Chiefs roster moves: Signed G Mike McGlynn, released C Ben Gottschalk

Recommended Posts

The struggles of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line has been a story line over the past few weeks so it's no shock that the team just signed veteran guardMike McGlynn. The Chiefs released center Ben Gottschalk as the corresponding move to keep the roster at 75 players.

McGlynn is the second offensive linemen signed this offseason who played with theIndianapolis Colts last season (Jeff Linkenbach being the other). McGlynn's connection to the Chiefs is being drafted by Andy Reid when he was with thePhiladelphia Eagles. That was in 2008 when the Eagles picked McGlynn in the fourth round. McGlynn spent three seasons in Philly before moving to Cincinnati for a season and then the Colts for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. McGlynn spent this offseason on the roster of the Washington Redskins, who released him this week.

McGlynn has 48 starts in his NFL career, including 30 over the last two seasons with the Colts. I don't know anything about McGlynn but you have to wonder if he's a candidate to play regularly with that many starts over the last two seasons.

The Chiefs offensive line is clearly influx. With Donald Stephenson suspended for the first month of the season, the Chiefs have tested starting left guard Jeff Allen at right tackle. That left Jeff Linkenbach and Ricky Henry competing for Allen's left guard position last week. On the right side, the Chiefs have rookie Zach Fulton penciled in as the starter.

I thought they might look at Julian Vandevelde, a recent cut and former Eagle.

I am still hoping they do. He is a solid lineman who played great at Iowa. He is also positive locker room guy. Can't hurt to give him a shot. When linemen come from Iowa they are NFL ready.

There is talk that KC will trade the Kicker that they decide to cut....

If it is Santos, with an easy contract to swallow it could play.

Succop might be appealing to a few teams...

Should be a fun weekend watching all the roster moves in KC.

Team still needs help at CB, OL and WR.
