11 cut Commings to IR

S Sanders Commings underwent ankle surgery last month. We were wondering if he was a short-term IR candidate but apparently not. Now I wonder if LB Joe Mays, who had wrist surgery, is a short-term IR candidate.

These were not difficult choices. It will start to get harder from here on out. The biggest question is who they keep on the OL, and at RB. Gray and West may be trade bait. Both are very good runningbacks. LDT doesn't deserve to make this squad on skill alone at this point, but he will not likely stick on the practice squad, and he has too much talent to let go. The Chiefs may want to keep 6 WRs and 8 OL while Bowe and Stephenson serve their penalties. However, someone has to go when they return. Succop and Santos are battling it out. The loser may get rewarded by being picked up by Denver. Denver's idiot kicker has a problem with the drink, and won't be available for the first four games.

This may get sticky.

How many trades do you ever see made for third string RB?  You could package the two, along with Murray, Daniel and Bray and the entire OL and not get a box of rocks.

Seriously, you can find RB walking around on the street.  Why trade?

The Chiefs have nothing of value they can afford to trade.  The only possible trades are ones like Baldwin for Jenkins -- bust for bust.  Unless you want to trade a valuable piece like Tamba Hali or Eric Berry.  I don't.  And if you did you'll have a hard time finding a team who could fit them under the cap.

3 more gone.

Chiefs are down to the NFL mandated 75 players ahead of Tuesday afternoon's deadline. The Chiefs announced the following players have been released: T Ryan McKee, CB Kevin Rutland, CB Damond Smith.

McKee is the only minor surprise here. He was signed this offseason after taking some time off of football and saw a little bit of time with the second team offense at tackle. He did not play in last Saturday night's preseason game. You can cross him off the list of candidates for the Chiefs swing tackle job.
