Since Pittsburgh lost last night, if the Ravens beat the Broncos, I guess I'm going to have to root for them to win the AFC North except for when they play us. I would normally root for the Bengals because I feel like we could beat them in the playoffs, but if the Bengals make it, I feel the Ravens would win the wildcard. And quite possibly the Steelers. I want them all to lose anti-when they are playing each other. And for us to win so much that it doesn't matter.

I chose Packers over Seahawks because I don't want an as motivated Green Bay team playing against us on Monday Night Football. I want an all is rosy Packers team. I also feel that if they win, that means they employed a good gameplan against a good to great defense with an offense that is designed to run and take what it gets passing and that would be a similar blueprint to playing us. If Green Bay loses using that strategy, they might change it up against us more. There will obviously be similarities and differences regardless, but if I'm choosing, I'm hoping a win placates them and gives us a glimpse at their gameplan (that they hope and feel will be good enough against us) because Seattle and Kansas City are similar teams.

Picking the Packers over Dumb ass Pete Carroll is just sound judgement on your part. No further explanation is needed. :D

w

I went to USC, so forgive my hesitation. Wanted to be nice. I'm not a Pete Carroll fan otherwise, though I did root for them to beat Denver. I know, I know, AFC West to represent. But I just can't stand the hyperbole of the genuinely great Manning. I wanted him to win the same number of rings as Favre. He doesn't call all his own plays! (Emphasis on "all" as Aaron Rodgers said that all quarterbacks do some but not near a majority.). He makes players better but he wasn't playing with scrubs. It isn't always has defense that loses the game for him.

I haven't had time to add it up yet, but a lot of things went over this weekend except for the big one. All that really matters is the big one, but the wildcard contenders lost. Miami, San Diego, Baltimore, all lost. That goes well for us. I think we need to root for the Steelers to win the division and then take down the Bengals.

Notes:

Ravens over Bengals - Even teams, even threats, root for team with the worse record (Ravens). Also, root for home team (Ravens), otherwise, road team (Bengals) would have this game and their home game to win. Home teams winning means a split, an important loss. Alternate consideration: We don't want the Bengals to figure out a weakness that the Ravens exploit and fix it before we play them next week. A Ravens win could do that. Two losses in a row is unlikely for them and we want to beat them next, so a win might placate them into thinking 3-0 is rosy. On the other hand, it could spiral them, too.

Dolphins over Bills - Bills seem better, but neither team are winning the division, so either losing would be good. I really want the Dolphins out of contention for the WC spot, too. But we have to have patience and win our games.

Colts over Titans - Colts likely win the division, so we want Tennessee not to challenge, otherwise, we'd want the Colts to lose. The Colts bad start also makes the division important, but their division not being very good also makes them a #1/2 seed threat if we start winning to contend with them.

We need three ties! ;)

Thoughts?

  • 4 weeks later...

Don't think I will continue doing this thread, but let's go Vikings over the Raiders, Eagles over Dolphins, Browns over Steelers, Jaguars over Ravens, Bengals over Texans, and, of course, Chiefs over Broncos. We have a good chance at three of the six and a possibility for five.

It comes down to one thing. The Chiefs have to win. They need at least 6, and probably 7 wins in the second half of the season. What other teams do can affect whether the Chiefs get in, but not nearly as much as what the Chiefs do.

As weird as it sounds the Chiefs control their own destiny at 3-5. If they come out ready to play like in London they have a shot against Denver only because it's due time for a win against them.
