Crow's Final 2015 First Round Mock w/Trades

Recommended Posts

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - QB Jameis Winston - Florida State
They have to worry about winning, and Winston gives them the best chance to do that.
2. Tennessee Titans - DL Leonard Williams - Southern California
I don't think the Titans will be as enamored with Mariota coming in to be a starter as they will be with Williams' insane potential to be a force on their defensive line. The cost for teams to move up to #2 is likely a little steep for Mariota, especially with the RG3 deal fresh in teams' minds.
3. New York Jets (trade w/JAX) - QB Marcus Mariota - Oregon
The Jets upgraded elsewhere, but they are staring down the barrel of having Geno Smith start and that isn't good. They pull off a small blockbuster to get a QB.
4. Oakland Raiders - WR Amari Cooper - Alabama
The Raiders might not historically be the NFL's best run franchise, but people fail to see just how good Reggie McKenzie drafts personnel. They won't go full stupid with this pick.
5. Washington Redskins - EDGE Dante Fowler, Jr. - Florida
The Redskins lost Brian Orakpo and have no real edge presence. They upgraded the DLine, so they have to get a disruptive presence behind them.
6. Jacksonville Jaguars (trade w/NYJ) - EDGE Shane Ray - Missouri
The Jags have been searching for a complete edge player for years, time to get one.
7. Chicago Bears - DL Danny Shelton - Washington
The Bears new 3-4 defense lacks pieces, so they better get crackin'. They added Pernell McPhee to play on the edge, and they have a disgruntled Jared Allen to presumably man the other, but they have nobody to really man the Nose.
8. Atlanta Falcons - EDGE Vic Beasley - Clemson
Are the Falcons really going to rely on Adrian Claiborn and Tyson Jackson as their starting edge rushers? One would hope not.
9. San Francisco 49ers (trade w/NYG) - WR Kevin White - West Virginia
The 49ers need offensive wepaons and the Giants have so many holes on the back end of their defense that they need to trade out of the 9 spot and get more picks.
10. St. Louis Rams - OL Brandon Scherff - Iowa
The Rams have holes everywhere along their O-Line after cutting Scott Wells, Jake Long, and letting Barksdale walk. They have to start somewhere.
11. New Orleans Saints (trade w/MIN) - EDGE Alvin Dupree - Kentucky
The Saints seem committed to fixing a terrible defense from a year ago and they need a reliable edge rusher opposite Galette, recently signed Spencer just won't cut it.
12. Cleveland Browns - EDGE Randy Gregory - Nebraska
Cleveland addressed immediate needs at WR with the signings of Bowe and Hartline, so they can focus on making the team better. Gregory opposite Kruger will be tough for teams to defend.
13. Minnesota Vikings (trade w/NO)- CB Trae Waynes - Michigan State
The Vikings have some interior line holes to address and might want insurance for Matt Kalil, but those are addressable later. Also, they traded for Mike Wallace so WR isn't a must any longer. Meanwhile, they brought in 36 year old Terance Newman to play opposite Xavier Rhodes, which isn't acceptable.
14. Miami Dolphins - WR DeVante Parker - Louisville
The Dolphins had a fire sale on receivers this year, but at least brought in Kenny Stills from New Orleans via trade. They need to add another weapon though.
15. New York Giants (trade w/SF) - SS Landon Collins - Alabama
Do the Giants having a starting safety on the roster? This team is hurting for DBs overall. Getting Collins is a nice consolation prize after trading back.
16. Houston Texans - CB Kevin Johnson - Wake Forest
The Texans have to think about the future, which leaves them a bit short at corner after 2015. Johnson is similar to current Texans starter Jonathan Joseph and can man the slot immediately.
17. San Diego Chargers - RB Melvin Gordon - Wisconsin
The Chargers need a RB, and while this class is deep, they can get the best one of the bunch and bolster a rushing attack that hasn't been the same since LT carried them to playoff victories.
18. Carolina Panthers (trade w/KC) - OL Andrus Peat - Stanford
The Panthers absolutely must find protection for Cam Newton in 2015 and they very much have their choice of tackles at this point, but they'll get nervous about them running a gauntlet to 25 and the Chiefs are always a willing trade down partner at the middle section of the draft.
19. Cleveland Browns - DT Malcolm Brown - Texas
The Browns run defense was offensive last season and a big reason was the falloff in play of Athyba Rubin with no rotational strength to offset it. They have to find a new nose tackle.
20. Philadelphia Eagles - CB Byron Jones - Connecticut
Chip Kelly might have went off the deep end this offseason (we'll have to see), but in the wake of it all he left the team with a bunch of holes to fill in the draft. The Eagles need help in the defensive backfield, even after their free agent signings because they cannot rely on Thurmond to be healthy all year.
21. Cincinnati Bengals - OL Cameron Erving - Florida State
The Bengals have a solid offensive line, but the one weak spot is center. This pick also covers for the possibility they want to draft Andrew Whitworth's replacement early.
22. Pittsburgh Steelers - CB Marcus Peters - Washington
Despite his problems, Peters won't be allowed to get away with arguing with coaches in Pittsburgh. He'd be going to a franchise that has taken in problem children in the past.
23. Dallas Cowboys (trade w/DET) - RB Todd Gurley - Georgia
After losing their start back to the rival Eagles in the offseason, the Cowboys must get that back to return to playoff form. Gurley would be the top back if not for the questions on when exactly he'll be ready to come back from his ACL rehab.
24. Arizona Cardinals - CB Eric Rowe - Utah
Losing Antonio Cromartie was a big deal for the Cards and its doubtful they want Jerraud Powers to be anything but a nickel.
25. Kansas City Chiefs (trade w/CAR) - WR Phillip Dorsett - Miami
The Chiefs need to continue to add playmakers at receiver and get a DeSean Jackson-like player here. While Green-Beckham could make some sense, he simply doesn't fit Alex Smith and the quick passing attack.
26. Baltimore Ravens - WR Dorial Green-Beckham - Missouri
The Ravens will have to have done thorough homework on Green-Beckham, but there is some talent there. Green-Beckham needs work in life and work on his route running, but he'd go to a good situation with Steve Smith Sr. as a mentor and a chuck-it-up-there type of QB in Joe Flacco.
27. Detroit Lions (trade w/DAL) - OL La'El Collins - Louisiana State
The Lions need a starting left guard in the worst way and Collins can step in and be a high-level player immediately.
28. Denver Broncos - OL Ereck Flowers - Miami
The Broncos need an upgrade at right tackle to keep Peyton Manning upright all year. Flowers looks like a perfect fit for the position.
29. Indianapolis Colts - DE Arik Armstead - Oregon
The Colts had to sign Kendall Langford just to make sure they had something at the position, but they need a better starter and at least better depth. Armstead can be rotational year one and take over from there.
30. Green Bay Packers - ILB Eric Kendricks - UCLA
The Packers absolutely must find a couple of inside linebackers and they have the opportunity to grab the most complete one in this draft in Kendricks. Maybe Clay Matthews can go back to doing what he does best, rush the passer.
31. New Orleans Saints (f/ SEA) - TE Maxx Williams - Minnesota
The Saints traded away Drew Brees' most reliable weapon, which is inexplicable. They need to get that intermediate passing weapon back.
32. New England Patriots - DT Eddie Goldman - Florida State
The Patriots need to add to their defensive line rotation after letting Wilfork go and Goldman has a similar skill set.

Summary of trades:
New York Jets trade 1(6), 2(37), 2016 2nd to the Jacksonville Jaguars for 1(3)
San Francisco 49ers trade 1(15), 2(46), 3(79) to the New York Giants for 1(9), 3(74)
New Orleans Saints trade 1(13), 3(78) to the Minnesota Vikings for 1(11), 4(110)
Carolina Panthers trade 1(25), 3(89), 2016 5th to the Kansas City Chiefs for 1(18)
Dallas Cowboys trade 1(27), 4(127), 2016 4th to the Detroit Lions for 1(23)
New Orleans Saints received 1(31) from Seattle Seahawks for TE Jimmy Graham

I agree with Jetlord. I don't view Dorsett as a good fit for the Chiefs, nor do I see him going that high. I would take La'El Collins before Dorsett. I would take Kendricks, Flowers, Goldman, and maybe even DGB before Dorsett!

Someone's going to be disappointed when they wake up tomorrow to realize they are a week off.

LOL, yeah just realized that before I logged back in. I was going to fix the post but you beat me to it haha. Ah well, shit happens. We'll find out next week!!! hahaha

If I wasn't "off" I wouldn't ever be "on,." ;)

That has to suck man. I'm sorry dude...

Good job with the mock. Very interesting ideas there. I like Dorsett better at #25 than #18.

The Chiefs do need help at WR, but with what they're paying Maclin, I just don't think they'll spend a first round pick on one.  I'm usually wrong.

Trading down would be great if they can get the Kendricks/McKinny or even better, Collins or Flowers and have another third.

Lance Zierlein moved Dorsett up to pick 20 to the Iggles in his latest mock. No, he's not a phenomenal "scout," but he gets alot of exposure to scouts. Not only do I think he's going round 1, he might not be there in a trade down.

Be glad your seminar wasn't today.

LOL, I'm actually at Disney with my turning 4 tomorrow daughter. My wife said to mea little while ago, "we can go next week instead." No way, last year I was at Disney during the draft and my wife kept telling me to get off the phone.
