Not sure that applies to the WR room.  So it may take a longer time to get the new WRs up to speed.  Veach doesn't believe in overpaying WRs or CBs so gotta keep the pipeline flowing.

Saw that at another site.  Not buying that Chiefs are letting their target be known lol.

Yep.  Those multiple sources are probably a bunch of unknowing talking heads all jabbering to each other.  There's multiple reports on at least ten likely Chiefs' picks.

I'd be totally fine with Suamataia btw.  Seems like a Reid type of tackle and will be gone way before we pick in the 2nd.  I went back and watched a little bit more of him and he has a lot of potential.  May not be ready year 1 but with some work on technique you could have a really good left tackle that excels in pass pro and zone blocking.
